Ibuki Critique Thread ver.2

Add my Skype: MingoDynasty
and/or Facebook if you want.

from what ive seen of him hes definitely a solid player, has good decision making… other than that i didnt see anything to special from him… but this was like a couple of months after super came out that i saw a few vids from him.

also, NY hypes everything so theres always a grain of salt to take from their comments. still if i were to play him i wouldnt expect to be playing a chump, not in the least.

i always thought clakey was the best ibuki in the US which his win versus sako cemented in my mind and i havent seen anything to make me think otherwise… dragongod could be better but… he needs to get out there and show it imho, cause at this point with clakey basically being retired, there are alot of people that “could” be the best ibukis in the states… its not really a highly contested position.

Getting one win in the Ibuki mirror match does not automatically make you the best Ibuki in the U.S.

i didnt say it did.

getting 2 wins in the ibuki mirror versus the best ibuki in the world, in a tournament doesnt hurt your prospects though.

not like i said i thought he was better than sako, which i dont. but wins count. clakey proved that he was on sakos level fundamentally if not executionally.
also, clark has beaten justin wong in tournament as well. in fact i’d say that hes by far the most accomplished US ibuki as far as tournament placings go.

or do you have someone else in mind? who?

lol

I don’t have anybody in mind, but remember that Street Fighter is not a single-match affair. Beating Sako once, who cares.I could beat a bunch of gdlk players once, I’m extremely far from their level.
As an example, Izuna beating F-word doesn’t make him the best Ibuki in the UK. The only way we can see this stuff is to see how they act in tournaments, against a wide variety of opponents
Another thing is, there is not a lot of strong Ibuki rivalty in Japan, except Sako/Iyo, so they both are not really used to this matchup - you are able to surprise them if you have a different playstyle with your Ibuki.
Anyway, does that mean that the best Ibuki in the US is Mingo? =P

Not going to judge Clark based on his win against Sako. Sure, it was awesome, and he earned it by doing the same shit Sako did to him, but it doesn’t cement him as the best. What does it for me is by the fact that he places fairly consistently at the weekly WNF tourneys, whenever he does show up and shake off the rust, and he handles a variety of matchups extremely well. I don’t see many other Ibukis doing as well as he does in the States. Occasionally Gabe (Thrillhouse) gets top 5 at WNF.

DragonGod isn’t a scrub, but he’s not impressive either. He does some fairly reckless stuff at times that doesn’t make any sense.

Mingo is a good Ibuki, of that there is no doubt, but as far as I know, he doesn’t really attend any weeklies or majors that showcase his talent on a regular basis.

Mingo is a troll.

Exactly my thoughts. It’s also amplified when you’re playing a coin-flip character like Ibuki.

Isn’t Gabe from NY, while WNF are hosted in SoCal?

My Ibuki is probably terribad, though I think I could be a lot better if I had no life and played SF all day and only SF all day, like what many top players seem to look like (hello Daigo). Seriously, do any of these guys even have jobs?

Trying not to go on a tangent but I respect players that are good at the game with minimal investment more than players who are good at the game because they obviously put their entire lives into the game.

Corrected. Poongko always looks like he just got wasted or he didn’t sleep for days/weeks.

Also, me gusta.

As far as I know, Gabe is from Socal. I see him there pretty often whenever I hit up WNF, he’s definitely a Super Arcade reg. I’d be surprised if he actually resided in NY. Maybe he used to? I’ll find out next time.

It’s no surprise that the top players are those who invested the most amount of time. You never see any top player in ANY sport just playing their game recreationally. All the talent in the world will only take you so far, unless you become a genius of hard work. That being said, some players are able to play certain games irregularly and still place top 8. But these are usually players who have been in the FGC for such a long time, that they’ve developed their fundamentals at such a high level, and have such great intuition for a game, that they’re able to pick up new games very quickly.

Still, you should show up to a major one of these days. It’d be interesting to see how well you’d do. Hell, come to Evo. I’ll be the guy trolling around at the ST section, while occasionally commentating, and/or hung-over.

You reminded me, I still need to make that Ibuki-troll face avatar for my picture. Too lazy to do it now. Bleh.

That’s because he is always wasted. Him and GamerBee got SO fucked up at last year’s Evo, I’m amazed he made top 8. The dude was barely conscious when I talked to him on Sunday morning, lol.

Side note: Fuudo is top-tier at drinking. WITHOUT DOUBT a contributing factor towards his success at Evo '11.

Maybe I was wrong. I was just guessing.

When I went to MLG Providence, a 16 year-old kid took 1st place in SC2. Not exactly the same game as SF, but I would argue that the competition is seriously stricter as 90% of the players there are Korean, sponsored, and pretty much play for a living. In case you don’t know who this true prodigy is (not like Noah; he’s a fucking fraud and niggas need to stop riding his dick), his tag/name is Leenock and he plays Zerg.

Totally would if I had time/money. Despite gaming being my true passion, I decided long ago that it doesn’t pay very well and doesn’t really bring in the ladies so here I am in college.

If you happen to do it, make sure you do it while Ibuki is about to do a kunai vortex; like have the opponent be in an untechable knockdown after Neckbreaker or something.

Pretty impressive feat for a 16 year-old. SC2 is serious business, I wouldn’t surprised if there were 12 year-olds tearing it up in Seoul. But then again, the average SC2 players gets paid like $100k a year…soooo…

Noah has got talent, of that there is no doubt, but he’s hardly the second coming of Christ. Not to mention that his parents, or agents, or whatever his support group is, are trying to tout Noah like he’s the next Tomo. They only post match footage of him winning, even against that exhibition match against Tomo, he never shows up to locals, and rarely to majors. He’s less of a player, and more like a brand that they’re trying to promote. Worst part is, I’m sure Noah is just a regular kid trying to play the game.

Doesn’t bring in the ladies, but when did it ever? It’s all about the passion, about being a part of the community, feeling the hype of a crowd that holds the same interests you do, it’s pretty magical. It has, and will always be, more than just about just making money. At the grass roots level that is.

Speaking of troll face, I don’t have access to photoshop now, but now I do, I’ll be using one of these images. Which do you guys think is best?

Luffy & Evans don’t even play SF IV anymore (they are highly invested in KOF XIII, the also managed to place top 4 in the last major event in France), they just attend tournaments, and Luffy basically wins all of then with Evans placing in top 4. Geniuses.

I get top 8 at WNF almost every time I get the chance to join but I usually don’t have time to go. The sad part is that I go to school across the street. A few weeks ago I got third and had to beat Masarap, Hugo101, Alex Valle, and Mike Ross one after another. Unfortunately, it wasn’t recorded because the matches were off stream. :frowning:

I live in SoCal :stuck_out_tongue:

You do? :open_mouth:
San Francisco or something? I live in Daly City!

That explains why I haven’t seen you around in awhile. You usually do pretty well whenever you show up, which is pretty good, considering how difficult it is to maintain consistent tournaments placing with Ibuki, since a few mistakes in a bad matchup will end the night for her pretty quick.

Pretty stiff competition you had to go up against. Although I know Mike Ross absolutely HATES the Ibuki matchup.

What? How is San Francisco in socal? He lives near Super Arcade, around Walnut, CA.
