Info on Changes to Guy in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade!

Eh it won’t hurt. EX Run should help out WAY more IMO. The standing MK buff should help out too. Plus, the MP xx HP target combo being fixed will be GREAT vs. Rog if that holds up. Hey and the new range on Standing MP isn’t bad either! =D

Making Ex Run follow ups as fast as normal run follow ups PLUS making Ex Run Slide go through fireballs seriously means that even Guile will have to think very hard before throwing a sonic boom. The fact that max distance Ex Run Slide is safe on block makes it a no brainer.

Ex Run follow ups being sped up also means:

  1. Ex Run> Slide is now a viable anti-air.
  2. Ex Run> Slide is now a viable wake up option against characters who like to use wake up cr.MKs on you (these are the characters whose wake up cr.MK will make Ex BSK whiff cough Juri cough Ryu).

I think they felt comfortable making Ex Run so good because Guy doesn’t really have any fast, riskless way of building meter. Still, gainst Guiles and Chunlis that I want to be cautious against, it seems like a good idea to start the round doing jab bushin flips and jump back whiff air throws. Ex Run>Slide has just become that damn good.

This. The other thing other people don’t realise is that low attacks are godly in this game because if you do a perfect block string with a jump attack into a low attack, the opponent WILL lose his autoguard if he tries to mash a reversal (since he stands up).

My only fear is that they sneaked in a frame nerf to go with the -1 frame start up buff (which I wouldn’t put pass them, because seriously, 3 frame start up +2/+5 would make Guy’s low short THE BEST LOW SHORT IN THE GAME). I don’t mind if they change it to +1/+5, but the +5 on hit absolutely must stay, so that cr.short> s.MP remains linkable.

For all its worth, I tried the AE build at this year’s SBO and cr.shortX3>target combo worked. Hopefully that was also the build with a 3 frame crouch short.

This. Already -2 + 3 frame normal will make it as good as Rufus sticking out a 4 frame light attack after a -1 galactic tornado. If they make Jab shoulder safe against SPDs, as reported, then it will be -1 at worse, which would make c.LK> Target combo> LP Shoulder * n the block string of choice with the option to add in run stops and run overheads.

Against characters whon qcb+P> Ultra 1 in the corner works, this would automatically make Ultra 1 the ultra of choice. A solid frame trap that leads to a meterless Ultra in the corner is just too good to pass up.

I’m too hype to play SSFIV Guy. The words “3 frame short!!!” keep running through my head.

Out of the characters in that Capcom Dev post, Guy is the one who ended up in better form as he is not that high level as Ryu. I guess they were inspired by his Alpha godly MK huh. Its a good thing, just like the overhead buff.

I just wanna know (since i’m not a Guy player, just an interested observer) what is his far s.MP that the post mentions? It is that same of Alpha games? The low, punch to the stomach, that is part of his “Final Fight chain” combo?

Guys stop, you’re making me day dream about all the possibilities. I’m still stunned with all these buffs. Ryu not being able to run away tatsu and the other nerfs makes me think Guy will be in favour of that match up. I wonder where he will end up in the tier list, hopefully not too high so people don’t whore him.

EX-run stops will any two hit - non armor break shoryu’s now! I’m so happy with his changes!

Maybe we should complain until AE releases so Capcom won’t come here and say, these guys are actually content with our changes…let’s fuck him up LOL

It’s a scary thought, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all of the buffs and fixes we’ve heard are in for the final release.

So I can’t find the frame data on his bushin flip x elbow drop, wondering now if linking that into c.lk is possible?

EX Run Stop - Absorb a hit. Ultra 2. Thank you good night. Though I still am a little worried about Bushin Flip Elbow still being ass. Make it +1 on block or an overhead and I’ll be happy with Guy’s changes.

If the Guy changes are true, he’s a LOT stronger now.

Imagine:

  1. No more whiffing target combos even when your opponent is crouching;

  2. It’s more difficult to zone him out with fireballs (doesn’t matter if they’re EX fireballs) if he can simply pass through with EX Run-> slide. And since regular run follow-up is the SAME as EX run follow-up now, it’s easy to hit fireballers back with a slide follow-up while they’re reeling from their fireball animation.

  3. c.LK being 3 frames makes it the ideal pressure starter now, instead of c.LP since it HITS LOW. Very ideal in ticking situations and frame trap situations. Most importantly, if s.MP’s hitbox “improved”, you can do c.LK from a reasonable distance, and STILL continue the pressure by linking into s.MP-> s.FP target combo. Guy’s pressure improved by several notches! Let’s just HOPE there’s not much proration from c.LK if you start combos with it…

  4. if EX run -> stop having armor is TRUE, you might be able to do usual target combo pressure (on block), into EX Run-> Stop, sucker in jab mashers, and then continue combo pressure string before their second jab even comes out for a painful corner combo. If they stand there and do nothing… do U2. And since the U2 range is apparently improved now… ;D

I’m a little excited for new Guy now. Still don’t like the nerfs on the Bushin Flip grab (if it’s true), but I might be able to manage. :smiley:

I’m not too worried about bushin flip. One of the guys who played AE loc test said there’s only a damage nerf, and it’s not as extreme as everyone initially thought.

Did it say “Far” standing medium punch has a better hitbox? Seems like it will be a better poke, but correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it close fierce part of TC that had whiffing problems? I’m not sure if this is like an “Updated” list of the previous one from location testers, or a separate list of they’re own? Anyway, I’m psych to see Guy getting some buffs, interested to see how the final product will end up, though.

Guy is like the most popular low tier character in super. If he’s actually near top of the list, I could imagine him being as popular as Balrog (second only to shotos).

Time will tell but Guy’s character and style make him really popular alone. Alex valle might even main him now.

…How many characters have a 3 frame normal? and how many of them have it for cr.lk? I only know of rog, bison…not sure who else.

Also, can people safe jump guy now if he has the 3f cr.lk?

The problem with the Target Combo was the hp wiffing, so…
capcom may buff the mp and correct the TC :slight_smile: sounds sexy

SSF4 doesn’t use a proration system based on attacks.
It uses damage scaling based on number of attacks not which attack was used.

@2) EX run can go through fireballs anyways…i dont know why everyone is so damn hyped about EX run/slide having projectile invincibility. thats kinda the purpose of EX run
s armor…to absorb hits…

@3) cr.lk should always be used over cr.lp anyways…

@4) i find EX run/stop U2 to still be very situational and highly gimmicky. this wont work very often during high level matches IMO

everyone needs to calm down regarding Guy’s “buffs”. seriously, everyone is acting like he can fly, got a rocket punch, and has a capt commando assist.
