I can't believe what I just saw. (Shady Tournament Stuff)

NerdJosh says you guys agreed to the 2/3, you say you didn’t agree to anything before the start of the match. Which one is it? Why would you start a match without making sure you and your opponent knows how many matches are being played? This is even more important when the rules were changed for WF’s.

The FGC doesn’t know about East Coast YGO lol, Dark Prince is nothing.

seeding is fine only if its done by a measurable standard, doing it only because you dont want well known names fight earlier because its bad for the show, its not a reason, that its not by any means equall to seeding on skill, you are only making sure that the top 8 remains on the top 8
if people really want to seed based on skill then do what we do on other martial arts, use a ranking system in wich every player plays with other players on their same level skill

no surprise there

while somehow true, the tournament is for the players, giving advantage to well known players only because you want to save thir fights to the finals is just plain wrong, and so far that its the only thing that this kind of seeding is doing

Tennis has world rankings and a scoring system

Ah ha ha ha the stories I have. -laughs-

Also 2/3 was set in stone on the webpage all the way through to teams the only person to argue that LF was 3/5 was Noel. Webster agreed to it for some reason even though the webpage for PU clearly stated it was 2/3 up until GRAND finals.

The fact that you said nothing until your team had already lost was a HUGE problem. ABSOLUTELY FUCKING HUGE. This is why people are going hard about it. Period. Had you said something before the match it definitely would not be as big of an issue as it is.

Seconded. I’ve seen mad fistfights over YGO.

waits for someone to up the ante with knives or guns

Don’t get me started lol

I worked/lived in a card shop I’ve seen some shit -lol-

There has never been a legit tournament in the fg community where the set in winners finals is a different number of sets then losers so common sense just told me that both would be 3/5 since one of them was three out of five.

if you give special treatment to a group of players based only by their name to save them of playing between them only, while the rest of your tournament players dont recieve that kind of treatment, specially only because their fights would be more interesting for the stream of your tournament you are totally failing on keeping it fair for everyone, one thing is seeding based on player skill, but to begin with then you should run different tournaments for different skill levels or having a good ranking system like true sports instead of having to do subjective calls to keep your top players of being randomnized

can noel’s official tournament handle be changed from “noel fucking brown” to “noel, fucking bitch”

man up and take your free money with some humility.

Fruitryu has a lot of good points. It’s probably the best list of topics as far as keeping the discussion going as to this type of nonsense which was exposed at this tournament, and if this type of thing is more commonplace than the average joe blow competitor knows about.

As far as should tournaments be seeded, etc, that isn’t really what this thread is for and rather than filling up this thread with that conversation I think it would be best to move it to another thread. Thank you.

eh… what i’m trying to figure out is how can someone get like 13th or 17th (or kicked out for 2 weeks) at every local and then place at a major.

ONLY GRAND FINALS was 3/5 wf and lf were both 2/3.

This is what has to be done.

I’m not interesting in punishing folks, I just want there to be legit, professional standards for seeding and bracketing.

What I would do is simply throw out this tournament for EVO purposes, and make some standards for future tournaments.

I’m pretty mindfucked at the concept of draft brackets, much less draft top 8 brackets. WTF do you need a draft for? Are you sending it to your editor? It’s eight names and some lines, how do you fuck that up?

My take on the team tournament issue:

I was well aware of it supposed to be 2/3 for lfs (i watched the wfs and was wondering why the fuck they were doing 3/5). I was told from people that the two teams just decided to do 3/5 because there was no one nearby who had any idea what the official rules were supposed to be or whoever was incharge of the brackets had no idea what the rules were supposed to be.

Anyway, my team makes it to LFs against Wongs team and I started asking everyone “yo what is this supposed to be 2/3 or 3/5?”. We basically agreed that 2/3 was fine and bam we played. Fast forward to when we went up 2-1. Justin got up like it was over and so did everyone else. Keits was shaking my hand saying good shit etc. I sat back down waiting for GFs to get going. About a minute later Noel and his team came back saying we are supposed to play 3/5.

I said that it was horseshit and I complained quite a bit. We had agreed to a 2/3 (which was the official rules) and our team won 2-1. They claimed that since WFs was played 3/5 (which it shouldnt have been according to the rules listed on the powerup page) that LFs should follow the same number of sets. Now normally that would be fine with me but because I knew the rules were supposed to be 2/3 and we had pretty much agreed to a 2/3 before we played I was pretty fumed and lost my fire a bit.

I am not angry at Noel, he had a good point with it being 3/5 its just that the 3/5 played in WFs is incorrect according to the rules. In the end they came back and beat us.

This was just an issue with organization. At that point in the tournament when it is wfs, lfs, gfs someone who knows the official rules should have been present instead of volunteers like Webster (not mad at him he probably just didnt know and he wasnt even near the stream at the time) at the stream station.

Here’s some quick ones then:
-A homeless guy and a dog live at my card shop in Philly.
-During the Nats 08 thing Azn_Boy mentioned some guy was fucking people up with a padlock and a bunch of people got jumped.
-At a regional in a church basement these dudes wanted a table for home so they quick folded one up and ran out the door with it.
-A different time at that same place some kid payed a guy to pull a gun on my friend for a card (worth $800) he had, the guy was really dumb and told everyone he had a gun so he didn’t get shit from him and I’m pretty sure he got arrested.

Why would a legitimate team tournament have unofficial changes to the number of sets? The legitimacy of the team tournament should already be in question if going from 2/3 -> 3/5 was allowed in the first place. Making the number of sets symmetric has no meaning by this point. Josh took the initiative by confirming what were the established rules, and the assumption that it was going to be 3/5 seems to be only yours.

And there we go, everybody except YOU, Noel, was playing a 2/3.

Humbag - you have every right to be upset. After the whole ordeal, your entire team lost all momentum. I think making LFs 3/5 based on it being the ruling for WFs is horseshit, because the match was already DONE, and ONLY NOEL complained about the number of matches, and this was AFTER it was done. Even Noel’s teammates thought it was 2/3, so there definitely was consensus on this. There is no valid reason to UP the amount of sets in teams, take even more time on-stream (less time for other games or exhibitions), and extend a single match to 1 hour. I’m sure the vast majority of people would agree on this. The team tournament was already being treated as a joke with people taking jabs at the set on-stream saying that GF’s would be a FT10.

Why are you confused about the concept of a bracket being made before the tournament begins. By draft bracket he means, -the- bracket. Then some shit happened and a new -the- bracket occurred. 4 pools, 2 people won from each pool. An 8 person bracket needs to be made the next day with 4 in winners, 4 in losers. It happened and then something got said about it and then confusion occurred for no reason. In reality, no one should have said anything about the bracket in the first place. It just should have rocked the way it was. Osirun already pretty much laid it all out already.

Hell, draft brackets are not that uncommon right now! How many times have you seen a bracket posted online right before a major with the participants that pre-regged on it? They typically get altered a bit before the tournament begins. NEC did this.

Yours are pretty good damn absurd

  1. We had stickup teams who would ask to trade browse your wares and assess the value of your book. if you didnt have enough people with you they would just threaten you to take the book if you did have more than just you then someone who was with them would run by grab your shit and run toward the park. they would meet later some place else to divide your wares amongst themselves. the guys standing with you would point out that person as a thief who plauges the area and give you the card they offered.

  2. Dudes who carried razors to do stickups on yugi kids…didnt play the game at all. just knew there was money in it. (often associated with the stickup crews who knew the values)

Our spot was a real store and I was security for the most part so this shit didnt happen IN the store but it happened in the area.
