What do you all think about the Kowal actuator in the hayabusa? It feels like it reduces the throw and makes it a little bit smoother when it hits the gate. I think I really like it.
So what do you prefer? The throw is just too big and it feels too harsh when it hits the gate. The kowal actuator seems to help with both of those issues. The other thing that solves some of those issues is a tighter spring. That just makes it so that I don’t hit the gate nearly as much. Problem with that is when I’m having hand / arm trouble its more difficult to play with.
Only Omeron switches I see on any of the stores are the D2RV-G switches. Can you tell me what kind of a difference the switch really makes? What’s special about the switches you use? What comes stock with the hayabusa? In terms of grams of force required for actuation? I should note I actually like the noise the switch makes when its hit. I don’t particularly want silent.
I’m really trying to experiment and find what works best for me before resoldering the RGB LED wire into the adapter wire. Once I do that it will be a pain the butt to make changes to the lever, so I’d rather try a few things out now.
Can you elaborate on this a bit? Inconsistencies? I’m playing around with the HHS + kowal and I’m having some issues consistently FDACing. My problem lies in consistently hitting forward + forward twice without doing down + forward instead. Is this something that could be an issue with the actuator? Or just me needing more practice?
You have to be more precise with a larger actuator/shorter engage. This is the reason you’ll see some people claim the LS-40 is too “jumpy” for fighting games. Keep using it and you’ll get used to it.
What about what moon said about there really not being any room left for a larger actuator?
My main concern is the throw. I’m really using the kowal to reduce the throw. Dashes on the default hori are a pain in the ass. The kowal makes them easier, but you have to make sure you hit forward exactly on then nose or you’ll accidentally hit another direction.
My Hayabusa feels like it has more throw than a JLF, that’s why I’ve been using ls-32 mainly at the moment because I don’t feel like messing around with more sticks and ls-32 feels good and has short throw and engage for KOF and shmups, Hayabusa feels good for the rest with a 2lb spring to me.
He means that with a larger actuator you can get inputs that you don’t want. When I first unboxed a 'Busa I threw multiple sized actuators in it for science. 1mm was too large. I kept getting inputs that I didn’t want. It had nothing to do with execution either. I was only clicking the directions one after another in SFIV training mode and was still getting instances of rebound inputs and other inconsistencies.
So what do you use with it? Did you try the kowal? Or is that basically just a 1mm? I wouldn’t say I get inputs I don’t want from just moving the stick for specials- I just get bad inputs when doing dashes - which are a lot less controlled. Slapping the stick forward for forward dash isn’t as bad as going backwards. If I pull it back with my fingers (wine glass grip) I get down+back a lot of the time. If I use my thumb and push the stick back I still have issues unless I’m being really conscious about it.
I may just try the JLF with the kowal and see how that does. The problem I had with the JLF was that the diagonals were too hard to hit; I had to really aim for them. I’ll try a few things out and see how I do. I don’t know - I feel like my JLF used to be fine but now it just doesn’t feel “right”. I’m also concerned because my hayabusa was in my TE, which was in a very hot and humid (New Orleans summer) car for over a week. I was told that just relubing it should be okay, though.
Problem I’m having is that I’ve read a lot of different opinions on lubing. Most people have said just lube that little plastic round thing that goes in the pivot. Though I’ve seen some people posting “a pea size should be enough for the whole stick”, which to me implies that they’re lubing more than just that one piece. I wonder what else would benefit from it?
I use the stock actuator on the Hayabusa. The engage is short enough as it is. I don’t really feel a need to use one any larger. I think you need practice and not a modded lever. Spend less time fucking with everything and more time playing games.
