Im new to SF4 only been playing a few months and ended up play claw as my main…
i know im a noob but isnt claw meant to have the flaws…i mean isnt the whole point of him to mess with ur opponent and throw him off his game. im guessing at high lvl this is hard as good players are not easy to mess about…i donno just my 2cents worth
Anyone sill using a controller to play as pullin off vegas ultra withotu a stick is driving me nuts…so inconsistent i wana punish the fools tht jump randomly and constantly etc etc
vegas jabbing links are a pain with out turbo, i have a fightpad and whenever i need to play on a normal controller i cant do his lp links, good option is to just do cr. lp into ex flying barcelona
Lol, i totally missed this post. Sorry if i wasn’t impressed by a Vega mirror match when we were arguing if Vega is as weak as everyone think or not. And oh yes, i’m clearly an attention whore. I mean, just look how i spam this board every single day…oh wait.
Finally, tell me where i said that he’s a bad Vega, because i’m pretty confident that i’ve never said that. That guy has more than 10k BP while i’m even struggling to surpass 4k, so it’s pretty obvious that he’s pretty good, and for sure it’s hella better than me. But i still find that video pretty pointless.
ive played knuckles and trust me that video isnt a good indicator of his skill level, his vega is sick and anyone who really wants to step their vega game up should wait for more videos or play him, im an asshole and i dont compliment anyone so trust me on this one
Personally, I don’t really play Vega to be competetive any more. I play him regularly simply because he is so much fun to play, and the times you do win feels so good. But I don’t go in expecting to win or build my battle points up.
No matter what I try, I still get my arse handed to me regularly by jump spamming shotos and sagats. It’s incredibly frustrating that you can have great competetive matches against fairly skilled opponents playing “alternative” characters, and then get beat soundly by a jump spammer that obviously doesn’t have half the know-how of the guys you have competetive fights with. Just this jumping idiot with his big stupid foot that stuffs everything I have, even EX moves. Just jam up forward and hard kick and I’m up shit creek, especially if there’s even an ounce of lag. It’s bizarre.
So I was getting really fed up with Vega and losing, and the only way I could find to still enjoy playing him was to forget all ideas of being mr awesome. If I get too hung up on winning I just end up tearing my hair out. If I want to win, I’ll play Ryu. If I just want have fun and maybe get some really satisfying wins once in a while, I’ll play Vega.
Still love him though, and I’ll never stop playing him, just not a believer in winning consistenly with him.
Yeah same here about the jump spams, especially when there’s lag I can’t time shit, not even a jumping back rh.
I am using a controller and I still get the cr.lk -> EX Dive oder cr.mk -> EX Dive most of the time. J.hp -> cr.mk -> light roll is somehow still awkard though, only get it like 7 out of 10 times. I practised a bit yesterday and I did J.hp -> cr.lp -> cr.lk 3 out of 10 times. It’s too hard to pull off with a regular 360 controller. Not to mention that level 5 hard trials is totally killing me.
I’d probably be considered relatively scrubby with Vega, but I chose him because he fits my play style the best. I feel like I’m (slowly) improving thanks in large part to the advice on this site, and I hope one day I can become tournament-level competitive with Vega. Not to sound like an ass or anything though, but I find that complaining about Vega’s faults doesn’t help anything. At the end of the day if someone beats you, you shouldn’t be blaming the character you chose, but thinking of how you could improve. Honestly, it’s a bit annoying hearing this stuff like “this scrub beat me dude, it’s all because Vega sucks”. Not to be snarky, but isn’t it a possibility that you just played poorly that match and didn’t use Vega’s strengths to your advantage? I realize Vega has flaws, everyone has, but there comes a point where you just have to accept them, move on and improve. That’s my mindset anyway.
Don’t worry I actually read through the whole thing, and I’m not bashing you personally so much as this whole “it’s not me it’s my crappy character” mentality. Besides, I can understand the frustration as Vega has some obvious disadvantages, and that coupled with my relative scrubbiness leads to some irritating losses. But that’s my fault, not the handsome spanish ninja’s.
hey dreadz knucklez said you play a mean claw, you mind if i add you on xbl to get a few rounds in, it seems like every claw i play has a tottally different style, its actually pretty cool how much variance vegas game can have
I’m sure this is the same but for me my Vega has been about incorporating moves and strategies into ‘muscle memory’ - when I first started playing Vega I never used ST, RCF, air throw, throw, throw on jump whiff, or FA’s, or even backflips.
Over time I started gradually incorporating all of those into my game although I’ve noticed I tend to slack and forget one aspect while I work on another at times.
Same thing here. Alot of times I’ll forget to air throw because I’m focusing heavily on another aspect of Vega’s game. I’m getting better at this though.
you just suck with him. his damage is fine. utilize his speed more. df+rh is your friend; USE IT.
if it were only ONE thing i’d change about him it would either be give his EX flip kick an invincibility frame or allow his EX fba to absorb one hit before the dive.
seriously his build is near fine. L2zone properly and don’t always anticipate that you’ll land an izuna drop (probably the biggest problem with all n00b vega players). i swear ppl expect to land it EVERYTIME they attempt it. like every other move, its utility is SITUATIONAL.
If you seriously think ‘Vega is fine u just suck with him’ you’re an idiot. There’s a reason he doesn’t even show up in JP tourneys and nobody even bothers trying to work him anymore.
There’s ‘disadvantaged’ and ‘don’t bother even trying’ - Honda, for example, is the former. Vega is the latter.
To say Vega is bad because he doesn’t show up in Japanese tourneys is a little much. Now if you played in those tourneys then i would agree with you and advise a change. Chances are though you don’t and Vega is more than fine for xbox live play. It is true he is one of the “bad” characters in this game, but he is more than just workable and has some options. No one is putting a gun to your head and saying play Vega there are plenty of good characters to choose from.
