Injustice: Gods Among Us; New Game by NetherRealm Studios

Y’know, people are getting too carried away with all this “Too many characters from Batman!” talk. If a character is cool and would have an interesting playstyle and isn’t like the rest of the characters, then who gives a crap where he’s from?

Like Poison Ivy, Mr.Freeze, and Clayface. I’d take Freeze over all frost characters because of 1) his guns are cool looking, 2) his voice is awesome 3) his head is in a fishbowl. Ivy could have vines, and plants, and trees and all kinds of stuff on the field and coming up from the ground. And Clayface… the possibilities are boundless with him and his shape changing. He could be like Necro from SF3:3s.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Still hoping to see some Ra’s Al Ghul (despite how improbable his inclusion would be).

I get were you are coming from, but as a fan of the universe as a whole I think going with only batman characters sells dc short. Batman is going to have a huge presence, so its fans will be happy in the end. Use this opportunity to give some exposure to some other characters.

All of those characters you mentioned all have people who could provide those gamestyles for them. Though you’ve already mentioned why you prefer freeze (fair enough, though to be fair we have no idea what voice actor they would use) adding someone like cold would really make the flash fans happy, not to mention the other ice characters, most of which are more versatile than freeze with the powers.

Ivy’s powers could be covered by swamp thing, and clayface could be covered by metamorpho or plastic man. It’s not that the characters are bad (they are indeed awesome, i personally am a fan of all of them), its just that imo there are a ton of characters that could also be used that could help this game cover the whole dc universe aside from just gotham and friends.

Ivy all the way!

Yeah, I also think that Ivy has much better chances to get into the game instead of Swamp Thing.
Yes, it may be unfortunate to have way too many Batman characters, but then again… Batman covers a huge part of the DC comics, just the way the Green Lantern comics do.
Besides that Poison Ivy would rather make it in, because it looks like NRS like to have a good bunch of female characters in their fighting game(s). And that’s not a bad thing at all, for most of the people. Unfortunately I’m one of the guys, who never plays female characters, but I already decided to main Nightwing (or Red Hood, if he makes it in), so I’m fine with every single upcoming character.

Even though, I would really like to see these two guys in the game, because they’re actually a part of the new DC Universe now and DC will be trying to push their recent 52 comics, so wanting to have characters from Stormwatch (prior Authority from Wildstorm) would make a lot of sense!

I’m talking about Apollo and Midnighter.

A 24 man / woman roster I would like to see in the game in the first build:

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Nightwing, Cyborg, Solomon Grundy, Harley Quinn
These 8 characters are already a given, so 16 character slots remain.

Joker and** Lex Luthor** will be in the game for sure. It’s Lex Luthor in the trailer for sure, who is being attacked by Superman. I personally don’t have any doubt about it, even though we don’t see his full head, but he looks bold and it looks like he is wearing a green / purple suit.

In the trailer Flash is being attacked by someone who seems to be using freeze-rays. While it could be Mr. Freeze with his freeze-guny, the chances are higher that we will be seeing Captain Cold in the game. In the trailer we see the heroes mainly fight against villains from their own rogue-galleries (Superman + Luthor / Batman + Grundy), so it could be a fight between the Flash and Captain Cold.

11 / 24 characters covered.
Aquaman will be in the game for sure. DC should be trying to support him by now, especially since many people enjoy his on-going. He may not be the most interesting character powerset-wise, but his current on-going is better than the on-going Superman book and that is actually a huge deal.
Expect to see a Green Lantern as well, probably Hal Jordan, because of the upcoming Green Lantern movie, which should actually feature Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan again.

13/24 characters covered and now the guessing begins for me. I would like to see these 11 additional characters:
Apollo, Midnighter, Lobo, Martian Manhunter, Poison Ivy, Plastic Man (or Clayface instead of him), Catwoman, Green Arrow, Captain Marvel (or Black Adam instead), Zatanna, Scarecrow.

And then they can add additional characters via DLC (which I don’t like at all, since a fighting game should not offer DLC characters in my opinion, but still … if they do it, and they will:
Booster Gold, Animal Man, Firestorm,** Vixen**, Hawkgirl and so on, the possibilities are endless. But I highly doubt that we will see that many well known characters as written above, since they said they would like to concentrate on not so well known characters as well, so we could see Mary Marvel instead of Captain Marvel!

Please, stop talking about Mortal Kombat like you know anything about Mortal Kombat.

Ivy is NOT just a batman character anymore! She’s with the BOP now and they all over the place with their story, Batman never makes an appearence. So stop with all this Gotham BS, you may be able to make that case with Clayface but not Ivy.

I think DC has a chance to show Ivy in a different light and how much she has developed over the old crazy plant lady crap. I’m against this agenda of excluding awesome characters just because the other character never met batman. Screw that.

By all means have Vixen, have Plastic man, have diversity but not JUST to have it. Character hipsters annoy me.

Ivy being in BOP for a about a year doesn’t wipe out over 50 years of being associated with Batman, Gotham and related characters. She ain’t there yet.

I need Bane. Not a DC fan but I would play if Bane gets in just to get at the many Batman lovers. I have pre-planned phrases of what to say when I beat a batman lol

BOP is at it’s base a batman family concept anyways.

If Ivy showed up I wouldn’t be angry, but I’m not recommending these characters just to be different from Batman, i’m recommending them because this game covers the dc universe and they are characters that would show the full wealth of the dc universe. It’s not a matter of being a hipster, its not like i dislike batman for being popular or whatever, 2 of my top five favourite heroes are batman characters. Frankly I’m offended at the implication that the only reason a person would choose a character over someone like Ivy is that they want to avoid the popular choice instead of you know, liking the characters.

I’ve been avoiding saying this to avoid offending the fans of the bat characters, but frankly the characters i’ve brought up are just more important to the dc universe than the bat characters. Swamp thing was huge in the 80’s, has a well received solo series, is a linchpin of an entire section of the dc universe and (i expect disagreement here, but that comes with opinion) is imo a better character than ivy. Captain Cold is more relevant in flash comics than freeze is to batman comics etc. These characters are good characters, and so are the batman characters, but honestly the only reason the batman characters are a option over these other characters are there relation to Batman, remove that they haven’t done much outside of it (yet, in a couple of years my view on this may change).

I’m taking the stance that it’s merely a coincidence that some of the cooler, popular, and more versatile villians that would translate well to a fighting game come from the Batman series. Ivy and the plant shit would be cool. There just aren’t many characters that do shit with vines and trees and stuff. Clayface too (although you could run that with Plastic Man). But I want Clayface because he’s a villian. And it’s just not simple to body him like a punch to the face would to joker and harley.

Also, I’m not a big fan of diverstiy for the sake of diversity. I couldn’t name 4 villians of Green Arrow right now if you paid me to. The game needs more villians. We all got the heroes mapped out. Need more baddasses.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

I want Zod. But I know his powers are too similar to Superman. I want Vandal Savage but what exactly can we expect him to do in this game?

No lie. I’m picking whoever shows the most skin. It may distract my opponent and give me an opening. Yay for Ivy!

This is all opinion really. Swamp Thing isn’t necessarily important at all in the current DC universe; has an excellent book but that doesn’t make him critical to have at all. His story is pretty isolated from the rest of the universe so that claim is kinda ridiculous. CC being more important than Freeze is subjective because CC is more of a basic thug (cash, revenge, spite) who’s smart whereas Freeze has to be used more sparingly because he only acts because of his dead wife.

My main issue is really the fact that someone has to try to discredit everytime a poster brings up a batman villain to be in this game. They are aware there are similar characters but they don’t care, if there are that many people who want to play Batman villains then perhaps it’s best that they do get in to appeal to the most people.

That said I’m not against Swamp thing just the idea that he negates Ivy.

Not really, the red and the rot from animal man are connected with him, the entire concepts of elementals premiered there (red tornando is one of them actually) his stories provided the first appearance of constantine, helped establish the whole mystic area of dc, along with others. Since the combination of vertigo properties with dc’s main universe he is extremely connected. I know we disagree on cold already so I won’t get into that further, but I disagree there. And as I said people are already going to be getting a substantial bat presence, with the inclusion of batman, nightwing, harley and most likely Joker,so any bat fans who are interested in this type of thing will already get it. It would’t be a bad idea from dc to follow marvels lead and introduce people to some of their other properties. It seemed to work for marvel, and they were dealing with much more obscure characters. I’m only recommended characters that already have a large foot hold in the universe.

Going with somewhat more obscure characters gives a good ‘oh wow I didn’t think of that! cool!’ vibe, and also has some pontial for DC to get the characters some good cross-marketing and promotion.

Edit: A lot of these other characters can draw extra fans in too, I wasn’t gonna get UMvC3 for instance until I saw it had IF in it, even though he’s pretty obscure and another Xman or Avenger would have been more recognizable and would have made a lot of fans happy

I was iffy on umvc3 at first, but the majority of the marvel side were characters I wanted for the first 1, and firebrand was the one capcom character I wanted so I ended up getting it as well

That’s not a great example because Marvel had an agenda with putting Iron Fist in MVC3. They wanted to get him out there so they could have more people know him for when they debuted their terrible Spider-man team up show. It’s likely the same reason Nova showed up in that game because he’s in the same show. We already know that’s how Hawkeye got in.

If you want to draw in fans you should draw in as many as you can and the popular characters do that. Swamp thing is still very isolated to current goings on in the DC, he’s not more important than a iconic character like Ivy imo.

I never tried to discredit ST’s history but let’s not pretend he’s some big deal now in today’s comics. He has a good ongoing but is in no position for his fans to try to pull rank.

He has been back in the main continuity for about only a year due to being a member of the vertigo lineup before hand, since then he has been involved in the blackest night crossover and been heavily connected with animal man. During his last run in main continuity run he crossed over from the likes of batman to the likes of the new gods. Basically a character who consistently crossing over with others whenever he is part of the dcu, and is still continuing that tradition. Until the BOP Ivy was the much more isolated of the two, while in the last year any difference has been marginal.

Edit: actually the rank comment was a little rude on my part so I’m cutting it out

They need the big names which they’ll have already.

Past that it’s an opportunity to promote other characters that they want to have move up, or sell more books for, or promote a TV show for, or whatever.

I think Ivy is more likely than Swamp thing though, for slihgtly unrelated reasons.

You know even after all my arguing I still think Ivy is more likely as well, I just feel he deserves the spot more. I agree on everything you said.
