Bait and punish really, really hard. Whiff clap setups are great for this. Make them scared first. People tend to dp/reversal a LOT against Hugo because his mixups are terrifying.
What are you talking about? Super’s really versatile! Considering it can be linked from both his jab and his light kick and considering the RANGE on his jab and light kick you can do a ton of damage really easily.
I don’t know what the thinking was with this. It was a great reversal move in 3S. I think if this game gets a balance patch this is one thing that definitely needs to change.
Guy - ultra 2
Gouken - ultra 1
Bison - Ultra 1
Guile - Ultra 1
Honda - Ultra 2
Viper - IDK. not enough match up experience
Oni - Ultra 2
Vega - Ultra 2
Typically, for characters that don’t have great wake up options (like rose) i’ll go ultra 2, and for characters that NEVER jump and can keep you out for 99 seconds (chun li, guile) i go ultra 1
Super is good for punishing most fireballs at a distance. Imo outside of counter poke cancels, thats its function. So match ups like juri, poison, gouken, akuma. Super shuts down ground fireballs at 1/4 to 1/2 screen and they cant fadc to safety.
Anyone have any general tips on corner control against heavy fireball characters?
Ryu, E.ryu and poison are my biggest problems I think. there’s just a certain range that even when they are cornered it’s hard to get in on them when they just hold their ground and chuck plasma. Sometimes I can get in a sweep before they throw one out, but it’s hard to fight against the pushback once you’re out of range to use ST.HP
It doesn’t always hit… The slow down during armor seems to give many projectile characters time to recover. Punishes a lot but u really need to space it
actually anyone can recover in time after throwing a fireball. I had it block plenty of times. The only time it not block is if it done up close to mid range. but if you do it from almost full screen it can be punish even mid screen can be punish. all they have to do is throw your you or poke you out of it so it unsafe. Gouken palm can destroy all your moves though. I know man I’ve been grinding with Hugo since day 1
Yes. The question was asked if the opponent is in the corner what the options are. If the opponent is in the corner then they would be close or mid range and EX lariat would hit.
Okay, if I wasn’t convinced the Viper matchup was in Hugo’s favor before, I definitely think so now.
Hugo is so damn tall that he can SPD punish all of Viper’s air flame kicks unless she hits him below the chest, at which point you could easily react and AA her before it could come out.
I read in the front page that meaty HP clap OS EX BB beats Honda’s Ex Headbutt and Buttslam yet when I tried this in training mode I only beat those two options 1 out of 10 using the same setup, is there something I’m missing?
