Can’t wait to start maining Guy again in AE.I dropped him for Adon about 3 weeks ago because I wanted to learn a more fundamentals character and also to learn a character to play for console tournaments before the DLC comes out.Coming back to Guy briefly I realize how to use/space his cr.roundhouse alot better so I am glad I spent some time away from the character.
Guy has no real footsie game to speak of in SSFIV now though,the problem with his moves is that they look like good pokes,but then the hitboxes on them are garbage.Now that he will at least have st.forward,st.strong (its a good fast poke in SSFIV now but its hitbox is crap,AE is making it bigger) and cr.strong he will be able to poke at people. Right now his only ways of getting in are using his cr.roundhouse which is a real hard move to use against people who actually know the matchup and how to punish it.The other way of getting is just a well predicted jump in roundhouse or an elbow and that is not a solid tactic.
Also I am excited for the new combo possibilities he has now that far.st.strong is buffed.f.st.fierce into strong might combo on ALL characters now which is pretty dope.Imagine catching someone with a fierce counter poke and comboing into st.mp xx run slide? It also opens up more frame trap possibilities.
TC missing is finally fixed and hes still got everything else.Guy is gonna be a real beast,players who kept up to date with the character are gonna beast with him in AE now.

That’s simply not true about his pokes. He already has some good hitboxes on most of his pokes, improving them will just make him more beastly, which I don’t mind ofc.
St.MK has an excellent hitbox and beats pokes that hit low(er) pretty easily (shoto c.mk, rose c.mp, Gief OSing c.lk xx HG, etc), d.HK goes under a lot of shit (goes under Chun’s d.HK ffs, basically neutralizes all her best pokes)… c.MP OSed is excellent as a counter-poke, and st.HP is killer against chars with bigger hitboxes.
I’m glad they fixed st.MP, the hitbox on the tip seemed to be missing. It’s most noticable when you hit a CH c.MP on a crouching shoto for example, trying to connect a st.MP afterwards will cause it to miss. Also when fighting Abel and Ibuki it seems much harder to hit them (a blocked c.HP into st.MP… just misses). However it’s already an excellent poke inside its range due to its speed and cancellable properties.
I don’t even think some of the buffs he recieved were really necessary at all, other than fixing stuff that ‘didn’t work as you would normally expect’ (TC, st.HK , etc)
The lowdown about SSF4 Guy is that you pretty much need more skill/knowledge with the game/character to play him as effectively as certain other characters on higher level due to his highly specific/situational stuff. But once you’re over that, he’s great.
This might sound harsh, but most people here haven’t yet reached the level to know what he truly does and doesn’t need… some people are just too sure of themslefs when expressing opinions.
I respect your opinion TChamp your Guy is really good.I know st.mk is good at beating stuff out at the moment its just slow.Thats why they specifically said they are decreasing the startup and increasing its active frames.Now it will be easier to whiff punish on reaction with forward instead of predicting and punishing.That thing has a good hitbox now it just takes forever to come out.
Its true what you say about Cr.mp OS EX hozanto,I feel like I’m playing Gief lol,but seriously its amazing for getting people into the corner.I still dont really like st.hp because the hitbox isnt on the tip of his hand which is where you want a hitbox on a poke like that to be IMO.
St.mk > All other pokes (in AE it looks like).
@TChamp-this guy speaks the truth. guy’s normals are actually good. the fact that st. forward is going to be faster and recover quicker is great. it already stuffs a ton of shit with great range and is a great tool to keep people out. and i love using cr. strong as a whiff punisher while buffering into EX shoulder(especially if i’m near the corner and have an extra 2 stocks to FADC U1). although i’m displeased with cr. rh aesthetically speaking(i miss the alpha animation)… it’s a really good normal. as you said it goes under normals of other characters that are rather high, i abused the hell out of cr. rh against dudley’s because you know he’s gonna spam st. fierce.
i think people who say guy’s footsie game sucks are mainly focusing on the spacing/whiff punishing aspect of footsies too much. with guy’s new 3frame cr. short baiting counterhits with it in blockstrings by doing cr. short walk up cr. short is gonna be fantastic and yes this is a part the footsie game. now while his footsie game isn’t amazing do to somewhat average walkspeed…it’s still possible and still effective. i still haven’t seen any one else use cr. short as a whiff punisher… i encourage the other guy players on these boards to test it out on a cornered ryu that’s whiffing cr. forward due to your spacing and buffer it into EX shoulder and let me know what your results are.
now guy may not have an overall normal he can use in all of his matchups… but i think every one here knows by now that guy is highly character specific and everything he has is situational. it’s why there aren’t a lot of people who’ve taken the time to get good with him yet. not a lot of people feel like putting in that much time and effort to learn his situational stuff. where some one like ryu’s tactics will work against 90% of the cast without having to change them other than adapting to opponent’s playstyle, i feel like guy doesn’t really have something that’s you can abuse like a shoto cr. forward or rog cr. jab. every single one of guy’s moves has it’s place in VERY specific situations. example… anti airing with guy. cr. strong and cr. forward will work on some characters and be COMPLETELY ineffective against others. everything guy has must be used to be effective on top of being able to adapt to your opponent’s tactics and mindgames.
Very true last paragraph there.I dunno though I think every character should have at least one abusable poke that works across the board,this game is so footsie orientated you just need it.

So you can armor cancel a move the moment you absorb an attack right??.. So would it be possible to armor Cancel the armor on EX-Stop now??..Damn that give rise to a whole new bunch of opportunities with U2…
I really hope they did increase the throw range on it…but i think they might have just checked this out in the loketest since i dont see it being reported anywhere… imagine being able to consistently punish even well spaced Jaguar kicks and stuff like rufus galatctic tornado
I dont think you can absorb armour breaking moves but yea, ex run stop absorbs 3 hits as mentioned by capcom.
I also have a question, from the vid with kiryu vs adon where he anticipated RJ in the end and beat it with nj ex izuna…does that work with srks? cause you know people mash those in block strings.

Ex izuna has 3F invinc on startup… so it will grab anything unless it whiffs or if the opponent is throw invinc…
SRKs only have about 4f of invinc … so you should be able to grab them once they leave the ground…
Doesnt work on stuff like ex shoryu though… that has wayy to much invinc…
if srk has 4 frames inv. and izuna has 3, wont srk beat izuna in the 4th frame? Wish I had the game to try this
EX versions can only be grabbed when they are off the ground pretty much and unless the dude is mashing hardcore… no one is going to do that.
Does EX izuna work on all uppercuts?It works on Ryu for sure and Kens(excluding fierce).Does it work on Akuma,Sagat and Adon though?
yes sir. but you can still set up the neutral jump with ambiguous timing in order to bait out the reversal

in 2:30 of this particular video for example, i believe the guy player waited just a bit after run sliding before neutral jumping. so when the ryu player did a reversal srk, his invincibility frames ran out and he got izuna’d
of course, late srk is still viable. but it’s an interesting bait nonetheless
