How the Tekken Community Feels about EVO

This thread is funny. Tekken 5.0 on PS2 in crap and boring to watch. Then again, the tournament isnt designed for any form of entertainment to people other than players. Cant a local arcade supply a couple of Tekken DR boards or do I have to bring both of mine out there?

even then, i doubt that you’ll be allowed to use them for “official” use. look at the CigarBob Super Turbo situation from last year…

I’m sure either are possible, it’s just not something the tournament itself is providing, what is provided, is an entire area for the players to organize such things, and if the DR people want to bring DR just email castel or a cannon or someone and i’m sure it can be worked out.

And that situation worked out extremely well for both evo and the ST players, so i’m not sure what the problem is.

I see your point, but the tekken community should provide at least some of the funding if they really wanted DR to be there.

The funding is called entry fee.

I thought that was the prize money.

so $10 x 200 (ideally) for tekken = $2000 = less than one cab (19 more needed), and no prize money… i’m not sure where this is going.

And where the hell are you getting your facts from about Tekken 5 on PS2 flopping? As far as I know alot of people in H-town including me own the game. Personally I think you’re wrong DR on PS2 will sell pretty well considering it’s a more balanced game than 5.0.

Entry fee as in Registration Fee…not money for the pot.

That is covered already…

Well, if the cost to rent a DR machine is reflected in the general entry/registration fee, that means it will affect everyone, not just Tekken DR people. Honestly, that wouldn’t be fair to the other people who don’t play Tekken DR. Maybe if the game fee was increased specifically for the Tekken DR tournament in response for DR machines, it would be reasonable.

Why should it be increased? Tekken DR is the standard for Tekken competition. It should be the Tekken game at any tournament by default. If you throw a big(the biggest) tournament make sure you have competition standard games. Except you’re more interested in saving money than you are in the quality of competition.

Add in, rental of a couple DR machines to the list of expenses. Or get a company to sponsor it if you want to save costs. Do whatever you must but dont compromise the quality of the event because of whats ‘convenient’.

Are there companies that actually do this?

buy psp,buy converter, buy tv link cables to TV.

FIN

yes.

When you wheel in a DR machine to replace all the copies of T5.0 the players got suckered into buying, then i’ll buy a change in the standard. Having the best players in a game that barely exists about is far from quality, it’s just a private club.

Nobody got suckered into buying anything. T5.0 was great for its time. And everyone who played the arcade and bought the console version later on made a good choice. The makers of T5.0 decided to make a better competition game to replace T5, hence T5.1 and DR. DR is better than T5.0. If you are a good T5 player, you are good at all versions of Tekken 5.
You think the competition standard is determined by how many PS2 copies are sold? very funny.

It’s really not about saving money for the EVO staff, its really considering what is within the budget for this year’s tournament. I am pretty sure the EVO staff thought long and hard about what to do with the Tekken 5 tournament, and this is what they chose that is within their spending limits. It’s easy to say, “Hey, Tekken should be the DR version”, but its a lot harder to put into motion when you’re the one paying for it.

A lot of the funding for EVOs come straight out of the Canon’s pockets. Also, the EVO staff doesn’t profit at ALL, in fact, they come out losing money to hold an event like this. $20 for EVO last year was a blessing considering the location (Las Vegas), the setup, and whatnot which was due to MLG. This year it is Toyota, but we don’t know how much they are fronting.

I agree with you saying that Tekken should be on DR arcade cabs, but you have to realize that money doesn’t magically appear from nowhere.

You want someone to sponsor the Tekken DR tournament? Hmm…Hey, how about Tekken Zaibatsu sponsoring it? Wouldn’t that be a great idea if they sponsored a Tekken tournament? There’s something about sponsoring that is hard. You can’t just assume that a company will fund something as long as you have their name plastered on a banner. They will want something in return. Last year, it was MLG hogging a lot of the screens to hold their Halo 2 tournament which ended up getting booed at the end of the weekend, and it was Tecmo taking up time to show Itagaki praise his own game (DOA4) while people were booing right at the girl who was giving the presentation.

Let’s say this. Both DR players and EVO staff do what they can to make it happen, but if it doesn’t, then work with what you have.

A list of expenses which isn’t covered already; I’m going to guess that the entry fee doesn’t pay for everything, especially in Vegas (if I’m wrong, feel free to correct me; FM, this means you :p). Add rentals and it’ll just compound.

DR will not be at evo unless Namco decides to port the game to ps2/xbox.

Evolution is a console tournament.
