I'm hotter than you!: Poison Match-up thread * Open for Discussion* (Updated: 8/28/2014)

I have been practicing punishing DP FADC forward with U2 and just yesterday was able to pull it off in a real match. I would say Ultra combo double works to an almost above average level with Poison compared to the rest of the cast.

I would like to get your opinions on DeeJay, what would be the gameplan on this one ? Is it the usual zone him while pushing him to the corner and apply the corner pressure.

I was actually testing slashes and I punished the LK slash but then afterwards I wasn’t able to punish them (spaced or not.) I tried a few more times and he kept jumping out. Otherwise that would have gone in. I’ll goof around with it again. (couldn’t get MK or HK slash either spaced or unspaced. Could be just goofin.)

I’ve given the thought of double ultra but i’m stubborn in wanting U2 damage. But having both adds even more utility when time comes.

As for hardest matchups, Evil Ryu is probably the biggest standout.

Yea I can see that. Everyone’s different on how they want to use their meter. I’m just a person who wants raw U2 damage. Plus Poison builds meter pretty easily so it’s not like it’s a huge loss.

I haven’t fought Dee Jay yet with Poison but I was fooling with stuff against him last night. I’d zone him out into the corner then pressure him with fireballs and normals. Any badly spaced LK sobat is a reversal DP (MK DP is the best for reversal). Probably going to use a lot of far s.MK to stuff thrown normals. Since knee drop alters his jump arc, I wouldn’t recommend trying to DP and just stick to normals. Probably between cr.HP and far s.HK depending on range. I’d say cl.HP would be pretty decent for anti-crossup j.MK or knee drop but again, I haven’t played the match nor tested it. just going by thoughts until I go to training and test things out.

So it seems like Rose gets shit on by dash forward safe jump after rekkas. Her only option is to back dash. Thoughts?

I’ve already played several Dee Jays, and even ran several games with AOA Armageddon on XBL. Solid Dee Jay imo. I was able to zone pretty effectively and spaced him out, and just slowly pushed him to the corner. On wake-up there’s really jack that he can do about a meaty HP Fireball, so if you get a back throw of some sort, or get Rekkas, you can pretty much do your meaty setup relatively free on him.

So yeah, general gameplan has worked for me so far though, against Dee Jays overall and not just that one player. I keep away to build resources, while doing my best to push them to the corner so that I can spend them for damage/FADC’s, etc.

And Evil Ryu the hardest? That’s interesting! I haven’t seem to had much trouble in that matchup with her, whenever I’ve lost it I legitimately feel it’s because I’ve made an error, left damage on the table, etc. I think it’s 5/5 myself, at worst 6/4 Evil Ryu. She can zone pretty well, and her C.MK is on par, or close to his C.MK range too. I’ll try to run some games with CORN Alucard’s Evil Ryu next local session we have and see how the matchup goes/feels. Granted he’s a much better player than me but I think he’s got the best Evil Ryu. (That’s a discussion and opinion for another day, though.) It’s just my opinion as far as the matchup, though. I do say that I think she bodies grapplers pretty free, her screen control vs them is ridiculous.

I personally still feel Vega is harder for her to deal with, though. He doesn’t seem to bothered by her zoning game if he’s played correctly, and she can’t really play footsies with him that well, as most character’s can’t.

Thoughts on the Dudley matchup? I think she does well for a couple of reasons, but I want to see what you all think too. Couple of my thoughts on it:

C.LK/C.LP OS LP Rekka tears him up if he just tries to brainlessly do Ducking to get in or close the gap, same with C.MK x MP Rekka. Those are really annoying for him to deal with. When he gets U1 you can’t throw fireballs at all, which hurts, but also means that he’s going to try and bully you even more, and I feel her normals can space/counter-poke him really well and harass him quite a bit.

I think she’s fine against Vega. Another character I was curious about so I tested things out. you’ll generally be playing Vega matches slow to begin with. But most important normals are s.LP, cr.LP, s.LK s.MK, cr.MK, s.MP, and s.HP. Fireballs help but I think once he has meter and you see him with a charge, you need to be careful.

The fact she has a fireball means Vega can’t do whatever he wants. He SHOULDN’T be able to punish safe rekka if they’re -3 but I actually didn’t get to the punish bit on Vega’s end. Primarily want it to be a footsie battle in the end with your meter going into EX fireball or EX Rekka off a hit confirm s.MK/cr.MK. Izuna drops should lose to an extremely late DP (another thing I need to test.) otherwise just backflip.

Dudley is pretty hell once you’re knocked down. I think you can keep up with him mid to full screen but once he closes the distance and scores a hit, it begins to go highly in dudley’s favor.

Yeah, she can do well vs Dudley and slow the pace down, or rush down when she has resources. But if he gets a knockdown, it’s hell, which is generally how Dudley matches go lol. :<

Rekkas are -4 on the first hit. C.LK from Poison/Decapre punishes it on block, and Vega can C.MP x EX Wall Dive it every time.

-4? I need to go look at the frame data again lol.

yea if that’s the case, i’d just stick to normals and normal canceled into either fireball or LMT.

Overhead beating jump ins has been working for me a lot. I actually started doing it because of an accident. lol

Yo Kiu, it’s Quentin bro! Thanks for joining us in this thread bro!

I’m aware. Glad to be here my broski.

I seem to struggle most with E.Ryu and Bison. Bison might be a player thing more than a matchup thing, though. I fear him.

"Rekkas are -4 on the first hit. C.LK from Poison/Decapre punishes it on block, and Vega can C.MP x EX Wall Dive it every time."
I am pretty sure these punishes are spacing based.

Juri can forward dash right under your AE. Let me know if you want video of this.

So nasty…

(I wonder if Adon can do it too.) (ed. he can’t.)

But, likewise, you can f. MP hop over the low Fuhajin.

I might be wrong, and very well could be. However I feel/felt confident that it was a consistent punish every time I tried to space it out.

Ooh. I find Poison annoying as Juri so I wonder how hard it is. I find it’s not worth the effort normally with the divekick but Poison recovers so fast and I know her fireball has a (badly) deceptive hitbox.

You guys probably found these set ups for certain characters so sorry if I repost them but this is what I found in the lab today.

Forward throw, whiff st.mp, forward jump hp (Safe jump against sagat, cammy,)
Back throw, wait a split second, empty jump (Works against cammy but can be ambiguous for both cammy and poison because posion might switch sides.)
second note sometimes cammy will dp the wrong way other wise it will be blocked.

This does not work on sagat but it might work on small characters causing them to reversal in the wrong way.
^ (Still needs more testing it might be spacing dependent if it causes other characters to reversal the wrong way, but this seems to be common with cammy. It leads to a free punish when it happens.)
Poison crosses over ibuki in the same manner as cammy but less frequently. When it does she seems to reversal the correct way.
Also beats ken’s HP dp, and MP dp, but not lp dp (So i think this is a 4 frame safe jump) (please correct me if its not.)

Light lmt
Can do a neutral empty jump and it beats 4 frame moves.

Rekka
Dash > Neutral jump hk (Might beat 4 frame moves but i know it beats reversals like sagats and cammy.)
Walk > Neutral jump hk (Beats 4 frames)

Anti Air AE > LMT > same set up as the first lmt safe jump

Light DP > FADC > Sweep > Jump forward (Beats jump forward.) Not really useful since you’re using 2 bars but its there.

If ken gets all light dp happy you can place a fierce AE to stuff it and continue with your combo of choice.

Got me feelin’ lovely,
got me feelin’ nice…

EDIT: Her leg throws are -2* not -4. Thawk cannot SPD them on reversal.

I assume you got the Bradley app like I did lol. That thing is HELLA wrong.

On another note. What do we do against Gouken? He has so many options out of his flip kick that effs her up so bad AND he out fireballs her.

She can dash under gouken’s flip kick.

Combofiend said: whichever degree kick or punch you do prior- the rekka has to be the same degree. For example, if you do a LP or LK into rekka, the Rekka itself must be LP. If you do a MP/MK into rekka, the rekka itself must be medium; Fierce punch into Fierce Rekka, and so forth. This would lead to a lot less dropping because different rekkas have different startup frames and travel distances. =)

Note, that I am not saying its impossible to do certain combinations. It’s possible to combo a light Rekka off a medium punch. But you are not going to be able to combo a Fierce Rekka off of a Light punch or kick.

So i played about 50 games last night vs a very good player in my community with poison. as wolfkrone just released her weird hit box/block mid combo stuff I suspect that this may have issues with poison too.

i was hitting cr lk, cr lp, cr lp, st mk bnb vs everyone i played last night. however, it appeared to be extremely inconsistent. can anyone confirm? im at work all day.

also, elena can block bnbs mid combo from dhalsim too! lol
