In the end which characters do you think the community will choose for DLC character additions

  • Accidental double post. Damn you Srk. *

Why are all of your posts completely italicized? Also the results for Dahlia and Minette were OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE.

Yes, huge upsets on this top 8 pick. Marie, B. Dahlia, and Brain Drain being eliminated is huge. Minette, Beowolf, and Aeon making it into top 8 is really surprising. However, I feel that my predictions was mostly accurate so I’m going to double down on my previous selections.

Tier1 (30-20% chance): Annie, Eliza, Isaac, (Top 4 Wild Card1)
Tier2 (19-10% chance): Stanley, Panzerfaust
Tier3 (9-0%) chance): Minette, Beowolf, Aeon

It seems that the fight for the 4th Wild Card spot is going to be between Stanley and Panzerfaust. I congratulate Beowolf for making it as far as he did, he’s a true underdog, but I don’t think he’ll be able to secure 25% of the vote necessary to get into top 4. Especially with Stanley and Panzerfaust still in the race.

I think a lot of the reason there were so many upsets was that too many people were posting how confident that their 1st pick characters were going to make it (Marie, B. Dahila, Brain Drain) and decided to cast their vote for their 3rd picks instead (Minette, Beowolf, Aeon). Now people realized that was bad strategy and they are going to really push their first picks harder. This is a huge boon for Panzerfaust as nearly all his threats has been eliminated in one shot, except for Stanley. Conspiracy?

Maaaaaaaaay Beeeeeeee…

Beowulf making it is not surprising at all if you’ve paid any attention to who people on tumblr are voting for. He’ll probably be top 4, even.

there’s a lot of meta-guessing going on all over but it makes me wonder if lab zero will change the format of the second vote to something else to see if the results change

maybe something with brackets in the next vote?

i’m sure they’re thinking of something interesting since they got all that data to look over.

The same goes for Minette, she’s pretty popular on that site as well.

I think there should be a final round of just two characters after the 4 character round, as it might eliminate some of the vote gaming thats been going on, and perhaps make the end result more accurate to who the community as a whole wants.

For instance, if characters A, B, C, and D are the final 4, and A gets 1/3 of the vote, while B, C, and D all split roughly evenly, A would win, even if 2/3rds of the voters absolutely hate character A. With a final 2 vote after that, whoever had slightly more votes between B, C, and D (lets say B )would be directly against A, and the 2/3rds of the voters who would never vote A vote for B instead, and B wins the vote even though A would have won if the vote had been decided in the previous round.

Or I’m probably just overthinking this.

Any thoughts, @Ravidrath?

You make some good sense there. Only problem i find in this is who those other 2/3 people are… Are they tournament players? Or are they simply fanboys/girls with no actual interest of playing these characters COMPETITIVELY? I personally think that competitive tourny players votes should count more, or at least those players that are registered for evo would count more… I just dont like the fact that fans are making the decisions of who the players… Play.

I was appalled that almost 70% of the people voting in this poll have never been to a fighting game tournament… No wonder that the lollies are so popular… They arent even planning on playing the game, they just want to force people to play their lollie… I mean it isnt as conspiratorial as the way i make it sound… But, it IS a problem that people not actually interested in competitive play are basically making the decisions… They arent US.

Tourny players make the fighting game scenes relevant… When was the last time anyone saw a huge fan turn out for a dead tourny game? It doesnt happen, so letting fans dictate the characters is a mistake imho. But what’s done is done… But yeah, just hope they dont royally fuck us with a loli…save that for unpopular fighters like bb and other doujin stuff that no one plays.

If votes were weighted at all, it would be weighted towards the people who donated the most. I don’t think we want to go down that road.

In regards to the idea of running a 5th round of voting, I can think of 2 problems with it:

  1. It wouldn’t make sense to change the rules at this stage of the vote IMO; maybe for the next character.

  2. The final round would become something of an anti-vote, increasing rather than reducing the number of young whippersnappers trying to “game the votes”. Whereas with 4 characters in the final round there is a greater chance that 1 character out of the remaining 4 will hold some interest to the majority of voters. I think voting for a character you sort of like is probably more satisfying than grudgingly voting for one character you don’t like over another one you abhor (y so much hate).

To summarize my second point; yes you would be turning the tables on the organized majority, but negatively, in effect selecting a character that some people wanted and other people settled for.

Im not seriously saying that the votes should now be weighted. That would constitute fraud as something other than what was sold would be offered. Cant do that, its fraudulent.

Its just me primarily expressing disgust for having my character decided for me by fanboys…

Though yeah if i had it my way, had i known then what i know now i would have weighted it toward evo entrants or past evo entrants… Ie someone that at least knows how fighting games actually play and what actually makes the good ones good and the bad ones bad.

Mike may know what he’s doing from balance and moveset standpoint but he can’t account for the troll vote that wants in lollies but dont actully want to play as them past a month of single player.

The thing about joke characters is that the joke gets old and then you are left with the character…which inevitably ends up a waste of a slot even with a balanced game design simply because they dont pound out the laughs/giggles anymore… When was the last time someone laughed at a dan player yucking it up? Almost never cause the dan joke went out more than a decade ago, he hasn’t been funny since.

But its meh, perhaps mike will get it right and make an outstanding joke/troll character out of minette that will stay hilarious… But its doubtful cause all jokes get old, whereas good ol fundamental play never does.

I think votes should have been weighed from the beginning. don’t lolis (or young characters in general) are necessarily bad characters, depends on who they are. As a KoF player, I sighed in relief to see Bao, Momoko and Marlin get axed. I still think a cast of 13 doesn’t have room for a meme/funny/joke character, especially when Robo-Fortune’s already in. imho, 2 years from now, we might be feeling mighty stupid.

There are NO joke or troll characters in the Skullgirls voting lineup.

The Dan example is flawed, since a big part of his joke is he’s designed to be under powered and lower tired.

And this folks, is why we cant have nice things.

How can you NOT consider minette a joke character? Cause her playstyle will purportedly be strong? That isnt the joke man. Dan isnt just a bad character that is underpowered. He also runs around taunting, has a super taunt has moves that are expressly designed to induce giggles (sf4 backthrow, failed ultra, backdash etc etc)

The difference is whether minette will be a comedic character such as r.mika that isnt expressly designed to be shitty, or whether she will be designed to be like dan… But there’s a caveat:

She doesnt actually want to fight… So she has to damage people by running away and being a general clutz… Thats not comedic… Thats a fucking joke, that will get old really quick. I mean who could imagine TRAINED ASSASSIN FIGHTERS to lose a fight to a chick that doesn know or want to know how to fight…its just really bad comedy.

Im not so much against comedic characters in triple a titles cause they have the money to throw out so many different designs… But this isnt a triple a premium fighter with a huge budget, every one of these characters need to pull there own weight over the long haul, or at least give a damn good effort at it.

Also Phoenix wright is a comedic character that no one uses that wasnt expressly designed to be shitty… After all if he was designed to be that way he wouldnt have turnabout mode… And still no one uses him.

If Labzero just came out and said “you know what, we’re just gonna do Dahlia and Umbrella”, you’d get less than 10% of all this salt.
And people just want Minette because they’re hoping she’ll be as strong as Roll.

@lightskin: what the hell is Andy then? A well thought out, deep and meaningful design? He’s as much of an anvil with boxing gloves as stanley is a shark in a labcoat.

God you sound like such a snob right now, and this is coming from a person who’s a competitive player.

Why should competitive players get more of a say than casual players if both types of players are supporting the game? It doesn’t even matter because regardless of who ends up making it into the game, Mike Z will make that character competitive. It doesn’t matter if Issac, Minette, Andy or Marie becomes a character, the character will be balanced and playable.

And as far as “the lollies” being so popular, there are professional competitive players (that are probably much better players than you) who play characters like Roll, Hisui, Filia, etc. It is really reaching to assume that “serious” players aren’t supporting “the lollies”

Do you really think people who have no interest in playing the game are “making the decisions”? Do you really believe people are donating money to vote in a poll for a game they have no intention on spending a lot of time playing? Besides, I don’t even see why you are so salty, 75% of the characters remaining aren’t “the lollies”

Tourney players make the fighting game scenes relevant, but casual players make the game successful, most players who play video games are casual players. Supporters of the game should have influence regardless on how good they are at the game.

For what it’s worth, I think it’s pretty insulting to Alex to refer to multiple character designs he worked hard on as Lolicon.

Ok, so you prefer to not play characters that have any comedic playstyle to them. That doesn’t mean the character itself is a joke, if anything it’s actually staying true to the character by utilizing such mechanics.

Obviously you’re not wrong, since it’s your opinion. However I’m certain plenty others don’t share it.

All I can really say is that’s why there’s 12 other characters you’ll be able to choose from that appeals more to your serious sensibilities.

Yay for variety.

This seems to be a common attitude amongst ragers whose favored characters didn’t get voted in. There’s a natural assumption that their character is what should win and rage when they don’t. The words are different each time, but it boils down to calling every other character they don’t like that they suck and calling them everything from loli/furfag/casual/trolls/non-game players even when knowing nothing about them personally.

Frankly, it’s a stretch to call any vote a troll vote when they have to pay money to get to vote in the first place. And who would pay money on something that they don’t enjoy playing? Just because they’re not high-level players, doesn’t mean their opinions hold less water. Mike Z is capable enough to make a good character out of whoever people pick and not have it a wasted slot.

And this folks, is why people dislike fighting games communities’ “Stop Having Fun” Guys.

Joke characters are weak. The funny part usually comes from being weak, but that’s their main trait. Like joke weapons in other games. They may or may not be that funny, but their weakness is the trait they all share. The funny part is secondary.

I know people who regularly use Hsien-ko and Phoenix Wright because they’re fun to play. Just because they’re not used that much in tournaments doesn’t make them wasted slots. Only a very small minority play fighting games with money on the line.

An Anvil with boxing Gloves is a more creative design than a fake Mike Tyson or a Jamaican Billy Blanks. LOL

A Shark with a labcoat is more creative than a Bear with a Scarf or a fake Kung Fu Panda. LOL
