If they can counter your FBA before you reach them, that means you’re not timing it right. It’s like if Sagat throws a tiger shot while you’re standing in his face: it’s easy to punish.
What you need to be doing is setting up the perfect ‘rhythm’ for Izuna dropping, when you will ALWAYS reach them in mid air BEFORE they manage to hit you out of the dive, so you can either grab them, or slash early, stuffing their’ normal.
The easiest way to do this is to simply knock them down.
I see what you’re saying, but that’s really easier said than done. I’m just not convinced that the Drop can make Vega a top tier character given he lacks pretty much everything else. Give him an overhead and decent anti-air and yeah, he gets better, but not on the strength of the Drop alone. Agree to disagree, I guess.
@Kentaro: Reiketsu lost every set. And did you see how Daigo was playing lol
That was really the reason for Vega to win that round. ROUND, mind you, he didn’t win the set.
Reiketsu literally got OWNED for free.
I just wanted to bitch about it because I lost to a good Sagat yesterday. I didn’t expect so many guys to answer me, Riz.
I was thinking… maybe this subforum needs some kind of platform where we can constantly improve our Vega skills by playing against each other. So it’s basically mirrors, and our goal is to level up the inexperienced ones - veterans will surely learn something from it too. We need some kind of thread where everyone who needs a sparring partner can quickly post and get one
And after the matches, the more experienced player can give some advice, if he hasn’t done so before already via headset
This has little to nothing to do with this thread but i wanted to ask the question here anyway instead of starting a whole new thread. Who do you think the best U.S. Vega is? Neorussell? Bebop? Tatsu (is he u.s.?)? Maybe even Knuckles or Agent Hoy (U.S.?). Just curious what people think. And i would love to do mirrors with people if they are interested.
I’ll try and add you guys as well.
Add me. My XBL is KentaroFA
hi im just popping in since i have friends who use vega (2 are good, one just sucks) and basically that’s vega’s biggest weakness. Unless you can get Izuna out with 100% accuracy you’re probably not going to get anywhere. I mean i use bison and all i have to do is get vega on the ground once and that’s the game right there. Vega doesn’t even really have any moves that will keep the opponent off balance, considering getting to the wall isn’t instant.
what they should really do is bring back the cage, and do it so the cage appears in every stage. it’ll be the best way to turle!!
sir i respectfully diagree. Vega’s ground game is awsome. I just finished playing this guy called Tvrm SHOGUN. and he has an excellent able and akuma. All of his shenanigins with Akuma didnt work. his mixups, resets, cross overs. none of them work when your defense is solid. Oh and his Able is just awsome oh my god. SO rush down happy with mixups and everything. this is how he played

the only diffrence is that he did able’s roll reset a lot more, FADC moves, more foward meduim kick, and constant pressure with linking lights, and tick throw setups. the first round with akuma he rocked me. (by the way his play style is a lot like edma’s. the first round he rocked me the second one i won. the third round he used able and rocked me. the fourth round i brough it back. and the fiffth round it went down to the wire. All you Vega players need to focus more on defense and stop trying to fucking land hits. Look at Mago’s sagat. when they get in close he just blocks untill he gets an oppening and then hits. sure vega doesnt do as much damage, but you will countuniusly loss rounds if you try to mash out cr.mp in a block string. just stop it, and play smart.
Guys, most of Vegas’ matchups are considered either 4-6 or 5-5, both perfectly winnable rates. 4-6 is pretty much balanced, with some room for skilled play to overcome that very small gap.
He only has two 3-7 matchups, and that’s against Sagat, the top rated character in the game, and against Blanka, who we all know is a bad match. Even Zangief has two 3-7 matchups. True, Gief also has alot of matchups in his favour too (mostly 6-4’s), but it just goes to show that even a top tier like Gief has bad matchups.
I have a feeling most of you guys just aren’t playing him right yet.
Vega’s not that bad. Yeah, he’s not EL FANTASTICO, but he’s not abysmal either. Don’t drop him yet. He’ll probably be even better in Dash.
Agree. I’ve been wondering how they made these tier lists compared to other games. Vega has a pretty average matchup list. i feel like ppl just didnt feel like testing things and gave him avg numbers cuz they got lazy.
It’s not hard to get away, U just gotta block and be ready to tech a grab. the only 7-3 i think there r on vega should be blanka and honda, maybe sagat. Bison at least cant camp for the whole match and is pretty easy to punish on all his specials (except the lk knees).
yeah…but no bison should be spamming any specials other than lk sk. Also…Bison’s st.RH just likes kills vega from doing much of anything other than cr.strong.
Vega vs Honda is 5-5 - Vega can dodge most of Honda’s offense easily and can avoid mixups with backflips. Maybe 6-4 at the worst if you’re really taking into account exactly how badly Vega sucks, at which point most of his matches would be around 6-4 (and most people just guess 5-5 because they don’t know any better)
