The thing with PC points is that the overall point pool is smaller.
Being 4300PP puts you top 300 globally on pc(including all the cheaters), but 4300pp on XBox puts you 1500ish.
The skill level is much lower though so breaking 4k on PC is a piece of cake, but I could see how trying to get into that 5k+ range would be difficult because eventually most of your matches are going to be for 1 point, and there are no random 4k scrubby ryus joining your games like on xbox.
If you’re gonna cheat at least make it a believeable number…
At least we know the thworetical maximum PP, lol. Also begs the question why they programmed it to even go that high when even the legit top ranks are between 5-6k…
Yep this is true, even though getting 3000+pp is easy, and if you are good then 4000+ shouldnt be too hard either, from then on you barely ever get to play people who give you more than 1 pp and one loss will mean -100+ pp. That said, most of my best opponents were 0-1000pp dudes who play mostly endless. Lets all just agree finally that points dont really make a difference.
PC version has less players. So there are not so many good players, but also not so many bad players. In the end, it isn’t really easier than on the other systems.
You have to consider though that the majority of those Xbox players are from the USA.
In Europe there exists a better player balance between Xbox, PS3 and PC.
But I really admire the courage of those to face online opponents. The shit that happens with online destroys your mind completely. On Xbox you know that nothing else will intervene with the connection like on PC. Torrents, Windows Updates, Steam Updates etc If you are decent, reaching 2000 pp can be easy by beating random people, but after that where small details start to count more, you’ll need to pick your opponents and their online connections carefully. Microsoft abandoned the GFWL client for months too.
Come to think of it, almost all the matches I lose are due to throws being ‘untechable’ and stuff like random scissors/blanka balls/sobat kicks hitting me as I’m walking forward because you cant block them on reaction with the crappy input delay ;-;
Statistically speaking you will find a higher percentage of good players among those with 5000PP than those with 4000.
A higher percentage of good players among those with 4000 than among with 3000.
A higher percentage of good players among those with 3000 than of those with 2000.
A ***higher percentage ***of good players among those with 2000 than among those with 1000.
it’s kind of interesting - that actually happens on every netcode type. 3SOE is GGPO netcode and offline you can late tech, but online pretty much have to early tech or you just won’t tech the throw. so take something like empty jump throw/uppercut mixup. this is not even a thing offline. try that offline against anyone who has been playing for a year or two and they will late tech. so either the throw gets teched or the uppercut is blocked and punished. online it’s pretty much a retarded 50/50.
same with those moves with horizontal movement you mentioned. in SF4 it’s getting hit by random half screen blanka balls as you’re walking forward because you see it but the input delay doesn’t let you block in time. in 3S there’s not that same input delay, but there’s a different problem - the game tries to stay in sync in real time without adding input delay, so naturally it has to cut animation frames to keep everyone synced up. so a popular strategy Dudley players often employ is to walk back to about 75-100% screen spacing and throw out a raw EX MGB. this will never hit anything offline because you can see it in time and block. then it’s super punishable so you get your choice of free punish. online the situation is different. Dudley waits to see that you’re moving forward, throws out that EX MGB, you have almost no time to react by the time you see it, and he gets decent damage and a knockdown. quite a role reversal there. those who’ve been around the block a few times online just know that when they see a Dudley walking backwards he is probably getting ready to do that, so they start barely walking forward and random blocking to bait it out. we now have a great example of a lag tactic, and a tactic to bait and punish the lag tactic. we’ve built a lag metagame. offline we avoided this whole dumb fiasco because it was never a viable tool to begin with.
well after you get good at teching throws it isn’t much of a problem even online (let’s say yellow bars). The throw tech window is really large, the thing is 90% of the players simply aren’t good at reading throw patterns or late crouch teching.
Those ex headbutt/blanka balls/sobats/all slides on the other hand are unblockable even on yellow bars.
This being said, I only play green bars unless i’m seriously desperate. Character seems made of bricks and footsies are impossible on anything less than green bars
at least for PC I can pretty much say that PP doesn’t mean shit. many players are switching characters just to keep it fresh and have fun and they doesn’t care if they lose points because of it. on the other hand BPs are also not really a criterion cuz you just earn’em by playing a lot. and then they are also players which barely play ranked but are nontheless experienced.
I meant throw tech in third strike. IMO throw tech is really easy in SF4 unless you are playing online in an awful connection. throw tech on reaction in third strike online is pretty much impossible. best case scenario you early tech based on instinct or proximity.
Latif says hi, he’s a ranked monster. Some OPP endless people are really good, others are garbage. I don’t see what difference does it make if you play endless or ranked, sometimes I play the same person 10 times in a row on ranked.
I’d venture to say 2500-3500 PP players (that are serious about the game) Have a nice grasp of their mains and perhaps an alternate character, but some may not utilize proper safe jumps and OSs
4000+PP players either have gimmicky tactics or are genuinely solid.
All that said I’ve fought several competent players with just a few ranked matches under their belt.
Personally I’m an endless-slut and I suck and get pissed off at ranked, because people use ridiculous tactics that you’ll never see at EVO or SBO and all those tourneys.
I do my best to play the game the way it should be played; which other people may not agree with - but if you mash a reversal in block strings or on wake-ups I feel like getting up from my arcade stick and turning my back to the screen disgusted with your dishonorable play style.
Lag is also a pain the ass, which for me is a major issue (my internet isn’t the best and I’m in Indiana). Go in the training room and then go online you’ll definitely feel a difference even in a 4 bar.
I swear lag hits right about when I need to hit a 1-2 frame link too.
Therefore in ranked I’ll get up to around 1200 and call it a day.
In the end I feel online is best served best of 7s or first to 10 that sort of thing. Good luck staying in a lobby long enough though, I get kicked by the host a lot for simply waiting my TURN!
The difference is flagrant when you play arcade mode with request mode on, and yes in endless I get kicked a lot of times before they even play me. I mean why would you make a room for 3 people if your going to kick the 3rd person who joins.
I can confirm, I fluctuate between 1000 and 3000 pp (highest I got I think was 3300some), and I tend to play a LOT of characters lol (when I play Ken I usually rocket up to 2500+ in an hour of playing but playing the same character gets boring so I switch to troll characters for a while like Honda/Blanka/Elf/Hawk, or characters who I find fun like Yun, Guy, Cody, or one of the characters Im currently learning such as Akuma or Evil Ryu, I tend to usually play ranked with Akuma or Evil Ryu nowdays actually lol)
That said, I started playing SF4 this year’s april, so theres that lol
