Some people love to argue, even if there’s really no rational argument. I still love using Vega. But I’m not delusional. I’ve mained every tier of character in various fighting games, with lots of low-mid tier character experience, and I say Vega truly is as close to not being viable as you can get. I say, “as close,” because SF4 is still a baby, but I seriously doubt anything is going to change.
…and many others who enjoy using characters that are recognized by the sane community to be weak. But you’ll never see any of those names win anything consistently with their characters, no matter how amazing they are. Why is that? It’s because the same reason you already know: the character’s (ie. SF4 Vega and 3s Twelve) weaknesses make them harder to win with. Yamazaki is fucking amazing and no one can argue that. But I’ve felt the dissappointment of seeing him lose matches against people I felt were not as skilled as him PLENTY more than I’ve seen him win.
A quick example: other characters in this game can make big mistakes multiple times in a round and still manage to win. It happens a lot, especially with the tops like Sagat. The player using the better characters don’t have to worry as much about those mistakes and the damage the punishment occurs. A Sagat player can guess wrong on a few tiger uppercuts (no FADC) and not have it affect him that much. A Vega player can’t go around throwing out guesses. A Vega player has to be worried if he simply gets knocked down ONCE (if you’re playing anyone good). If you haven’t noticed this fact, you either haven’t paid enough attention to your matches, or you aren’t playing anyone really good and smart. Vega just gets no mulligans in this game. Sessions against good players are extremely mentally taxing.
PS: I wouldn’t even put a Necro player in this argument since Necro in 3s has a lot more going for him relative to the SF4 character this forum is dedicated to. If you must make comparisons between games, I’d say 3s Sean has more going for him than SF4 Vega does. But let’s not start that debate. :looney:
Moronic? your bitching about a character you CHOOSE to play. I have no idea what you are reading where in there did i say Vega is fine? I said he was workable and don’t base your play off pro tier lists.
You want a list of what he needs? How about invincible frames on ST, being able to juggle a jumping opponent with ST to Ultra, and no animation on super. It wont happen though so Vega is Vega, shit i don’t even play him anymore because he sucks. My point was just saying he is “workable” which is not saying “lol u just suck Vega is fine.”
@Rizhall - ? Im not saying anything no one doesn’t know. Vega is a weak character in this game. Thats just the way it is. Is theory important? Yes, but the theory can only take you so far. I’ve seen some amazing japanese Vegas but he is the type of character that will hinder the players skills becasue of the tools that he has. You can be great with him sure, the theory will help with that but at the end of the day Vega has loads of issues and everybody just has to make their peace with that in their own way.
I just call it as I see it. Vega sucks but I really enjoy playing him.
Also it doesn’t mean lets just start talking crap about Vega and this and that… and …lol I come on here to take stuff…lol what stuff? Vega is simple. On top of that I’ve contributed to the cammy faq in the match ups.
You are out of your element.
Finally, yes I have some old videos of Champ. matches that have been uploaded and I recorded them. Check them out here.
Wether you think Im good or bad is irrelvant to the discussion at hand. Vega is weak and if you don’t get this concept yet then you are lost. I would suggest reading Bebops post about quiting Vega for serious play.
that being said, I rarely complain about him. Its just the end of the stick he got handed in this game. Hes fun but its a fucking uphill battle that blows hard.
Its simple, if you like him play if you dont, dont.
I play a character I like I dont give a damn if hes considered the worst character in the game(whether it be true or untrue), I have fun playing him. Sure every game I play to win, but I do it with a character I want to play, thats where playing to win begins with me, it doesnt start at the character select screen, if that were the case everyone would choose ryu or sagat.
Also consider these things. I understand if you intend to compete in tournaments and become recognized within the pro community, then by all means choose a character that offers you a better opportunity to compete. IF the answer to that is no, and online and maybe some local tourneys are going to be the extent of your street fighter career, then just friggin choose a character you like and play the game. So many people here concentrate on tiers and choosing the best character possible that are never going to play SF outside online, you’re never going to get recognition for your play so who gives a damn who you choose to play.
Shit talker? I haven’t seen you online once. I usually only go on during the night. If you’d like to set something up, I’d be more than happy to oblige.
they should just change vegas ultra all together! instaid he should grab the oponent, take them to a fancy restaurant, charm them up making them feel special, followed by a moonlit gondola ride…after the night is done they should go up to his loft for some whine and fancy chease…and when the moment is just right… they get izuna droped off the terrace!..it does 500points dammage and breaks the oponents heart!
I play Vega damn well by now, or so I like to think. You wouldn’t think it but Vegas’ normals are actually very good zoning tools. I push alot of my opponents back into a corner just using st.mk, st.fierce, st.rh and cr.mpxxlp-rcf. And when they’re in the corner they just can’t get out. Vegas’ st.rh makes sure of that, coupled with smart use of st.fierce.
There is a reason why no one who mains Vega wins tournaments. Just like there’s a reason why you see the same people make it to top 8 in tournaments. I love playing Vega as much as the rest of you guys, but I’ve also come to terms to know that he’s definitely not tournament viable. I mean, it’s equally clear throughout the SF4 community that Vega is low tier. Even if you make the argument that tiers are really just a bunch of hot air, you have to face the facts that Vega’s move attributes aren’t as strong as many other characters. You don’t even need to go far for the proof. Just look at this whole Vega subforum. Half the posts are about “help me out against this character!” or “what can Vega do to counter these situations?!”. I don’t mean this statement in a condescending tone, but for those that feel like Vega is so strong, put him up to the test, win some tournaments, gain some rep, and really put him on the map. Otherwise, you can’t really make the argument that he’s up there with the big boys. My two cents.
oh shit i just noticed, but the way i see it that move is really situational. you have to be cornered, and the way i see it, is that if your in the corner…why not just block, look for the grab and a way out. Dont poke him. Its nasty damage, and its real tempting to throw a c.lp, but its not worth it if he can pull this shenanigan of on you.
Actually, galactic tornado pushes you back pretty far, and the range at which the ultra will land fully is decent. You don’t actually have to be cornered for this combo to work. You just have to be close enough to the corner.
I now the range is insane. But im used to people just not doing it unless there is a 100 percent chance of it landing. The only time I see Ultra midscreen against me is EX Messiah Kick FADC Ultra or S.RH Ultra
There’s also jHK into ultra. jHK is surprisingly fast, and seeing as most of your antiairs involve jumping… It’s tough, but you have to make sure you don’t mess up your timing on your antiair at all.
Btw Rizhall I think I got lucky and gayed you out of a few of our matches earlier today. With the lag it’s really tough to pull out some of the reversals and whatnot, or react properly, and Honda hits hard as hell when he gets lucky.
Of course, you would have won by a landslide if Vega didn’t suck so much - being able to simply FA the wall dive is pretty cheesy shit IMO.
