Info on Changes to Guy in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade!

I’m talking about after receiving the info on Guy about TC fix… I mean if he misses at max range MP which they increased range on mp already I wouldn’t entirely mind, but It’s doubtful but until we get our hand out it no judgement made.

If you’re a Bushinryu Sensei, I’m calling myself an Imperial Bushinryu of the Southwest. =D

There is supposedly going to be another big announcement about AE in November. This could be new characters (which i’m confused about because if the game is done, wouldn’t they want to playtest them?) or confirm the DLC for consoles and possibly a date for it. I’m not sure what Ono meant that people are going to have to play SF4 completely different then they used to. I’ve heard no changes about the gameplay engine at all or characters getting new moves or a third Ultra.

My guess:
Elena FTW.

You haven’t played SF4 before, have you.

For all we know, we can get characters exclusively on consoles although I want the arcade version to be the exact same this time. I also hope we get really popular characters so less people will be picking guy lol

This ^^

I dont want to be using a bandwagon character. Ive always been that way.

Seriously, we’re talking about a freakin’ videogame here.
Nobody important will ever care if you played Ryu or did place second at a tournament in this crap. You’ll never be rejected by a beautiful and smart woman if you tell her that you picked Ken instead of Makoto. Or a future boss will never offer you a job because you won EVO.
Even wasting a thought about what somebody might think of you because you picked this char and not that one…

It’s going to happen if he becomes really better then he is right now. It’s only a positive thing if more people pick him up. It will help us all to get better or to learn new ways of playing him. More people will also know the match-up which will help us get better and solidify our game.

I don’t know about K1, but personally I don’t care either what others think, especially since I mained ryu in sf4 and beat most ryu players I’ve faced, however I care about Guy not being overused for personal reasons. It has nothing to do with what others think, I just personally would prefer it if Guy remains underused and unique. I like using a character that most people don’t. I find it more enjoyable and it gives me an edge when playing. Plus it’s fun figuring out the character for yourself instead of having hardcore pros like Daigo discovering every little thing lol

Another reason why I enjoy playing with Dan. He’s weak, underused, and fun.

I bet K1 feels the same way about Guy

Edit: @Shin Akuma, honestly, I think having Kiryu and Combofiend are more then enough to learn match ups and new things. We got enough good players in the Guy forum as well even though our forum might have the fewest members in the character forums lol.

Underused characters are really never played to their full potential which is why they tend to be lower tier IMO. Look at Gen during the end of Vanilla. Dudes like Yeb came on the scene with really good Gen’s and his potential started showing. There were a lot of Claw players back then so it was widely accepted that he was the worst of the bunch. I honestly think Mokoto has tons of potential and buffing her is just going to make her even better once someone starts playing her to her potential. Same with Guy.

As Albo said, its not that i care whether people think im a tier whore or not. The reason i dont like playing characters that a lot of people play is because i like being unique. Im like that with most things really. If everyone and their brother started playing Guy, i would probably drop him for Gen (who is currently my secondary).

Btw, i feel that youre dead on Albo when you said " personally i think makoto has tons of potential ". Anyone who doesnt know the Makoto match and plays a good Makoto, will get CRUSHED. Ive seen it happen many times. Im friends with Naleb and I watch him pound on people (good players included) regularly. Mak just needs to work a lot harder for her wins. Kinda like Guy

True but nothing beats in-game experience. I understand they are great players but it’s not them fighting your opponent it’s you. You can watch as many vids of Combofiend and Kiryu you want, but you can’t ever duplicate their matches. You’ve got to ask yourself also, how many opponents you face are actually competent in the Guy matchup? From my personal experience there’s not many. As much as I hate to admit this most of my victories stem from this. I know a wins a win, but I’d like to know that who I’m facing knows the match-up. I really believe this is why Ryu flourishes. Not just because of his superb set of moves but because of his usage. The numerous players that main him have this edge of winning as do people who face him. He’s used and played agaist so much that Ryu mains have no choice but to solidify their game. People who also face agaist him know this match-up more then any. I feel that if Guy was used this much we’d have no choice but to get better. You’ve got to remember also not all of us have the luxury of playing top players. Hell I don’t even have the luxury of playing SSFIV when I want. However, if their were more players that were competent with Guy and the match-up, their would be all around improvement in everyones game play.

Makoto really is that bad if you know her tricks and all the ways you can punish her. The well of shennanigans runs dry pretty damn fast.

Play Naleb a few more times, eventually he will never win anymore and just start avoiding you.

Yeah. Rule numero uno is that you can’t base your strategy on the hope and prayer that your opponent doesn’t know the match-up. Not to sound harsh toward anyone, but that’s an incredibly amateur way to think. I mean, it’s great when they don’t know how to fight your character, but in the end it all draws down to how much you know how to fight them, as opposed to how much they don’t know how to fight you.

Myself, I’m always going to main Guy. I’ve done it since Alpha 1 and I’ll continue to do it for every fighting game he’s in. His playstyle just really suits me that much. It isn’t exactly hopping on a bandwagon when you’re the one driving, after all.

Hey, you’re the one who brought up learning from others lol. Yea learning from yourself is the best, that’s why we don’t need a lot of top players to main Guy. I’ve won plenty of matches cause my opponent doesn’t know the match up just like I’ve lost plenty of matches from not knowing a few match ups. That’s the beast of the game. When you’re at a tourney, this will get you far.

It’s how luffy got far with rose in the beginning, aside from being a good player. I agree good players are hard to come by, not much we can do about that. Unlike ryu though, Guy players have to play well because of his weaknesses and issues in ssf4, granted most of them will be fixed in AE. When the time comes that a Guy player pulls an inthul, so to speak, others will be more focused to learn the match up.

I wouldn’t mind actually if Guy ended up like ssf4 fei long, where he’s solid and a few top players play him but most people still don’t pick him up. If he was very popular, 90% of the players picking him up would be scrubs anyways which you wouldn’t learn from ala ryu. We basically need more good players in the community, not just more players picking up X character. Quality > quantity.

@ Duck Strong:

notice i said "if you dont know the Makoto matchup " and " Ive seen him pound people "

I never said anything about him giving me trouble. I win about 75 - 80% of the time against him. None the less, hes a monster Koto player

Just thought I’d like to throw this in:

Even though people may not know the Guy match up, it isn’t that hard for them at some point to discover what it is that makes the tier list say the match is in their favor. For example, you may fight a Honda who doesn’t know the match up, but as soon as he learns when to use his headbutt, it just became a hell of a lot harder.

The only reason why people SHOULD be playing Guy is because they like the character. What does it matter how many OTHER people use the same one besides the fact that there would be larger player base to collect MORE knowledge of the character for everyone to use?

lol srk
