You’re… kind of contradicting yourself there. Most of the stupid things people are talking about aren’t what defined the series at all, just unreflecting folks confuse the side bits for the main show.
What defined the franchise:
Simple rules with diverse applications as compared to a mess of little rules.
A Simple Open Combo system
A really really really good license.
Things that didn’t:define vs series:
TOD combos/infinites
runaway for meter
double snap (remember how bad people bitched when they found out that was gone?) and comperable bad bugs (I’d include DHC glitch in this one).
Edit: With hindsight, TAC kind of goes against the first defining aspect I listed. Weird little subgame with large consequences and weird specific rules is an anime game thing not a vs thing.
Why exactly is runaway a bad thing in Marvel? That tatic even exists in MVC3 as an character like MODOK can spend over 20 seconds burning meter, and runaway from XF3 character. That would make X-factor comeback less powerful because you could runaway with meter. I don’t think people want a stupid good comeback mechanism that you can’t beat. Even if Runaway got popular in Marvel it’s impossible for that tactic to be invincible. Tracking Teleport, infinte height pillars, Stalking Flare, Graviton, homing projectiles like hidden missles, etc would begin down that character who is running away.
So why not encouraged tamed meter whiffing?
It would help Keepaway, and other characters because they don’t have to get in to gain meter.Runaway is encouraged, but it helps Keepaway a lot. The number one reason why rushdown have a bigger advantage over keepaway is meter. In this game, rushdown are the best batteries in the game.
I don’t think meter building from whiffing attacks is ever going to be in the game as long as Phoenix exists.
Even Skullgirls has strings attached to how you can build meter on whiff. If you run away while whiffing attacks you’ll never build meter, but you will build meter if you’re neutral jumping or jumping towards your opponent and whiffing attacks. And once you build your first meter, you’ll never build meter on whiff at all.
It’s not going to hurt the game anyway because too many characters can catch a runaway character. There is many attacks in the game that catch people at infinite height. They also created a Special and Super restriction to prevent runaway shenanigans.
That’s really just another way of saying that you have morals on how you want your game to play. Meter Whiffing isn’t a broken tatic, it exist in less retarded games such as SF4.
its not a moral aspect at all, negative styles of play are destructive to the life and popularity of the game.
HIgh and uneven mobility + meter on whiff = boring playstyles, and that’s bad for the game because it frustrates players and bores spectators (and bores players).
I could understand that you might not want it because it would make Phoenix too good, or Morrigan’s meter building assist would be useless. I don’t see why this play style is a negative anymore than people whining about spamming.
meter on wiff is a 50/50 deal imo. the good thing bout it that it adds more to the zoning strategy game and its a safe way to build meter then rushing down your opponets. the bad thing about it is that meter on wiff is really character dependent. some characters move will build more meter then others and it will cause problem when you got assist like haggar/tron/ akuma/etc to back you up. for mvc3 i don’t think it’ll work out too well.
this isnt english class and i dont care about grammar, nor run-on sentences on the internet… elipses to extend this sentence combo into your next “argument”
obviously… which is why i stated only one tac per combo, and why others have stated them to take a meter to initiate… personally i like the one tac per combo rule just like the ground bounce rule… and maybe only a *partial *reset of hitstun scaling (loooong combos being a norm would be bad imho) dont want to turn half the characters into dantes/zeros.
also… that “infinite” you are talking about is obvious… i know i already stated that… but seriously why bring up elementary 2+2 shit here? you really think something like that would see a final build?
No air exchange
Remove x factor unless it’s modified to roman canceling, fadc, etc
Lower damage across the board except for characters who can’t do any damage currently
