Hori Hayabusa unboxing + mods!

I myself have never been a fan of the JLF tbt, because of the far engage distance. I use an old IL Happ Competition stick, and what I like about the stick is the short engage. To me, this is the most important spec when coming to fighting games. While it has a much larger throw than the JLF, it doesn’t bother me because I’m a Shoto user, and am barely riding the gates anyway. If the Competition used a thinner shaft like the JLF/seim sticks, it would have been the perfect stick for me.

And this is why I’m seriously considering getting a Hayabusa- jlf/seim like shaft and top, quicker engage. Sounds like my dream stick. Will comment on its performance once i can bring myself to terms with the possibility of saying goodbye to my Happ stick forever.

The movement is quicker, but the actual throw and engage distances are the same if not longer than the JLF.
If you what short engage on Japanese style joysticks, consider Seimitsu.

Would you believe, that up until this very moment, I have never really looked twice at Seimitsu’s offerings??? Everyone, everywhere, here in my country, on the web, has always been jlf jlf jlf jlf. Hmm, I’m starting to eye down the LS-40: medium spring, short engage. Now I guess its a tossup between that and the Haya. Hmm, lemme look over some old threads.

Ah yes Dark, I just remembered the reason I never considered either the LS-32 or the 40. I remember reading somewhere on here that they “jump up” when using them, so I immediately (and ignorantly) just wrote it off.

Thanks once again for coming through with vital info and suggestions.

That is only with the LS-32, the LS-40 does not have that issue.
There also the LS-56/58 which is smaller than the JLF.

The Sanwa JLW, a joystick older than the JLF is not a bad option ether.
It’s a step closer to the old Happ/IL joysticks than the JLF is.

Also Korean joysticks are getting more popular lately, but I haven’t tried them yet so I can speak of them personally.

Do the LS-40 and LS-56 have the same engage distances though? The only problem I had with the LS-56 is not being able to hyperhop due to the tiny deadzone.

I haven’t taken measurements but the LS-40 seems to have a slightly longer engage than 56. Doesn’t seem nearly as crazy tight.

On another note: The adjustable actuators from PAS makes shortening the slightly longer throw on the Hayabusa stupid simple. You guys need to try these things. They’re great.

hyper hop?

Can you guys comment as to the accuracy of this chart on Slagcoin:

If it is correct, I’ve narrowed my Seis selection to the LS-40, especially since that jumping issue is not present. So basically its between the Haya and the LS-40.

My mind is telling me to get one of each and really test both out (but then my wife would kill me…)

It’s a KoF thing I’m not smart enough to understand. I think they have two types of super jumps with particular execution demands.

Yea its a KOF thing

Sad thing is I own some of the old KOF MVS carts and I just now hearing about Hyper hop

^LOL

Well if there’s only a slight difference between the LS-40 and LS-56 then the LS-32 might be more of what I’m looking for.

The 40 and the 56 are quite different. I haven’t tried a 32, but from what I’ve read and viewed, the 40 is much closer to the 32 than it is the 56.

The crazy thing about joysticks, you never know till you try.

The more you try, the better. Speaking of that,I still need to try a jlw- too bad they’re scarce now.

Don’t do it. The 32 and 40 are similar but the 40 has a waaaaaaaaay better pivot.

Its too bad with the LS-38-01 they didn’t fix anything with the LS-32’s flaws. If they just made the outer diameter of the pivot larger and a bit taller, they could of ‘fixed’ the LS-32.
They only toss in a slightly different shaft design that allows for shaft covers, but the LS-38 shaft is not compatible with any of the existing Seimitsu or Sanwa joystick shaft covers.

At least the Hayabusa is compatible with most of the existing JLF aftermarket parts.

The JLW is great if you like bat tops. Best one I’ve used, easily. It has just the right amount of resistance for a bat top (less than any American bat top), and there is a very satisfying clack when the actuator hits the gate. I may actually be using it instead of the iL Eurostick right now if it weren’t too small for my gigantic American hands.

Reason I’m looking into the LS-32 is because of the circle gate BTW. I’m not sure how much the pivot issue would bother me.

The pivot isn’t a really issue if you don’t hit the gate too hard.
Even then some people don’t mind it, you feel a slight pop when the pivot lifts up a slight bit.
The again the LS-32 is a very old joystick design which been around for a long time.
Older than the JLW which started to appear before Street Fighter II became a thing.
