It takes a good win rate to stay above 15K BP, but anything below that is easy to maintain.
yeah I know this too. I often won the first round against high pp players but then they just changed they style to herpaderp mode, mashing reversals in my blockstrings and doing nothing but tick throws where I often break down. kinda is my own fault if I can’t keep my strings tight, but it’s annoying though. players in ranked just do what they think they have to to keep their points, which often results in very disgusting matches. don’t wanna start talking about high point blankas, with most of the cast I don’t even know what to do against them.
It has to do with so many factors though:
- does the player play much ranked?
- where is he located? does he have enough competition at hand?
- does he use multiple characters of varying skill or is he a character specialist?
- etc.
I myself only use Gen 100% of the time and have just over 10k BP and I ‘only’ have about 3350 PP. Most of the time on PSN all you can find are people with less than 2000pp and usually even less than 1200pp, which means playing them is a constant hassle of gaining little but a loss means -90pp or more lol.
Ranked is the worst gauge of skill though. One random match does not say anything, at all.

Honest answer though: if someone is managing to find decent competition on a consistent basis/not abusing lag tactics, I’d say anything 3500 PP and above is usually pretty good. Of course since its usually next to impossible to consistently find good comp and lag abuse is rampant, no emperical statement/correlation can be made between points and skill.

It’s somewhat relieving to know that others also struggle with finding good matches online. I’m in my opinion a rather mediocre player and have roughly a 70+% win rate. I can stay around 3k+ but struggle finding people around my skill level on EU XBL. I have to play against everyone I can find if I want to find any matches at all. Because of this I pretty much always run into a ton of people that are much worse than me. Then I also run into the occasional clueless beginner that has a horrible connection, despite having max bar before the match. I’ve lost countless of such horribly laggy matches because of a complete inability to play the game. I admit I’m not a great player but I’m not convinced pp are a good measure of skill. In my case I might just have my current pp/winrate because of a lack of good competition. I might also unknowingly be relying on tactics that only are effective online.
I just played someone who had 4k PP and the summary of his game play was spam fireballs in a flow chart pattern, focus attack if someone got into poke range, and when down in life go absolutely nuts and hope something would hit.
It actually pretty predictable after a while to the point where I could go auto-pilot with the counter plan.

The only two players with 4k+ PP JR has ever played in a FT5 or FT10 set during the last whole year / basically since the day he got those 6k PP was hsien88 and J Rose.
He had like 3k PP the other day and from one night to the other morning he had 6k PP in SSF4 AE and then he lost the interest in playing this game.
I am sure you can explain why a 6k PP player never challenges anyone with 4k+ PP and whenever he does this happens.
I for one, like many others respect good player who are in the 6k PP range like Daigo, Tokido, Poongko, Latif, Infiltration, Alioune Sensei etc. Is JR / has JR ever been anywhere near these ppl’s skill lvl?

Mash random frame traps, whiff throw, abuse thick throw soon enough will trigger the random DP/jump/reset from the opponent.

Anyone who has a knowledge about this game can see that your 6k PP is not legit. Look up Infiltration, Fourwude, MBR Akuma, Tokido, Galtu11111, Cose -6, Hound, etc these akuma players
are in the 5-6k PP range because they worked for their PP.
