I am finding it a lot easier now that im using quick and delayed rise
NJ late FP i did it last night to beat some ex fireballs i cant remember if it was off a normal jump or demon flip though. i landed in time to block the fireballs too but you cant always. the trade is always good.
i find focus back dash normally gets you out of trouble if you have ground to give up. obviosuly you can get swept and tatsu OS’d so its just another thing to consider. also you can red focus if you see the fireballs coming for some nice damage provided hes close enough
(Red) focus won’t work since Akuma recovers before I can let go of the attack. If I do regular focus attack to absorb 1 fireball out of the 2 and then backdash, then he doesn’t even need to OS me since he can sweep on reaction.
Yes! I managed to win in an offline event and took out a member of LLL who plays Akuma (sponsored players from Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg). Won a pro keyboard as a result~.
The main thing I did when our lives were even was take a risk and (double) dash forward when he did a demon flip and go for cr.lk, cr.lp xx HHS when I managed to successfully get under him.
It ended up being the most rewarding option I had when I didn’t have the life lead.
Empty jump, j.MP and j.LP are your main jumpin tools against Deejay. Don’t even think about crossing him up or doing close ‘ambiguous’ jumps when he has charge unless you’re doing a safejump.
Slowly close the distance until you can stuff whatever Deejay has with cr.LP. If you feel you need to jump forward over a fireball, then you can be safe from his sliding sweep by just emptyjumping from far. If You empty jump from close, the upward leg (the one that doesn’t cause a hard knockdown) from his slide will hit you, the answer to that is not to jump from that close or j.MP.
His wakeup options are pretty bad, that’s your moment to shine with meaties or option selects. (Do not cross him up or jump when he’s knocked down unless you’re doing a safejump!!)
Nice man, must have been MBR. He is pretty good, I played against him in Germany. got bodied but this was about 2 years ago now, it was really close, I think I could beat him now. LLL has a player called Momi who has a really good fei who absolutely destroyed me before I knew how to approach that matchup. would love to play against those guys again but sadly im back in Canada now. I played VolcanicAkuma who spends a lot of time on SRK, last time we played I beat him 5-0 and I lost to him the other day
thats a smart idea to dash under him, didnt think the fat man could move fast enough. i do this a lot with decapre, never though to do it with hondaman. To be honest once I see the double fireballs come out I just jump back/dash back/ gtf back in any way possible and consider it a trade for his wasted bar and my lost ground. a lot of it has to do with the timing of when he releases the fireballs that will change your options. now that i think of it, you SHOULD be able to ultra 1 him with the correct timing… I have definitely done this before to scrubs on non-ex fireballs. hmm if i get time tonight i will test out ultra 1 vs. different variations of demon flips
on another note… lets talk Juri… No one has really talked about that matchup yet on here. I have lost to 3 Juri’s in tournament now. This weekend, I actually had the victory and I gambled on a chip win with a FP headbutt because i did not take the player seriously because I bodied him 3-0 last time. so the result - i ate ultra 2. but he told me after he had studied this matchup very hard to beat me specifically.
I think it is important to note that the fact her fireballs dont go full screen is something you can take advantage of a lot more with Juri than say Chun or Sim. I think every effort should be made to corner her as much as you can without eating chip.
i think this match got better because if she whiffs ex pinwheel it sucks you in now so you get full hands punish if you dont have ultra ready yet. ex pinwheel is mad easy to safe jump with mk. i traded on a pure guess not even sure how it would work. jump fp with decapre beats it clean so maybe nj hk with honda beats it too.
her divekick seems to have gotten a buff, i remmeber ex being very punishable and now it is not. dotn get caught off guard walking forward and eating this shit.
be careful jumping in. her fireball recovers faster than anyone in the game i am pretty sure. better to try and jump when she is storing but even then sometimes you still eat the fireball in time, its so fast. i did not find much success jumping in.
going air to air seemed always a good bet. hondas buttons just have the right hitboxes to deal with all her air attacks, and she has no air throw.
if she gets in on you, i would avoid cr tech, she has a st FP ( i think) thhat is airborne and can blow you up easy. however if you block it you can get a hands combo. juris walk speed is shit so its a little easier to tell if she is going for a throw or not. also cant forget that overhead.
she can safe jump your ex headbutt as easily as you can safe jump her ex pinwheel so just respect that and try and play it safe, hopefully if you eat a throw you can guess the correct delay or not and ex headbutt or lk buttslam her meaty attempt.
on the ground i think honda wins once he gets in range. your walkspeed is better so you can move in and out and poke with the hk and mp without too much fear other than getting focused. of course cr lp is godlike footsie button and can just shut pinwheels down on startup all over the place and will stuff all her dashes. this is where i find 90% of success in pretty much all matchups anyway and i dont see how this is any different for this one.
Haha, yea it was LLL MBR, it’s cool you know of him~
The Juri matchup definitely changed for the worse. In previous versions it wasn’t that scary if Juri was building meter at a ridiculous fast rate because she could do nothing threatening with it (maybe some Honda specific fadc combos?). Her wakeup options were also extremely bad, you could shut them all down with 1 button (cl.HP).
The best way to turn everything around consisted of making use of Honda’s character specific bnb (jab xx HHS, EX Buttslam). This always gave a knockdown and so Honda could follow this up with a meaty cl.HP (+ on block, trade/meaty hit gives amazing combos) to wreck Juri’s face in 1 damaging burst. Then you could lame it out EASILY with a good life lead while keeping her out with or w/o headbutts.
Now that EX Pinwheel is invincible in USF4, you can’t really continue the braindead pressure like you used to. As a side-note: EX pinwheel also didn’t necessarily get any more punishable for Honda, you could always do reversal HHS (not jab xx HHS) to punish it from any range like you can now.
The biggest concern of her having meter now, is her excellent use of RFA. All headbutts get blown up for free once she gets 3 bars (really easy for her to get this while keeping Honda out since she’s the fastest fireball meterbuilder in the game). In AE all you needed to worry about was 1 hit of her pinwheel kick and her being in your face with hardly any frame advantage where you want her to be. But now she gets to cancel it into RFA, knock you down in a very very bad position and do lots of damage (with U1 or U2).
c.mp can trade with honda’s j.mp if Juri is close enough, if she’s too far you can’t beat it.
c.HP is slow but extremely good if used close enough, don’t fuck with it. You can trade with it if you jumped from a distance with j.LP and j.MP I think.
i think evil ryu might be among honda’s worst match ups in ultra. i feel like I’m never in control of the match and that i only win because the e. ryu is making mistakes
I honestly don’t. I lame it out and stay just outside of his lp straight range. There I tend to chop and stuff/whiff punish his straights. If he does TAP, it gets stuffed as well. Once Rog catches on to this, you’ll have to mix it up with FA , neutral jump, buffered jabs or block. If you don’t have the life lead, then you’ll just have to walk him in the corner, with occasional blocks and buffered jabs into hands.
Luckily, you have great potential of making a comeback on Rog unlike all other characters. Once u get in, you can get some extremely ambiguous crossups with f.throw -> setup -> j.HK.
Also, if you land any form of hands on a standing Rog, you can combo into EX buttslam. This alone is extremely huge because it’s an extremely rare case where Honda can reliably combo into a KNOCKDOWN for huge damage and a chance to do meaty setups and additional pressure.
Hey guys! Having trouble with the rose matchup. Any updates, thoughts or tips with regards to the footsie game or how to approach her generally? Thanks in advance!
he can be a bitch to fight still. when he has meter hes scary. i lost to one pretty recently in tournament, it was mega close but he was a really good player. i made a few too many jump ins and let him build too much meter.
Haha… unfortunately I don’t think that is a very good video showing how to fight Sagat. This match was played sloppy on both sides - a lot of extremely unsafe reads on my part. I play this guy all the time so we know each other’s tendencies and I just wanted to post his demise online.
This is a more realistic matchup between him and me:
