I'm hotter than you!: Poison Match-up thread * Open for Discussion* (Updated: 8/28/2014)

Mp rekka seems to whiff from max st.mk distance.

Yes, it still does.

I don’t know if this has been posted before so apologies if so.

Very easy ambiguous safe jump/cross up set up.

Back throw, immediate forward jumping lk.

To never mess the timing, hold up+forward during the throw so your immediate jump in comes out every time.

Works on: decapre, ryu, Honda, makoto, dudley, gen, sakura, Elena, juri, chun, sim, viper, bison ,Cody, e.ryu, guile, Vega, Adon, rose, yang, Hugo

Somewhat works: ken, yun, cammy, deejay, poison, blanka, rufus, balrog, el feurte

  • Ken: Lp dp trades but whiffs all other dps
  • yun: only beats hk/mk dp, lk/ex wins clean
  • cammy: whiffs dp but gets away :frowning:
  • deejay: loses to up kicks, beats ex upper
  • poison: beats mk, hk, ex dp, loses to lk dp
  • blanka: ex up ball whiffs, beats electricity and regular balls, loses to u1
  • rufus: ex messiah gets blocked. Wake up ultra hits you
  • balrog: headbutt whiffs. ex rush punch will beat you.
  • el feurte: ex dp whiffs, ex run can escape

Doesn’t work on: Seth, gouken, akuma, Dan, oni, Abel, sagat, guy, rolento, zangeif, fei long, t.hawk, anyone who delays their wake up.

  • Hakan actually gets up a tad slower causing this set up to whiff entirely. So you can make his u2 whiff but he can punish you otherwise.

** this was only tested mid screen. Corner doesn’t apply

I have no clue what to do against Guy.

It’s like I can’t press any button whatsoever and I can’t zone him.
It’s a nightmare trying to keep him out, and he can dive right under U1 as well.

I have found U2 to be somewhat useful in this match, more the threat of it than the move itself because it may stop them from doing some of Guy’s run gimmicks. You still need U1 too ofcourse so i think UW is the way to go. I would say try to stay at the cr.MK range as much as possible from my experience because You can’t really zone Guy as you said. I also noticed that LMT pressure is kinda risky vs him because of his Ex.Tatsu so baiting it is probably a good idea. You should try to anti-air his elbow drop but it could be rough if the Guy player keeps mixing it up with his crossup.

Cr.hp beats his elbow drop, and when they go for that forward roll jump and mix up elbow or throw, just crouch and be ready to Cr.hp that shit, if he’s going to grab you need to be standing or jumping, and if he notices you aren’t standing and cancels to elbow, bat that shit away.

You just dash under, cr.hp, lvl 2 focus, s.rh and etc the elbow drop. Just make sure you do a option that lets you escape quickly or you will get bushin grabbed!

Her st.mp seems knock out anti airs like yang and yuns fairly well.

After seeing how Momochi was dealing with it in SEAM in grand finals. I am starting to think maybe a read air to air is the best option to deal with Yun/Yang’s dive kicks. I know our J.HK isn’t as active as Ken’s framewise but I reckon it might be a good answer.

So small tidbit I found earlier in training against Elf. Poison’s cr.MK>1st hit of EX rekka. 1st hit of EX rekka whiffs on Elf.

this game is just filled with stupid hitbox issues…

Well that makes it more of a pain now especially since Elf is already quite an annoyance for her. I finally fought an Elf today and honestly this matchup is extremely annoying. Only thing I was able to even do was anti-air wall jumps with S.RH. Just seems like everything she does he has an answer for. Also, his body splashes beat Poisons DP’s clean.

No trade no nothing.

EDIT: alright I derped. this is the matchup thread. I posted it in the video thread.

I just had my first Abel experience. I have the same feeling when i am using Guile vs him. I think it is probably a 5-5 match but it seems that you have to be really careful. I have found that as said in the OP, HP AE is really useful in this match. The Able player i have played against wasn’t very F+MK happy but i have found Cr.MK and st.HP to be good buttons vs him. I just think that overall it isn’t a fun matchup to play.

abel isn’t a fun character at all to play against because he’s just rock paper and scissors on your wakeup except he’s actually dangerous with that and has movement options.

long set between torimeshi (probably no#2 best dhalsim in the world next to yhc mochi) against keshikaren (high level rose player from japan).

and from how the matchup is played, it looks like its a 7-3 or 6.5-3.5. pfft. good to know mashing ex tender on wake up is a good idea against teleport fireball mixups but after that yeah it looks super slow and youre forced to play dhalsims game

Glad the notes helped!

I also came to a discovery… Poison Kiss Ultra MAY be very good versus Gief especially since he’s not going jump much and do whatever to get it. It can punish most of his whiffs or approaches on reaction. I’m really going to go into the lab with this and do some serious testing. But from what I’m seeing and figuring out it’s probably a REALLY good option.

Sometimes cammy willdp the correct way. Idk why that happens.

Im looking at this tier list that’s up on eventhubs for Poison and I do not agree with a few match ups being 7-3.
I don’t agree with Dudley,Akuma,Cammy, Makoto, Elena, Decapre, and Rufus. I feel like each of those match ups are 5-5. I also don’t agree with rose. I mean yes she has good normal but if we knock her down we can bully her. I feel like that match is 5-5 or 6-4 in her favor at worst.

Makoto and deKappa aren’t that bad. Makoto can’t do shit to lmt, and decrapre is focus bait for everything.
