In this thread, you will list which FG characters are based on other characters

Damn didn’t know that.

Anyway now that someone mentions Last Blade and Kenshin…

Moriya-Kenshin
Setsuna-Enishi(?)
Washizuka-Saito

Neo-Dio (World Heroes) = Baoh (Baoh manga) + Dio (Jojo) + Cars (Jojo).

Youll have to give a source, because some of those are too far-fetched and have never been listed in any official source, specially considering the ACTUAL place Maxima and K came from (Daraku Tenshis team moved to SNK and made KOF99).

Every single GGXX character has a rock counterpart.

Novastar, Korigama:
could u guys give some uh… supporting evidence for those? some of them just seem a little far fetched, as has been pointed out.

Jaldaboath:
great find on the Ryu + Sagat origins

Which ones? If you don’t believe me, then I guess I can see what I can do, but the only ones I’d understand as questionable would be the references for K’ and Maxima, considering who I mentioned…

Not really, in name yes, but not in looks.

Guilty Gear:
I-no - Ringo (something) sorry don’t know full name but she looks alot like her.

I thought where stating opinions as well as fact. I never claimed any of mine to be official. Thats just what they look like to me. Maybe I misunderstood. My bad…
Although reading in a gaming magazine, I forget which one it was, In an interview with Hideo Kojima,he did mention that Kurt Russel was an inspiration for Snakes Character design. Besides, What so far-fetched about mine?

Twelve = EVA01 gone beserk + T1000
Alex = Axel Rose + Hulk Hogan
Necro = Dhalsim + Tim Burton’s Pinnochio

I just remembered:

Zappa’s spirit that possessed him (Guilty Gear XX)= Sadako from Ringu
The instant kill move is a dead giveaway

Dural (Virtua Fighter)= T-1000 from Terminator 2

I once read that Dan Hibiki’s face is based off of Robert’s, costume/body from Ryo, and personality from Yuri, lol. That makes sense though. Although Dan didn’t start acting retarded until SFA2. Dan and Yuri have that thumbs up special intro in CvS2 together.

Megaman/Rockman (MvC)= Astroboy, hehe

Norimaru (Marvel vs StreetFighter jpn version)= Japanese comedian of same name

BB Hood/Bulleta (DarkStalkers 3 Vampire Savior)= Little Red Riding Hood, …obvious

Lee Recca (Last Blade)= Jet Li’s ‘Once Upon A Time In China’ character: Wong Fei-Hong

The following, not sure if they count enough to be considered as obvious significant ‘based off of’, but I wonder…

Kazuya Mishima (Tekken)= Vegita (DBZ)
They’ve got similar trademark hair, crooked evil smirk, and both are constantly pissed off bastards. Coinidence or slight inspiration?

Xianghua (Soul Calibur)= Amelia from anime: Slayers
One of Xianghua’s winning quotes is, “Justice will prevail! Just kidding!” This is an obvious homage to Amelia. Both characters share similar hair styles, and Amelia is always shouting out that Justice will prevail to the badguys.

Kilik (Soul Calibur)= uncanny resemblence to Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy 8, who was based off of Gackt, Jrock singer

Karin (SFA3)= B-ko from anime: Project A-ko
Similar attitudes, curly hair, extremely wealthy, and rivals to spunky energetic schoolgirls… :karate:

King (Art of Fighting)= Ellen DeGeneres!
ok, that was just a joke… :badboy:

Ingrid (Capcom All Stars/Fighting Jam/Evolution)= Athena
Sakura (SFA2)= Yuri

Tiffany Rose (Rival Schools)= Swan White from anime: GaoGaiGar
Both curly blonde stereotypical bubbly Americans with huge knockers. Same voice actress for both characters. Also the voice actor for Batsu is the voice of Gai (from GaiGaiGar)

Sophitia (Soul Edge/Blade)= Gabrielle from Xena Warrior Princess (TV show)

Aside from the powers on account of the goddess theme, I don’t see them as being anything alike. In terms of appearance and mannerisms, she reminds me of Kula more than anyone else.

True. I just noticed the energy ball special moves, and the Jpop background music similiarities of the two. >,<

it would be nice if ppl didnt make up a whole bunch of bullshit with these. this thread is a horrible read.

Heh, speaking of win quotes (and this has nothing to do with appearance) one of Akuma’s win quotes in Puzzle Fighter is “You’re just a pathetic example of carbon-based wastage!” which is a homage to punk band Bad Religion, whose song “Modern Man” has the lyrics:

“Modern man, pathetic example of earths organic heritage,
Just a sample of carbon-based wastage.”

Don’t think this has been noted before.

Just found another one while playing Cyberbots

Santana - a young Carlos Santana

baek is taekwondo… steven seagal doesn’t even know how to kick properly… he’s aikio…

i think i’m just gonna leave the list as it is from here, since things are looking pretty messy :expressionless:

  • i think Tiffany (Rival Schools) might’ve been based off one of Kinu Nishimura’s unused SF3:NG character designs. but i don’t know Swan White from GaoGaiGar, so i can’t say :frowning:

  • wasn’t Karin (SFA3) based on an actual Karin in a popular SF doujinshi?

  • i think it’s safe to say all if not most of the Darkstalkers cast are based on some character in popular horror :stuck_out_tongue:

  • i think Ryuhaku Todo, at least his CvS2 incarnation, could be based on Soun Tendo, from Ranma 1/2 (his winning poses seem to support this).

His name is Kinashi Noritake (Noritake being his first name). Here’s his official website.

Hrm. The first episode of Yuushaou Gaogaigar aired on 02/01/1997, and Shiritsu Justice Gakuen (aka, Rival Schools) was released in Japanese arcades 12/1997. Kind of a tight window for Swan White to have had much influence on Tiffany Lords’ character design. I do wonder, however, if Narahashi Miki – Tiffany’s voice actress – didn’t get the role because of her work on Gaogaigar. It’s very easy to imagine JusGaku’s casting director hearing Swan’s outrageously accented Japanese-mixed-with-English dialogue and thinking “that’s who we need for Tiffany!”

As you pointed out, Ichimonji Batsu and Shishioh Guy were both voiced by Hiyama Nobuyuki (also the voice of Demitri Maximoff, Joe Higashi, and Gowcaizer), and I just remembered that Utsugi Mikoto (Yuushaou Gaogaigar’s female lead) and JusGaku’s Wakaba Hinata share the same voice actress: Hanba Tomoe. Hrm. Now I’m wondering if all 3 of these seiyuu work for the same talent agency – that would certainly sway their all being hired for JusGaku away from the “just a coincidence” end of things…

Oh, one more: Blue Mary’s character design (Garou Densetsu / Fatal Fury series, KOF series) was based on that of Android #18 (Dragonball Zed).

Before her appearance in SFZ3/SFA3, Karin appeared in Nakahira Masahiko’s manga “Sakura Ganbaru!” (serialized in Monthly Comic Gamest). While she has some passing similarities to B-ko from the “Project A-ko” anime film series, there are so many anime and manga characters that fall into this archetype (spoiled rich girl with an overdeveloped sense of rivalry and a “HO-hohohohoho!” laugh) that I don’t think B-ko can really be singled out as the inspiration for Karin.

Can’t believe I forgot that one, haha.

Oh yeah, if this counts, Testament is very similar to Jedah, if not so much in appearance as moveset :karate:

While Guilty Gear’s Zato-1 bears almost no physical resemblance to him, part of his basic concept (blind fighter) and his name (Zato One) come from the blind samurai, Zatoichi.

Baiken’s core concept is inspired by that of one-eyed, one-armed swordsman Tange Sazen. Here’s some info I posted at neo-geo.com on a new Tange Sazen manga drawn by Shiroi Eiji (under her other penname, Mera Zin), the primary illustrator for SNK’s Samurai Spirits (Shodown) series:
