I can't believe what I just saw. (Shady Tournament Stuff)

Hmm I don’t see why people are overlooking at the fact that the Bracket I saw had me vs Inthul. I really dont give two shits on who I fought, but if it was me vs Inthul originally, then I would rather play Inthul.

If you guys feel that for some reason I am lying because you guys do not like me for some apparent reason when most of you have not met me and only been watching streams or videos because I am “cocky” then I am sorry but clearly I am not.

I am probably one of the most nicest and humble guys out there so if you guys don’t want to believe me then I do not care.

All I am going to say is that there was no rigging at any part. All the top players at that tournament are my demons. I even had AIR in my pool. Did I bitch about that? NO… And I basically play him in every tourney and I always lose to him. Do you guys see me swindle my way out of that one? NO. I just simply beat him this time…

And for your guys arguments for me seeing the bracket, like seriously, Most of you guys have been to tournaments and when you see a TO or a person in charge running the bracket, your going to want to see. That is human nature. I am pretty sure all top players and non top players have done this before. I never had access to them while they were being drawn up, I only had access them when it was complete, and other players had access also not just me.

So pointing fingers on he said she said its just childish…

To be the best, you have to beat the best.

Or, err. Ask politely if it’s ok to not fight them.

This is in regards regards to seeding vs random bracket generation. I’ve never been to a fighting game tournament, but I have participated in tournaments in various sports. Some of the tournaments are seeded and others are random draw. I don’t think seeding rigs a bracket. Anyone can win at any given time regardless of seed. I don’t think there has ever been a tournament or a bracket that has pleased everyone. I can honestly say that the best team/player has won every tournament I have participated in regardless of how the tournament’s bracket was created. Great players/competitors win regardless of how the brackets are formed.

Yeah it’s pretty bad. At Philly regionals there’s usually a guy sitting at the door with his phone out, if the vender wants you robbed they’ll call/text him and him/his crew will follow you outside when you leave. It happens every time and no one says anything.

They’ve got goons who walk around the whole day looking for easy to grab bags and take them then sell w/e’s in them to the vendors. At bigger events where they know they won’t get caught they do snatch and runs. The real ghetto people from Baltimore (they play at Xanadu) do dirty shit like gang up on you and have a getaway car waiting. Another thing they do is turn out the lights in the room, have people grab shit and run out, and by the time someone manages to turn the lights back on they’re gone.

I’m ranting too much though, sorry lol.

So JWong, you saw a draft and the final bracket was different and you wanted to play the bracket you had seen, essentially? Is that correct?

this is some scary as shit right here. I’ll probably be having nightmares tonight, thanks a lot!

That’s basically the worry I have going on.
“You don’t wanna play so and so?! WTF?! Is that ok? Well, if it’s ok…”

However, I can’t help but feel we are not getting the full entire story from both sides (which to some, this is obvious, lol).

Welcome to the East Coast.

What about MVC3? The video (hopefully you watched it) shows that the match was suppose to be Jwong vs Floe but then it was switched to Jwong vs PR Rog. How do you explain that? Was the final bracket Jwong vs Floe and then someone changed it to PR Rog and you didn’t bitch about it or it was really Jwong vs PR Rog?

Yeah thats why the only time ny yugi heads go out of state is for regionals where shit like that gets blown up.

i can understand that you would intrigued by why your oponent changed, and its a shame that if you what you say is true, that this whole thing is being taken out of proportion, since it would be only a problem of misscomuniation that could be solved without devolviing in a drama
now my posts arent directed to you or the tournament per se but to the notion that there is a necesity to asure the top players to not play against them wich was a topic that poped up on this thread

This is the video, BTW:

What is the miscommunication?

  1. Osirun didn’t have a finalized bracket, but Justin learned his first match from it.
  2. Osirun changed the bracket unbeknown to Justin, Justin complains.
  3. Not knowing what to do, Osirun asks Spooky for advice.
  4. Coin flip

Instead of letting Osirun decide what to do and let it be, his influence ultimately determined Inthul as his first match. Sure, this may have been a lapse of judgement from Osirun, but it didn’t help that Justin was pushing for the first bracket.

darksydephil or marn is somehow responsible for all of this villainy

bet it

It would’ve been awesome, and a much shorter read, if people would’ve stayed on topic in this thread and focused on the events that happened at PowerUp 2011, instead of going into a dissertation on the pros and cons of seeding in tournaments.

What I want to know is if Jwong would have bitched if the bracket change worked in his favor. Like in MVC3 where it appears that he didn’t have to fight Floe “early” in top 8. In SF4, fighting PR Rog instead of Inthul was not favorable to him so “he would rather fight Inthul. (quote from the video)”

I’d like to know why he was so compliant to the switch in MVC3 (if there was one, waiting on Jwong to confirm) but not in SF4.

In all tourneys regardless of what genre it’s for, it’s up to the organizers to maintain the integrity of the tourney and maintain consistency to legitimize what they’re doing.

Using this situation to bash somebody you don’t know or know OF because you dislike them is silly and quite irrelevant to the above statement.

If you’re an up and comer at ANYTHING expecting to get the same treatment as somebody who as earned a name for themselves you’re delusional.

If none of you are aware that shady shit goes down during tournaments then you’re dumb. All there is to it.

Doesnt matter what A said to B

or what B saw D doing…

people are stupid/retarded and do sketchy shit all the time.

sounds like some miscommunication took place and that sucks :frowning:

For seeding be random or none existant thats hard to say. Look at the NCAA tournament this year. Tournament was seeded and had a lot of upsets eariler in the brackets which made it exciting earily on. But by the time the top 4 teams had been decided the level of skill shown in the games had wanned quite a bit and it wasn’t nearly as exciting as it was.

Basically it comes down to whether you believe that the hype for a tournament should be in the earily rounds or in the final rounds of a bracket.

That being said seeding can hurt up and coming players who may be trying to overcome a mental roadblock in their way to becoming champions in their own right. If they always face known top players in the earily rounds they might not get over the hump because they lack the mental discipline to progress further on. and we’ll tend to see the same players make the top 8 time and time again. By using random brackets those medium level players could possibly advance further in the brackets and learn how to deal with the pressure of playing of playing top 16 or top 8. Which could help create a more diverse group of players competing for the championships down the road.

Now which is better for our genre to grow? I think evo is starting to get on the right track with these point earning tournaments which lead up to the main tournament ala Evo. Basically get a regular season going where players can earn themselves a better spot in the final brackets at evo. Thats how its down in most professional sports. However lacking any real offical “regular season” in this genre though we’re stuck doing something similar to Nascar “sprint for the cup” series where drivers earn points in previous races which helps qualify them for the final at the end of the season.

But once that regular season is over, there shouldn’t be any other seeding taking place for the evo bracket outside of the points that people have accrued in previous tournaments that season.

Yeah, this stuff happens all the time, I wouldn’t be surprised. Some of it just got caught on tape and archived thanks to the stream.

If this shady shit “goes down”, then it should still be called out. The entire community loses face when shit like this happens, SPECIALLY in a TS stream with >10k viewers. It’s really not enough to just accept that these things happen and just take it. Thousands of viewers saw the whole mess LIVE, what would they think?

The concept of seeding for spectators enjoyment is bullshit. Imo random brackets, you play who you play.
