The Guile matchup feels impossible. He can out fireball you and her walk speed is so ass she can’t close the distance to work her in close game. Anyone got any tips on that one?
I feel like if her DP actually worked as a decent anti air she would have a lot less problems. Characters with good jumping normals can be tough to beat when they space their jump ins right because of the weird hitbox on her DP.
That said if I get them in the corner I feel like I beat everyone lol
I was playing a few good roses earlier. I just mixed up my fireballs to mess up her reflects. usually when I throw out heavy AE I throw out a far.hp to keep her from reflecting.
I was going through abel’s normal in the lab and her far st.lp and his st.short seems to trade with each other evenly. Her cr.mp beats his cr.mp or trades. st.mk goes over cr.lk and cr.mp. and im going to see what can beat his step kick.
I’m talking like she was dashing and reflecting hp fireballs, dashing and doing ex fb to catch my fb start up, winning the fireball war or making it close, while maintaining the distance he wanted, anti airing perfectly. Granted she got away with some jump ins that my cr.hp missed, but her cr. Mr just stuffs everything, makes my 5-6+ frame normals feel like shit
Dudley beats Poison. Easy, the buffs he received make this easy for him.
The best thing you can do is use HP fireballs and back dashes to catch the recovery of ducming because it’s much faster and tons better now in Ultra. Also, cr.mk is good for when you bait the ducking or it’s used at an improper time. You really need to get as much damage as possible in a short amount of time amd make him to have to force the matchup becahse that’s when he starts making making mistakes and start to close the gap into your fireball mixup. But please becareful about Rolling Thunder. It can and will pumosh pretty much any fireball from 75% of the screen. Sweep him out of mistakes for the hardknockdown shenanigans. Cr. Mk also handles f.fierce and some of his otber momentum based normals well.
Good normals to usse are
s.mk - cr.mk - st.mp - cr.rh and st.rh (on occasion, because Dudleys J.RH has a crazy low hitbox, and his normals go under her st.RH.)
Hmmm, I actually want to say that from actually playing Juri against Poisons that actually had a clue that I don’t think Poison has too much trouble with her. Juri has a hard time keeping up in fireball war, and trying to divekick AEs feel pretty hard. Juri seems to have really hard time AAing J.HK too, it felt both her C.mp and hp were rather unreliable. Of course, I could be off the mark. She just sort of got bullied. I’m not exactly great with Juri though, so there that, but it just things I noticed.
You can punish Oni with U2 if he tries any EX crossup shenanigans on your wakeup. I’ve only done it once or twice so I may have just got lucky and he hadn’t crossed to the other side when as I was waking up
I know it’s still early days but it’s really feeling like Poison is a character with some really weird one sided matchups. Some she seems to utterly dominate (Hugo) and others she feels completely helpless (Gouken). I am hoping for some more higher level representation further down the line to get an idea how viable she’ll be in the long run. Even if she’s really good or really bad after some time I’ll stick with her.
It is hard for Juri. I think it’s probably even or 6-4 Poison. Mostly because of the fireball game. Juri can really hurt Poison if she pushes her into the corner but you have to be able to do that. Juri is forced to go into their cr.mk ranges which is risky cause she has less health and can lose the damage race hard if she can’t land a solid poke. If she DOES though she gets pinwheel or even a lk fireball fadc throw/normal to pinwheel which puts Poison in the corner. One divekick is enough to threaten Poison with the corner too. Still. Poison forces Juri to play a different game than she usually wants and that’s enough to be problematic.
I haven’t gotten to play the matchup too much. A good 15 matches or so with one guy with Juri and like 2 Juri’s using Poison. That’s how I feel about it right now though.
Any character with a mutli-hitting fireball is impossible to win the ranged game against. Unfortunately they’re also the characters you really don’t want to be next to.
I think shotos are gonna be a huge problem. I’ve been playing Ryus, E.Ryus, Akumas, and Kens and they really just seem to do everything she does but way better. You cannot win the fireball war and have to spend meter to even contend, and then when you get in LMT’s range is just too shitty to actually close the gap. Her AAs work if you’re positioned right but if not you just have to block and eat more fireball pressure.
Not to mention their normals outrange hers
Any ideas on how to get through bullet hell? I’m kinda new to SF, wanted to play solely for Poison, and the endless stream of shotos online is making me hate this game.
In the Rose matchup, you can reversal through any blockstrings containing Soul Spiral. That’s fairly obvious, but apparently you can use HK KBG in this case. It low profiles under the spiral and generally hits fully AFAIK. 140 damage (compared to the 90 or so you’d get from a one-hit MK KBG)…
Just thought it was interesting.
st. HP seems to work well as a whiff punish vs. Rose’s cr. MP. You can try whiff punishing with cr. MK/cr. MP xx EX WoL, but EX WoL may whiff if you are not close enough.
They definitely don’t, I couldn’t get it to work at all.
In general, I haven’t had any trouble with any other character’s Zoning yet. It seems to me that Poison can totally go even or outzone Guile or Sagat, her fireball game is nuts! Her meter build + using ex fireball to take the lead seems like a huge part of it.
The poison mirror is a bitch and seems really hard to get the life lead back in.
Far st.LP has worked wonders for me too in the dive kick matchups.
I don’t think I’ve found a matchup that I REALLY don’t want to play her in yet. I’m thinking Blanka could be problematic, but I haven’t played any good ones yet. Seth maybe too, but that might be me personally being mad at the matchup.
