Speaking of which who do you guys feel i a good secondary for Poison ? I am have a character crisis on that, I love Cody but I want to feel like Ultra is a new game and Cody hasn’t changed that much really so i want to take a little break from him. I am debating between Yun and Makoto. I haven’t had this much fun with Makoto before, but her Ex uppercut hitting grounded opponents have made her a lot more fun to me at least. Yun is a weird one because i am also finding him fun despite me absolutely hating his design aesthetics.
Well I mained Ken since vanilla so he defaults to my sub now. Would I recommend Ken as a sub? ehh… There really isn’t that much chemistry. What I mean by that is they don’t cover each others match ups well enough. Ken is like a 5-5 across the board sort of thing. He doesn’t have a bad match up really. He helps against some match ups I don’t enjoy with poison like bison, gouken, blanka, twins, dhalsim etc. But I would rather someone who does well in match ups poison doesn’t do so well. Do I know one to recommend? Nope lol Ken and poison were the only characters I’ve enjoyed playing in the street fighter 4 series. Which would be surprising considering I was an akuma main in 3s.
I’d honestly say Yang. Great footises, better rekka, great normals (with a better cr.MK). dive kick to help. Great walkspeed…
and he somewhat has a get out tool with EX dash.
What is the best punish for an Akuma trying to teleport away ?
I think Poison has to let him go unless you read a teleport coming. I’d say U1 but I don’t think it’ll reach in time unless you read it.
Possible HK version of LMT but again…gotta read the teleport.
MAYBE backflip if Akuma is in the corner. But I’m not sure how reliable that’d be. I’m only theory guessing atm as I’m about to head to sleep.
Maybe a lp AE, u1 but sometimes it goes the wrong way
How do you guys deal with Akuma and Gouken’s demon flips? I have just been trying to get out of the way up until now, but it would be nice to be able to get some damage with a punish, and discourage them from trying it again.
Poison can’t do anything about Gouken’s Demon Flip outside of try to punish. But his options clearly outweigh your options with just demon flip>focus alone.
Not too sure with Akuma. Backflip would be an option but since it got hella nerfed, Akuma can land and walk her down i’m sure.
She’s definitely on the shitty end of that situation there really isn’t much she can do about Akuma teleporting away. I don’t even really think an option select could cover that, but as Shin said I think as well … HK LMT maybe be the only real option.
Unless you read it and he teleports into the corner then you can U1 it.
Also, this just in you guys… Did some testing. You can Ultra Punish Decapres everything with U1 or anything that has a active hitbox.
It will hit her before she even gets to you.
Do you mean her scramble stuff ?
Yeah, what he said. I don’t understand exactly what you saying.
you can focus the poor woman all day. Be careful anti airing decapre when she jumps forward. Its possible for her to jump forward and spiral arrow.
I’ve been using forward dash to get under some demon flips, but only if they are timed late.
As for punishing amuka teleport, I think i just punished one with two dashes into cr.mk > ex WoL. Unless he just wasn’t blocking low.
I feel the Dhalsim matchup is in Poison favor. She can EX LMT over his Ultra 1 if she’s close enough and as long as you stay patient and get in, Dhalsim can’t really do anything to stop your rushdown. I don’t think he can even stop you from spamming c.MK to HP AE while he’s in the corner.
Dhalsim CAN stop your rushdown. Super, Teleport, Yoga Blast(s) EX especially.
As well, b+rh, s.mk, s.rh, s.mp, cr.mp are all notable normals that can stop your rushdown.
It’s a 5-5 match-up because what ends up happening is whoever gets the life lead ends up having to chase the other down. Such is some matchups, also his fireballs match yours and I think he even builds more meter than you do; He can also slide under your fireballs, cr.mp under them as well and at the correct range he can TK teleport and beat your fireball recovery.
You’re really going to want to take life lead and bait him to come to you, otherwise it’s a game of chase down the skinny man.
I don’t see it.
It’s extremely difficult to get in on Dhalsim.
IMO it’s at least a 4-6 match up.
Dhalsim can simply slide against most of what you do…I really think that particular slide should be negative unless it already is.
This is what I have for gief.
*Zangief *
*(6-4) Poison
Best Ultra: U1
Offense:
You shouldn’t go for much of any offense against gief unless it is to dash up to throw every now and then. You’re best offensive options is to annoy him with her far standing hard punch, but make sure you use it sparingly as zangief can focus and spd you.
You can also throw out standing mid kick to fish for some way to get into a rekka combo or simply throw a fireball as well. Everything else you do can be command thrown.
Defense:
Anti airs:
What you are going to want to do is remember to use these normals, far standing mp, cr.hp, jump hp/mp,jumpback hp/mp, medium AE, hard punch AE, medium dp, ex dp and Ultra 1.
You want to know what your options are just in case you cant anti air with cr.hp properly. Crouching hp works pretty well in this match up except you have to use it after he comes down from the apex of his jump for it to have a good chance not to trade. If he is too low to the ground it would be best to use her ex dp to anti air. Then of course
there is her ultra 1 you can use to anti air or combo from a Fierce AE when gief jumps on them to get the damage.
Fireballs:
For your fireballs you’re going to want to mix up your medium and heavy ones. It means he will take more chip and regular damage from jumping into fireballs or blocking them. I suggest using her light one if he is full screen and then start using the other ones.
As for her far standing mp you can use that to back up your fireballs to anti air gief at certain distances when he jumps or use far standing hp to push him out afterwards.
If you need to do some sort of string to push him away please use her medium fireball as it is 0 on block so he cant throw you.
Wake up game: (It may be poor but you have a lot of options to make up for it.)
If you get knocked down I suggest mixing up your wake up options. You have 6 wake up options, quick stand, do nothing and stay down, use delayed wake up, backdash, and a dp. Use them all to keep gief guessing what you will have an easier time on wake up. This wont be easy to do as gief can close the distance every now and then so make sure you are on point.
What to watch out for:
When you pressure gief in the corner please remember when you throw fireballs to know that gief can and will command throw you if you do cr.mk to fierce AE. Its not worth canceling from cr.mk unless you do cr.mk to medium AE. Yes less advantage on block but you can avoid being command thrown and losing what you’ve worked for.
If you block a green hand make and you have ultra please be ready to do a cr.lp combo into medium dp. It means you’re able to ultra punish it and if you can’t throw it.
Lastly if you see that you’ve hit gief with a fierce AE in the corner, you have enough time to space your crouching hard punch and do her ex fireball into cr.mk to a medium rekka series resulting in almost 400 damage. (He must be in a crouching position if he is standing replace cr.mk to cr.lp after ex fireball for 290 damage.)
Take whatever chances of damage you can get and back off.
Honda seems like a really good match-up. I wouldn’t say she beats him as much as Guile does but i think it is pretty close to that.
Zoning is the name of the game here, you have to try to zone him with fireballs as much as possible. Mixing up between MP and heavy works well on him, especially since a lot of Honda players like to neutral jump fireballs. The fact that Honda can’t change his jump arc also means that anti-airing him isn’t that tough really. I don’t know about trying to air to air though because his neutral jump fierce is really really good. All the standard anti airs like Far HK st.MP cr.HP works really well when well spaced. Something to look out for is that many Honda players like to neutral jump, I have found a great success in landing U1 in reaction to their neutral jump from about 1/3 screen distance.
After scoring a hard knockdown you can corpse hop with overhead or do some HP AE pressure. Be careful of Ex headbutt though, It doesn’t have isn’t projectile invisible but it is a legit reversal, look out for Ex Butt slam as well.
You should also be careful of his U1 when you are zoning or pressuring him because it goes through projectiles so i wouldn’t recommend doing stuff like cr.MK xx HP AE against him as much since he can ultra through that if the opponent has good reaction or is looking out for it. Ending block strings in LP AE is better vs him IMO with the occasional HP, so mixing it up is the way to go really.
Thanks a lot Genistar! Ill add it to the OP ! I personally like U2 vs Gief though.
I agree with you Amrraed about Honda! I also have some other notes too!
