Holy shit, I was thinking about this at pretty much the exact same time you posted it, heh. Actually, I was going to ask if there was a connection, but I guess you just confirmed it :karate:
Thanks for the correction.
I think Jack from Powerstone was influenced by Jack the Ripper, the famous murderer. In Jack’s ending in Powerstone 1, I remember him stalking somebody in the night with the intent to kill. The atmosphere was very ‘Jack the Ripper-ish’, hehe. And they both use knives.

T.J Combo - M.Bison (Barlog)
Riptor - Jurassic Park the raptors
King of Monsters

Astro man - Captin America w/o Shield
Geon - Godzilla

Same with Jack from the World Heroes series (in which just about everyone’s based on historical figures – or celebrities: Muscle Power = Hulk Hogan).
Actually, it’s Atomic Guy, and I think his design owes more to Ultraman than to any American comic book character.

Was playing CvS2 earlier, and I realized something about Eagle which I don’t think anyone mentioned yet. In one of his win poses he says “The show must go on,” which is a reference to the Queen song of the same name. Yet another Freddy Mercury connection.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure definitely has been inspiration for several character designers. Benimaru and Rose already have been mentioned but there are also less obvious and certain ones. Guile for example has the same over the top haircut as Stroheim from JoJo part 2 (who ironically is a nazi). Zappa (Guilty Gear) seems to have a heart-theme going on in his outfit, just like Dio Brando in JoJo part 3. And Dandy J from Waku Waku 7 seems to be some kind of weird combination of Indiana Jones and Joseph Joestar’s part 3 appearance.
That Ryu&Sagat info was on the WW thread a long time ago. (One day I’ll provide info and post there. I promise)
And I can’t beleive I forgot a really obvious one:
Cammy = Gunm (Battle Angel Alita)
Her amnesia, the 12 copies thing, her cannon spike and other kicks are directly taken from that manga.
I’m not sure if this was mentioned but:
Guilty Gear Isuka- Aba, taken from Haruko; Flcl
strohiem was a soldier for germany more than he was a nazi. that character showed that not everyone in germany (even the soldiers) wasnt evil like hitler and his horrible ideas. even strohiem paid the price of being apart of that army by getting parts of his body replaced by parts of machinery.
i dont think strohiem was a character base for guile. the flat top hair cut for guile is just an exageration of the american army crew cut, that is all.
guile is just the japanese ideal of an american army soldier. notice the large ridges over the eyes and the lack of eye brows. its a cave man in camo, with a crew cut done on a large scale because of artist choice and the fact that if u did a normal sized one he wouldnt standout as a character looks wise.
Got another:
Bob Wilson (Fatal Fury) = Bob Marley…really obvious, heh.
there was another character that Guile could be credibly based on, but i can’t remember who it was. it was from an anime too (not Jojo’s). could someone post a pic of Stroheim, Lisa Lisa, and/or give a link to images of the Jojo’s cast?
I think Zappa looks more to Vanila Ice(Jojo) compared to Dio since Ice hair and part of it’s fisical aparecence looks similar.
Also Eddie could be Iron Maiden+N’Dool with his stand Geb(Jojo)
I remember reading somewhere that Chris was not based off Seta.

80’s rock
you guys just reminded me, lord raptor is Eddie from Iron maiden representing Britain
and Zangief is the pro wrestler Nikita Volkoff of russian fame.
Gill of SF3 is blatantly based on Dark Schneider from Bastard!!, minus the two-color part.
The looks, the resurrection…
Then Hagiwara made references back to Sf3, with the Devil Konron who is just a Dudley devilish clone (complete with corkscrew blow and everything), and there’s a direct Gill reference in #21 iirc.
Rolento looks a LOT like the Golan Army chief from Hokuto no Ken/FoTNS
Lee from Last Blade series = Jet Li in Once Upon a Time in China, surely?
in fact a hell of a lot of the samurai from LB are based on legendary japanese guys / anime characters. (e.g. the guy who fishes is very similar to the old guy in Ninja Scroll?)
I think I can add jacky bryant from VF4 on the Bruce lee clone list. headlock kick, backfist, side kick…lots of their moves look very similar to each other. Jacky is more bruce lee now.
you’re sure about this? probably inspired by him, but doesn’t seem based on him.
True, there was that. I’m not sure of any sources to dispute the remaining ones one way or the other, though (but then again, the main issues still unresolved are K’ and Maxima).
