Seems like they didn’t pay THAT much attention to the SE model after all, Markman
(ie even lower end sticks having same easy mod-capability as flagship models)
I was comparing with the spare Hori sticks I have, the extra JLF mounting plates, and the measurements for flat mounting plates on akihabarashop with this pic.

If those points circled match the JLF spacing, then it would seem the Seimitsu flat mounting plates woud work to. Couple that with the fact that the PCB there would make it possible to do the solderless trick, and the empty space inside and i’m really feeling good about this stick. It should be easier to mod the the Fighting Stick 3/Wii by a long shot.
One thing im curious about is if the case will be deep enough to house the entire JLF. The EX2 was too short, and you had to either modify the bottom plate, the JLF shaft, or use the Hori Shaft. It seems like the JLF will sit a bit lower in the case if you can use the holes i circled. which might mean (if it fits just fine in all other aspects) you might not have to use the hori shaft.
either way, we’ll just have to wait and see… surely someone can get their hands on one of these (markman) soon enough.
Why the fuck do they bother putting the buttons on the pcb? Horrible.
Was planning on getting some of these. Now after seeing that pic. I’ll wait for the later models.
Man, they better not charge more than $50 for that… Fuckin Hori, why.
It’s a different shell with the same old parts.
I… need… that…HORI PAD…
The wonderous joy that I will instill upon it.
somebody send Hori a letter about this…
Well I still think it’ll be more mod friendly. One of the problems with the Fight Stick 3/Wii is that the top slanted so that reduced the amount of clearance the further toward the bottom of the stick you went. THese ones seem to be totally boxy so if they are as thick as the top of the FS3/Wii we’ll be in business.
Kinda a bummer to see the vx have buttons soldered. Wonder if they have to be filed too.
Regardless, I willl wait till Frys has these on sale. My hori ex2 modded with sanwa buttons and ls-56 is my favorite stick because of how compact it is.
So is soldering a hard thing to do? Because despite the buttons being Soldered, the V3 is like my only choice of stick right now.
EX2’s/Fight sticks have always been soldered and have been a PITA to mod. The V3 continues this recycling of parts. It’s not difficult, but time consuming.
at least with this new VX version there aren’t any buttons soldiered to the main PCB, just a separate one.
so does that make it easier to mod? And what do you do after you solder off the PCB and replace the buttons?
Discard the button PCB and make your connections directly to the main PCB.
you dont risk damaging the main pcb (if you’re not good at soldering)
and there is the possibility you might be able to just cut the button pcb out completely and wire directly to the buttons.
You can dispose of the PCB after you solder off Buttons.
Can just extend the existing wires and connect direct to Buttons with solder or Quick Disconnect.
Can extend by splicing or use of Terminal Strip, anything.
At least it’s easy to ID what’s what on the button PCB.
still makes for work you’d have to do yourself as opposed to being QD straight outta the box.
Wonder what the cost will be.

Made a vid on them on my youtube account if anyone is interested.
