but yeah 150 would be a deal breaker and Bruna… you always had to use TC in the Alphas for many reasons even if it missed a lot in IV i still use it because I know they would change it if we asked and it’s part of Guy’s game.
I wrote up a big post similar to this but didn’t post because I’m not that great with guy and thought my logic might be less valid. I agree with everything you’re saying.
I don’t understand nerf to bushin flip’s damage as, others have already said, it’s trading high risk / high reward for high risk / low reward requiring tighter execution and probably just plain not as effective for that reason.
And hopefully U2’s damage isn’t nerfed too badly. 499 w/ focus did seem a bit high.
Red Rick Dias is done excited for Guy’s changes in SSF4A, yup. He gone and dancing in the streets to celebrate!
Anyway… on-topic, surely they’re aware how marginal Bushin Flip already is, and that lowering the damage with no other changes makes it just short of pointless? Hopefully that was just testing a worst-case-scenario change and seeing how they felt about it. I would like to see the Flip (both grab and elbow) become part of a mix-up game, one that isn’t countered for free by “press down.”
On the whole though I’m pleased they’re fixing hitbox issues, looking at making Hozanto worth using, making his overhead better, and so on. They may be worried about people on SRK freaking out over the test build, but I have the opposite reaction; I’m pleased. Regardless of which exact changes make it into the final build, this means they’re serious about trying to improve the game, fix characters that were just plain mis-implemented, and so on. That’s wonderful news and I for one welcome the era of fighting games receiving adjustments much like ongoing PC games have.
No kidding, Rick. I feel the exact same way. You should glance around the other forums; people are whining and protesting with torches and pitchforks (the Seth forum comes to mind). Here, the general consensus is, “if we don’t get our walk speed and the damage stays 120, then whatever. We have a bunch of other good stuff to make up for it.”
It’s not a final product, so they can only keep going from here. And besides, S-Kill used to be one of the main writers of SRK back in the day. He HAS to know to come looking here for input.
@red rick dias- i agree… like i’ve said before… if all they did was fix the hitbox on TC… i’d be perfectly happy with with that. any other kind of buff no matter how small… is just a bonus to me.
but i do agree… nerfing flip grab damage to 120 is a bit much. 150 sounds just right to me. i don’t have a problem with nerfing the damage in general… just not by that much.
overall though… i’m glad capcom is actually trying to make guy better, and that they’re aware he has problems. thank god my nightmare didn’t come true and we didn’t get another gen incident where guy would get nerfed for no apparent reason. he’s actually getting some decent and realisitic buffs in return for a nerf or 2. who knows what other buffs guy could get in 4 months time.
I would have been happy with all of Guy’s air moves to be returned to what they were. Flip elbow being blocked low is retarded. If they’re going to nerf the damage then make it so that people don’t have the option of blocking however they want. TC’s changes are cool though. The window for when you can cancel the f+mp into a move being larger would be cool too.
Yeah I’m with Rick too. So many ppl play a character for the strengths of that character’s options. Like the Cammy tkCS, and guile’s high damage and quick charge, ken’s overhead ex air tatsu. Ppl play these because they are powerful / easy, and so they will whine if they lose these options…
I picked Guy for several reasons - At first I was excited for Cody and Ibuki… so many ppl played them though, that I just couldn’t bring myself to play them as well. Then I played through the trials and liked guy’s tc and ff chain… they are really fun to pull off in game, and b/c they aren’t links, I can do them without an srk or ultra countering my combo.
In reality though if they buffed guy too much… I don’t think I’d enjoy playing him as much… Lower tier characters are tougher to play, and require more setups… but this makes them more enjoyable
I’m VERY glad to see the tc is getting fixed to connect on ducking opponents. I wouldn’t mind the cl.hk being adjusted a bit too, I don’t use it at all now b/c I don’t know when it will hit or wiff. I won’t quit if I don’t get it though.
awesome NEWS, I hope they release the update instead of releasing it at the same time as DLC, I’m guessing DLC would be out for console at least 2 months apart from Arcade.
Well, in my mind Target Combo’s modifications are a ‘bug fix’… true, it’s not technically a coding error but rather a mistake in hitbox layout, but it’s obvious it wasn’t supposed to work the way it currently does. To me that’s ‘free’, and not so much a buff as “oops, we goofed; it’s fixed now.” I am thankful for it, but I don’t count it as a buff because it shouldn’t have been like this to begin with.
Things like modifying Hozanto however are genuine buffs; those moves technically work as designed and behave correctly. Potential improvements to it are an out and out buff, and I’m thankful for those because the current Hozanto is extremely hard to use in roles it should work at; breaking Focus spam, getting past fireballs, and so on.
Making Ultra 2 have more range but do less damage is almost zero-sum balance (e.g. a nerf and buff in about equal measure), but I’d count it as a slight buff just because the current version has so little range that it’s extremely hard to use. Given Ultra 2s usually seem to be about adding a new option the character didn’t have before, or as troubleshooting for specific problems, I’m fine with the damage falling significantly; just having a 350ish damage grab with good range gives Guy potential he didn’t have before in that area. Cool stuff.
lol, kids like you that defend others looks like *** shit, how did he correct me? I just told him if he’s read my posts I refer to super…that’s it…don’t create drama cause your life doesn’t have any.
What they seriously need to fix is Guy’s super. I hate when I’m fighting Balrog and it misses mid attack and causes him to not finish the move completely… it upsets me greatly.
