I can't believe what I just saw. (Shady Tournament Stuff)

That sounds about right. That explains Webster’s reaction to the situation and it also agrees with NerdJosh’s and Humbag’s side of the story. The match should have ended when their team won 2-1.

The friends in question all reached top 8, so I think it’s safe to assume this was done at least to some extent (which is basically what regional seeding is).

lolol What the hell? I’m glad Utah Yugioh isn’t like this.

On one hand you have people wanting fighting games to blow up and get exposure.

On the other you have people rigging brackets and bending rules.

Pick one.

Didn’t Mr. Satan rig like 8 of those tournaments?

This is where I feel the problem lies, Justin saw the draft before top 8 started and had no problems with it but when it changed he complained, now I’m going to assume the change was made without any influences, if so, then there should be no complaints as that draft was not final.

By Justin asking for the opponent he had on the draft (which was not final), he is in fact PICKING to fight that opponent. This is why it ended up that way on the stream, the TO had changed it (without any influence) and Justin wanted it the way he saw on the draft, i.e. “Justin wants to fight so and so”

Double post

I just wanted to bring in attention what happened to me during pool play from PU2011

First off let me say that Min everything is cool all is forgivin

OK…basically I was in winners finals In my pool and I had to play PR Balrog and I was told that it would have to wait till after Mk because they wanted it on stream…so I said OK and took a breather and relaxed for a little…after about 2 hours I get called by my pool runner that someone Misreported there match and that I.would have to be taken out of winners finals and put back in semis which I was not OK with but told that there was no.other alternative…after I played my match I ended up losing And then losing again and eliminated from the tourney…I worked my ass off to get to winners finals and then only to have it taken from me…and we was so far in the brackets that Derrick was already eminated from the tourney And then he was brought back and made top 8 when he didn’t deserve it…about a hour later or so alierus came up to me and gave me my entry fee back because he said he felt bad…one thing tho…why couldnt i just stay winners finals And you give Derrick legend and michealangelo there money back? But nope…of course it was not possible when I bring it up bit you can take me out of winners finals? OK
Just next time hopefully you find a different alternative to things like this instead of giving me my money back…and I was not the only one who had problems And was refunded

Considering how much steam the Fighting Game Community has been gathering since the initial release of SF4, and how streams, sponsors, and companies are getting much more involved with the community - both tournament organizers and players really need to step up the reinforcing of rules. This goes for everyone, longtime pro or new blood.

Everyone wants the scene to grow and expand. This is only going to happen if things stay legit. New or unknown players are going to be less inclined to participate if they think they are going to get unfair treatment. The only way the community is going to stay fresh and expand is for new players to come out and prove how good they are - everyone knows this. Seeding early on in tournaments isn’t the problem, the problems we have seen in the past two years all stem from unclear rules, double standards, and player bias in the final rounds.

And honestly, what I want to see is respect. If you are a good enough player to warrant having a sponsor, then you know what? Take the time to make well written posts and tweets. Take the time to not talk like children. Take the time to prove you deserve your sponsorship. We know that you can play well - that is easy to see, but attitudes and articulation are in dire need of improvement from a lot of the “big name” players.

Everyone wants the community to grow and improve, but that has to happen across ALL levels: organizers, pros, unknowns, and new players alike. Rules need to be set and enforced, and players need to be sure of the rules before getting into anything. It is the only way to go forward without looking like a bunch of clowns who just make up rules as they go.

EDIT: Argument rescinded. I was wrong.

If you dq all the top players then you get less than average finals but I agree the rules should be impartial. Do you guys remember when Wolf used the no pause rule to take a match at CBB4 and then he got clowned on by some of these guys. All he was doing was sticking to the rules. He should have been commended for that. See what happens when you don’t stick to the rules…

As far as the TO, Osirun ran a good tourney but he can’t be everywhere at once. I’m sure he trusted that these guys were sticking to the rules which were posted prior to the tourney. Congrats to the Humbag for being the real winner.

This is not Noel’s fault it was whoever was placed in responsibility to make sure the rules are enforced. Maybe his team did try to take advantage of another team then someone should have stepped in and said no. Although if they try to subvert the rules then that’s still messed up.

I guess sportsmanship is not prevalent among some of these guys.

I’ll just leave this

yeah thanks for posting itz andre

and shoutouts to you fools for making a mockery of osirun’s tournament

If a person doesn’t know how to run a bracket, then why would he be doing so at a major… and why did andre get the shaft instead of PR Rog?

On the one hand you have people making legitimate arguments and on the other hand you have people making posts like this. I know which one I pick.

This. It was clear it was 2/3
Quick Summary

  • OmgitZChun got screwed
  • Derrick was already eliminated but brought back, weird but If I was Deriick I wouldn’t have said no
  • Justin ask to face the opponent that was on the DRAFT version that he saw first hence the quote from stream “Justin wants to fight so and so”
  • TO got confused and asked spooky for help with no mention that Justin wanted what he saw on the draft but it doesn’t change the point that spooky made, “you shouldn’t let him pick”
  • It should have been 2/3, no questions asked

Don’t forget Justin obviously throwing matches at the end of the tournament. (MVC3 losers finals, not sure yet what happened with SF4, but I heard it happened there too… you’ll have to see for yourself)

There shouldn’t be anything wrong with a TO playing in his own tournament. Though, at a major, I can see why it would be a bad idea. As long as the first round in a bracket is as regionally unbiased and as random as possible (if the brackets are unseeded OR provided seeding doesn’t get fucked up), then anything that happens afterwards is and should be game on. /math. Fuck all else.

I blame TOs. Not the players. A player can say and do whatever, or act however they choose. Saltiness happens. Comes with the territory of competitive gaming. TOs job to handle it. If it’s within the confines of the rules I’ve laid out, I don’t care how much you complain. If it’s ***not ***within the confines, then GTFO. In either scenario, someone was dumbass enough to pay, and give themselves a 0% chance of winning anything out of it.

The reason for this thread, and for any experience posted here isn’t because these situations have, and will end up occurring, at any tournament. It’s because these situations aren’t handled properly by those who are supposed to be qualified to do so.

The person who DQ’d that guy for complaining was TheArkayne

How come random guy gets DQ’d for complaining and when other people do it the tournament rules and brackets get changed?

I was going to add that in, (seriously? Phoenix on point? I know he has the ability to troll but thats a bit questionable) but I’m sure he won’t do that again in a serious competition. It doesn’t help that it was against Noel, (I actually don’t mind Noel, I know he gets emotional but he seems like a kl guy) smooth viper’s video bitching about how they are “buddies” (he used a harsher word than that) doesn’t help either, it just makes that match seem more shady

Saltiness != Lack of integrity. Your competitive spirit should never push to override a set of rules underhandedly, or push for picking an easier match. A TO can enforce the integrity of its tournament (which it wasn’t, unfortunately), but you can’t enforce player integrity. When top players exhibit this behavior to a wide audience, it makes all of us look bad. Putting all the blame on Osirun is ridiculous.

and that matters why? Justin throws SSFIV all the time now. Should we call foul on players who like to play flashy too?

at least his complaint was more valid as he had to wait whereas Justin pretty much said I want was on the original draft, which I can only see as valid if the TO was influenced to change it but didnt osirun say he was still trying to regional seed them in the drafts meaning it was completlely fair the way it ended up
