How to Stop Worrying and Love the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth - The Ultimate Doctor Strange Thread

Finally got off my ass and tried playing this game again. I picked up RR a week ago after seeing the video on how good the synergy was between them. Excited to see Yipes/Combofiend pick up Strange though.

Daggers L is really underrated. It’s the only projectile that can give you a fair chance (at least tha fairest you can have) in the Zero matchup. It’s the only thing that will track that little robot down and slow his offense for you to set up EoA and the other stuff

Trying to stay from well-known teams. I spend hours watching streams and the last thing I wanna do is play the teams I spend hours watching.
When I finally hit tournaments I wanna bring something new to the table. Not a low-tier team so to speak but something different than the Magneto’s and Vergirl’s we see in each tournament.

Right now I’m running Strange/Dante/Spencer. I’m thinking of changing Spencer with Joe and do some Shocking Pink -> RoR enders.

There is not a bone in my body that is going to pretend I have had any interest in Dr. Strange before today. I’ve been running Nova/Spencer/Hawkeye for a while now, but what I saw today made me grin from ear to ear. Thank you for the warm welcome to us “band-wagoners”. lol

From discussions 2 weeks ago about Strange winning a major, all I can say is,“That escalated quickly”

My problem with Strange on point is that I’m free to heavy rushers. I spend alot more time trying to run away than actually setting up a plan of attack.

Without a good neutral assist, Strange is free to rushdown on point.

At the beginning of the round, try to just get the fuck away.

Mystic Sword L/M, superjumping, and assists can help with that.

Still, under heavy pressure his flaws start to show. Try to set a grace on the screen somewhere in-case you’re getting heavily rushed down.

wow so all it takes is for some1 to do what some of us been doing from the start cool

Who here has been winning major tournament events with Dr. Strange?

Yeah, got it. Played a FT15 online against a friend of mine who runs Cap/Spencer/Iron-Man (same team as DoomBR, one of Brazil’s top players), and he recorded. He’ll render the video and upload it to his youtube channel. When that’s ready, I’ll post it here. I was getting used to PS3 online conditions as we played (I was a PSN guy on vanilla, but then got an xbox and never came back, not to play regularly) so I’m already apologizing for some drops and such.

But off the bat: Strange can be played on point with the right assists, but even then it is a real big-boy challenge not to get stomped by rapid-firing-buttons and endless rushdown. I hate playing on PS3, its on my lagged TV and the connection is not as good as the XBL at least for me, so I dropped a shitload of stuff, not to say that Iron-Man was unexistant. Even though, there are a lot of cool concepts about Strange’s neutral in that set, from setting up zoning to going in with frametrap-swords and teleport pressure. I could do some combos, some dumbed down version of the stuff I do offline, but even then sometimes I died due to an online drop, but I got the first hit, which we all know is everything Strange needs to take fools down. I also got 1 Krispy Kream (Iron-Man’s hardest BnB) during the whole set, which is actually ridiculous since it was under some heavy lag.

I think you guys will like it

aaaaand here it is!

Now that I watched it, some of the repulsor blasts I made didnt come out, and I ate some Captain America jump-ins :frowning:

edit: just saw the cover of the video, and I dont agree with it. He made it. I think our best Doctor here is Mazio by a large margin.

It’s online, it means almost nothing; your Strange is actually quite solid :D. Watched about 20 minutes of it, needs more DoD and Mystic Sword M; and a few more graces in the neutral as well.

Aren’t all of our offline Strange’s vastly superior to our online Strange’s anyhow?

Liked the good usage of Mystic Sword L as well, but try to make sure that it doesn’t whiff as often.

Through the set I went to Sword M and Daggers, Dreize. I just didnt use it in the start since I needed to learn patterns of rushdown. Not to say that Cap blows through every single thing, so I was scared. And the swords L were not whiffing, it was on purpose… I learned from watching Tenboss to just throw it out there. If it hits, the unibeam will lead up to jump wall-carry into combo…

Nice matches  i would only reccomend using more graces L in Strange neutral game. I play him sometimes in a retreat style where the other player go from corner to corner trying to get in and pass the traps/hitboxes but by that time ideally there will 3 graces L in the field, two in the corners, one mid screen, then mixup city. There were some nice combos, i am surprised you did those since its psn :stuck_out_tongue: heard the online code sucks even more than xbox live

I was wondering if you were whiffing them on purpose. Even though it is 0 frames on block, I was scared that Cap was going to YOLO hyper charging star through you, or Spencer was going to bionic arm your ass; haha :D.

Speaking of neutral game, we really don’t have a concrete idea of how Strange should be played in neutral yet; do we?

We all kinda do our own little thing, nothing seems to be set in stone. Obviously it’s very dependent on his assists at hand though.

I feel like it’ll progress into zoning patterns, near unblockable mix-ups, and interesting spacing methods.

Still, does anyone use flight in neutral? We have a damn tool that most characters wish they had and we use it scarcely.

Everyone else who has a flight has an airdash and they use it for movement around the stage. Strange’s flight startup is not only kinda slow he has no airdash to compliment it with. I’ve tried to do like a Knives/Bee incoming mixup where I use flight and go up really high then call an assist for ambiguous left/right, then teleport down to hit confirm. Of course my other 2 characters are IF and Spencer Slant so it’s not as effective as assists that are persistent like Akuma tatsu or Ironman repulsor.

I think I’ll make a video on zoning patterns with Missiles next. Should be relatively simple. I’ll try to make it as flowchart-y as possible for other scrubs like me.

I made this video for two purposes: first, we didnt have any record of point Strange as of recently (hence we always recall Ten-san’s set with his old team) so we needed ideas. Like Dreize told, we all have our on ideas regarding neutral, so it would be cool to put here each of our pieces of play with him in order to make everyone grow with good old Doctor.

The second was exactly for you guys to help me out with areas that I might be lacking or something like that. I have the last major of the brazilian season this weekend, and I need to fill any eventual gap that I have. It’s defying to play point-Strange, but I dont really care, just wanna have a good time, and see the look I saw on Comboman and the noises I heard from the guys that were watching our match at Treta everytime I killed Hulk with one combo.

@Dreize yeah, I was whiffing on purpose. If they went YOLO, I’d just do seven rings since the invulnerability on startup will eat their supers, xfactor and kill either of them. Specially Cap. Damn I hate that soldier.

So I was finally convinced to try Point Strange by a friend today. I thought about using Ammy/Strider behind Strange since he likes them both. Still trying to figure out some ways to abuse both assist.
