A- are u dissing Winnie the Pooh?
B- Fortune isn’t really “serious”, robo is already punny AND a SG meme and BB is also half meme, although tame. If you put Fortune, Robo, Big Band and Stan in a row, you get a whole row of hash humour. This, in a cast of 13, not 30.
@Rabbit: yeah, glad to see her go too too bad for Angel, Vanessa and Blue Mary.
I dont think “my character” should win any more than any other character. Also “my” characters havent yet been voted out. If certain characters that hadnt been my first choice had been in, i still wouldnt be mad. Its the fact that so many little girls/scantily clad chicks are making it in and they dont from appearances perspective look like they could punch out of a paper bag that makes me mad… I like playing characters that LOOK LIKE THEY CAN FIGHT… At least. Thats all there is to it. And the problem is that charcters that DONT look like they can fight have a chance of taking not one but both spots. If we get minette and Marie air minette and Annie we get 2 characters that dont look like they can fight… Whether they can is whatever.
And funnily enough were this game to stay all girls i dont think id be so adamant about it… After all chicks can woop chicks asses, but a little girl wooping big bands ass? Its just a real stretch.
*The cast of Skullgirls is weird period. Girl with huge arms protruding from her head, a dismembered catgirl, and a small mentally deranged girl whose Schizophrenia turns into physical manifestations amongst other kooky designs. A fish waitress with low self esteem doesn’t sound that absurd in context with other characters. Neither does a man with a Wehrmacht Tank on his arm. *
Also just to add, last time I checked Skullgirls (as well as many other fighting games and/or games in general) never illicited that it was based in reality, its fantasy. We can debate the reality of a small girl fighting a giant man in a musically inspired iron lung till we’re blue in the face Dime but the very fact that this game is a pure work of fiction, we can sustain the air of disbelief and enjoy the craziness without letting our logical minds take the wheel. All fighters have unrealistic systems, even the most “real” fighters out there like Virtua Fighter. Fighters are and have always been irrational, heres some fine examples of mechanics prevalent in the genre:
there are 2+ rounds that happen within seconds of each other, how could someone get back up after being beaten to the point of being unconscious that quickly and completely rejuvenated?
most of these “trained assassin” types you talk of should theoretically end fights in one to two moves (with weapons that vicerate flesh, neck breakers, etc) or at least incapacitate their opponent within moments thus winning each fight with those seven wonderful letters.
uppercuts launching opponents to unrealistic heights and then jumping up after them to continue the onslaught and then launch them back to earth at a fast enough speed to leave an impact. To which the opponent casually stands back up.
flip kicking/uppercutting someone and then defying the laws of gravity and keeping them suspended in midair, as if they suddenly weigh 5 lbs or less, by continuing to punch or kick them repeatedly.
-Fireballs? Endless ammo? Infinite combos?
The list can go on and on we try to rationalize every fighting game trope but will always come to the same conclusion, fighting game universe = /= real universe.
Dime I respect your opinion (you dont have to like Minette, Annie, Stanley, or whomever), but your reasoning is flawed.
Don’t even worry about it Dime X, Minette is not going to make it into top 4 let alone be picked as the mystery character.
She will be having tea parties with Umbrella and Marie in the salt mines.
Could someone let Dime know that he is talking about Skullgirls? He seems to have forgotten that most of the characters have big breasts or don’t look like they could fight already, anything other would be breaking with tradition.
I don’t think playing in tournaments makes you any more important a fan than it does the rest of us; I paid for my copy and I play it at home. It could be argued that you should get less of a say if people want to be pedantic, as you will want an OP assassin regardless of looks, character or suitability to the game whereas us hobbyists will have more balanced opinions so tread carefully
Xiangfei, Bao, Hinako, May Lee, Malin and Momoko all brought new playstyles and character designs to KOF, just like Mature, Vice, Mary, Vanessa, Angel, Elisabeth and Oswald did. Like someone said in an old KOF XIII (?) thread, if you crave realism, play a UFC game.
Because of the voting format, people are voting for anyone who would give an edge to their favorite character. Such as if your favorite is a guy, you vote a girl in for your 2nd vote. If the final round is three girls and your one guy, the opposing vote would be split between the three and your guy would get the votes of those who want to have another guy besides Big Band in the game.
Other metavoting parameters are Moe, Science!, Manly, Fish, Time, and so on.
