  • I could not connect any medium attacks, if it is possible the timing is very tight
  • cr. lp/lk both work reliably, too far to connect lk lariat though. you’ll still deal more damage than rolento chips
  • st lk is too slow, and st lp goes over his head when he’s recovering
  • reversal BB or U2 both miss, Super is too slow

Punishing EX rolls:

  • he lands further away, so your jabs and cr.mp don’t even reach
  • st. mp is too slow ( or the timing is very tight )
  • cr. lk connects, timing is a little harder than non-EX versions.
  • reversal BB or U2 both miss, Super is too slow

Stuffing Non-EX rolls:

  • if he does it right in your face, you can react to his backflip and get a CH on him, but chances are he won’t be doing it in your face ( same is true for EX )
  • cr.mp, cr.lk, and cr.mk all work, but the timing is tough and trades do not go in your favor in terms of damage ( except for cr.mp )
  • best to just block

Stuffing EX rolls:

  • the timing much harder, the only things I could get to work were cr.lk and cr.mk, both trade in your favor damage-wise, but again the timing is still tough and you’re super prone to getting CH
  • best to just block

It would be really nice if other people could help create threads, you can only do two new posts per 5 minutes and I am at work :stuck_out_tongue:

I think this match will end up being a lot like ZangiefxYun but multiply the patience by 10 (Actually, that may be all Hugos matchups, but nothing wrong with patience!)
ST. HP of course helps but Yun has many armor breakers so you can’t really throw it out much when he’s on the ground, and the number one thing to look out for will be being whiff punished when Yun has 3 meters or more.
I think correct spacing with claps will be important for most non fireball character matchups

In match-ups I like I would put Viper, Decapre, Grapplers, and Ibuki. These are probably the ones I don’t really ever worry about.

And as I said in another thread vs Viper Hugo can do Cr.HK on her wake and it will beat most of her options.

thanks for the info I added it under c viper and credited you. Able is pretty useless with Hugo his ultra throw autocorrects for me when I tried to do Able mix up where he uses his roll to trick you on wake up.

We all know that hugo is incredibly susceptible to instant overheads. Whether they are like most instant overheads after a fuzzy or they’re on crouching hugo we’ll punish them.

U2 seems to work on block AND hit for a lot of characters. If someone ever does Jf instant overhead usually EX BB will punish it and it might require a hcb (from current position) to get the bb to come out. U2 will not hit a Jf overhead as they’re right above you.

General rambling:
DeCrap is really unsafe on a lot of her shenanigans and if you demonstrate that you have a good defence and know how to punish they’ll have no choice but to try to poke you. s.MK and s.HK are popular. cr.MK works really well against s.MK and s.LK xx clap works when counterhit fishing against s.HK.

I think the idea is to have a post for each character ( for “endless” discussion ) and then a master post which will link them all

I know this is a very hard matchup for Hugo, and I’m sure A LOT of people would like some help here, so I’ll at least add a few things I’ve picked up here and from experience to get some discussion going:

  • PLAY PATIENTLY; cannot stress this one enough. Mindlessly jumping in and careless EX lariats/meatsquashers will get you killed quickly. Remember all that matters is who wins over 99 seconds, not who kills faster.

  • Ultra 1 seems to be the best choice; a lot of her specials can be punished on block, and in this matchup you really want to get the most bang for your buck

  • Keep in mind she has a Backflip ( like Claw ), which as far as I know does NOT get grabbed by Backbreaker or U2 ( please correct me if I’m wrong about that but I’ve had no luck )

  • As far as pokes go, I’ve had much better luck just sticking to jabs and shorts, the MP’s seem to get beat out or whiff punished a lot, at least in my experience.

I know this isn’t much and both characters are very new so there’s a lot to still be discovered, but hopefully this can help a few of you guys not cringe when you see you’re going up against a Poison

EDIT: I should also say, we did this in the Gouken forums and the matchups no one wanted to discuss drop off the front page (yet can be found through the master thread easy as pie) and the ones people want to discuss have all of the relevant info for a single character in a single thread with no weeding necessary.

Two matches to get started

I personally really dislike this match-up because for some reason when I corner deejay I feel he fights better than other zoners there.

When DeeJay is in the corner, he really needs to commit to something on wakeup, and most of his options are unsafe or get beat by meaty pressure. A smart DeeJay will most likely just block.

It’s probably best to just let him wakeup and maintain footsie pressure keeping him in the corner. Not worth the risk to get over-aggressive when DeeJay really needs to work his way out ( like Guile )

I believe this is a pretty bad match-up that doesn’t involve projectiles. Hugo absolutely cannot afford to whiff anything.
