I could be wrong but isn’t the GGPO netcode GPL? I thought it was completely free. If so, why are developers so resistant towards it when fighting game fans have been so insistent?
Welcome to KOF.
It may have something to due with the developers worry that in the future the netcode might not be free, or perhaps since the stuff maybe considered “open source,” that hackers might be able to more easily change things in their favor/adjust things. There could be any number of reasons really, and I think legally they may be better off if they implement their own code in the games they develop, that way they have complete ownership over every part of the code.
Edit: Oh here, this may have something to do with it, from the GPL website, http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html:
“For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a fee, you must pass on to the recipients the same freedoms that you received. You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get the source code. And you must show them these terms so they know their rights.”
That’s probably why.
Yeah… I’m even getting lag from two xbox 360s playing against each other on the same internet connection. That’s kind of sad. If it doesn’t get fixed soon, I don’t think the game will survive.
Well uhhh, think about that for a second. Your network is competing with itself (since you have two xboxes on the same network uploading and receiving data), and then it also has to make a connection with a server some place else.
If you have played other games the same way (like sf4 for example) and if you haven’t had any issues it’s safe to assume the problem is with the server. If the same issue has come up before with other fighting games that use the same type of system as kof 12, it could be your internet connection, the servers you’re connecting to, or a combination of both.
If the QA Department where I work released this, this shit would have rolled back. Maybe if there were some real single player content this would be possibly worthwhile, but the fact that it’s so barebones and boring just makes this shelfware until they decide to actually do something.
What did the 750mb (ps3) patch I downloaded the other night do? Haven’t seen any difference.
It supposedly improved the netcode a bit and made the menus faster but also introduced new bugs (Raiden DM on Elizabeth).
Most of the patch for the ps3 is just what you should’ve installed anyway once you got the game. Kind of a waste if you ask me. They might as well just make a patch that forces you install from the disc rather than from downloading.
It’s def the game servers, with our 20mb home connection is, games like SF4 run blazing fast while playing other home network users. We’ve had as many as 4 xboxes hooked up for halo multi and have played with no probs
Didn’t the producer tell Shane in an interview that SNK was working hard on the netcode and testing it around the world and he said that it’d be really good…LOL man, what a slap to the face for Shane.
GGPO isn’t under GPL license (why did Capcom bought a license from Ponder in the first place, hello?). stop talking without knowing the facts
If they use the Blazblue network setup this game would be gold as that even surpasses GGPo since GGPO does have frameskip occurrences
That’s only for CPS3 games. All the other games on GGPO plays extremely well.
Edit: BB netcoding isn’t even close to GGPO’s. Don’t compare the two. If I decide to, I can play people in Uk without any delay or lag while on GGPO. BB? I can’t even play wc without lag and delay. BB netcoding is good, but not great.
100% truth. I love it when people with either incorrect setups or shitty PCs/net come on here and act like GGPO ain’t shit. It’s hilarious. GGPO is the best, anywhere, hands down. Nothing comes close.
It’s two days old… and it’s been announced here multiple times already. They’ve actually made a new announcement since then.
Would be nice if the first post was updated.
Dear King of Fighters XII fans,
This week?s launch of THE KING OF FIGHTERS XII represents the culmination of four years of hard work to deliver a rebirth for the KOF franchise, but several key issues have arisen since its release that must be addressed. Rest assured that SNK PLAYMORE is fully committed to supporting the King of Fighters XII community by working to further improve the gameplay experience.
We?re pleased to announce that the next software update will address the animation glitch that users have encountered in which Elisabeth?s character sprite becomes ?frozen? for the duration of the round when the character Raiden performs a specific move on her.
While software update solutions are being devised, we can offer some tips to those users who are experiencing exceptionally poor online performance. First, we suggest limiting the number of players in a room to two, as the addition of a spectator with a slow connection can currently create latency for all users in the room. Also, if your Internet connection is configured behind a firewall using NAT Type 3, we recommend reconfiguring your setup to utilize NAT Type 1 (for PS3) or an ?open? setting (for Xbox 360).
Also, we?d like to take this opportunity to explain one feature of the Xbox 360 version. When playing online with the Xbox 360 version of KOF XII, players who continually battle the same opponent in multiple Ranked Matches in the same lobby will not receive additional True Skill Rank Points. This is an intentional decision to keep players from abusing the system to reap massive rewards by preying on one player. If you want to earn True Skill Rank Points, you must make a new room or leave simply leave the room and come back.

the “new” update since that thread was made
Where do i find this ‘open’ setting on 360?
I would love to know as well. I looked everywhere!:crybaby:
Edit: I found out how!
