Info on Changes to Guy in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade!

Ex run now essentially gives him total fireball immunity, now including projectile ultras. Guile can sonic boom twice from long range runs, and follow up with a normal, and so can other characters. This is pretty great as he pretty much has enough armor now to get right up in someone’s face. If they make the mistake of trying to attack without armor break, he gets a free combo. He can also now use it to bait out armor breaks, and off the top of my head I can’t think of any armor breaks that aren’t punishable. HUGE buff.

cr.lk has always been better, true, and now it’s Guy’s fastest normal. He’s no longer got that extra “free” frame for opponents with three frame normals. Huge buff.

run/stop U2 is already great when used wisely (no opponent is going to block against guy’s run’s atm 'cause they’re afraid he’ll ultra, and if they do, run/stop x U2 already gave you a huge advantage, thus it’s good), especially now that we have some incentive to use run as a safe means to get close. Saying run/stop U2 with armor is gimmicky is like saying you’ve never been hit out of run stop. It adds another layer to his mixup, if you can get a read on your opponent you get a free ultra, effectively increasing U2’s use as a counter against a vast number of attacks, even if they hit. Huge buff.

actually blocking against guy’s U2 is the best option cause it’s +1 frames aka you can jump out of it with no probs. If the range is better now along with run xx stop armour, it’s gonna help much more to land it

The whole point is that if they’re blocking you’re at an advantage to apply pressure. Mix it up for the win.

well it all boils down to mind games in the end. I see too many players pressing buttons when they shouldn’t. Some forget the importance of blocking. Better to eat a throw or overhead then a huge combo…either way, Guy will shine in his mix ups. He will rushdown really well now

People seem to forget that TC provides pressure while the opponent is blocking. It essentially makes your block strings safe. And with runxxstop leaves you at an advantage to continue pressure. When you cant use this against a third of the cast, most of whom are good characters that you’ll likely run into, this hurts Guy’s game a lot. Now with a 3 frame normal, lp Hozanto being safer, mp having a better hitbox, and a better overhead, his pressure game is going to be a lot better and less frustrating.

Question. IIRC Shoryu type moves break armor on reversal only right? Well lets say after Bushin Chain into EX Hozanto, you run up with EX runxxstop. Would a wake up shoryu break the armor or absorb it? If you do this now, I’m not sure if reversal comes up. Basically what I’m getting at is, will certain characters be forced to guess on their wakeup now?

Yes, Shoryuken only broke armor if it was activated as a reversal, so normally EX Run absorbs a hit from a Shoryuken. On wake up and during run stop pressure, you can block reversal SRKs safely so long as you cancel your Run >> Stop fast enough. MP xx HP xx Run >> Stop is safe from reversal DP as long as you stop ASAP. Same goes w/EX Run on a shoto’s wakeup. EX Run is safe from a reversal srk so long as you stop soon enough.

yeah st.mp hits after st.hp from a distance against gouken…you can cancel st.mp into. mk run/slide, ex hozanto, or I think mk tatsu…

I think the Guy/gouken match is like 7-3 Guy…seriously…

What did they change to make it more safe? I think right now, its -2 on block, which is safe enough…did they change the spacing after blocking it or something?

Umm Mekkanic… the move is safe from everyone but anyone with a 2 frame move which means grapplers (Gief/Hawk) get a free grab on you. Which isn’t very good and well free ultra by that means as well. They probably made it -1 or even. IF they made it even I won’t have to worry about reversal U1 from Gief or Hawk either.

hmmm…if they made it even, I think Guy would be very hard to escape from…that change, along with a 3 frame cr. light kick…dude could do block strings all day on anyone that doesn’t have a 3 frame normal…except for the grapplers, of course…

Yeah, we’re pretty much awesome. Although I think that since we hold seniority over all of the newer players that will come in here,
we can set a good example for how people should act and behave in these parts.

3 frame cr.lk would become godlike… would be the perfect run stops followup…

And the inputs for perfect instant stop to lk would be easy cakes df,lk,lk,lk, lk -> link mp to wtver… should produce pefectly timed stop to 2 lks to a link’d mp every time… (not that some godly types can’t do this anyways… but…)

My petition for some thing to change would be make st.hk hit crouchers and force stand… :slight_smile: st.hk, link BC, xx special… has become so godlike for me… but I HATE it missing crouchers… you can’t even focus attack->dash->st.hk if the focus hits… unless there is justa frame in there I’m not hitting.

Close s.mp probably… and it makes sense… close s.mp-> run stop -> lk,lk, TC xx special… probably similar dmg to st.hk to BC… but works vs crouchers also. (Assuming they make TC not whiff vs some crouching hit boxes anymore)

Pretty sure it doesnt whiff on anyone crouching except maybe on max range st. mp would it whiff which… I wouldn’t be mad at that.

For a link combo it wouldn’t bug me… but a target combo? If the mp hits and you hit hp after… it should combo… or at least force block… but it whiffs entirely.

The game has gone gold so now we just wait for confirmation on the buffs we’ve heard. I don’t know if we’ll see any gameplay before mid december.
