Honda Match-up Thread: After the war 2010 AE

Ah yea, I knew about the U1 thing beating yoga sniper once blocked, but I didn’t know it also worked when you’re hit by it.
I’ll need to check it out, because I’ve only done reversal EX headbutt (with great success) once hit by it.

I haven’t tried to do instant j.MK or j.MP against fireball>teleport mixups yet, definitely something I should do if I’m meterless, so far I’ve only done (auto-correct) EX Buttslam.

I’m really struggling with Honda vs Rose is there anything Honda can do in this matchup? well timed projectiles and slides just shut me down completely i have no time to mount an offense it happens to me as well vs Deejay but i haven’t seen a single Deejay since Ultra came out, but more Rose players are popping out since Luffy won EVO.

Because her fireballs are absolutely terrible, I always like to build ultra meter if she gives me the chance by focusing the fireballs. Once you have ultra and you’re midscreen, she can’t bully you anymore.
If she for some reason fails her AA cr.HP or her escape slide, then you can confirm off of that jumpin a really good combo because she’s in a crouching state. cr. LP xx H. Hands - cr. MK xx EX Hb does mighty good 307 dmg.
Once you don’t have the life lead and you don’t have meter, you’re forced to walk forward and deal with her superior normals. Her normals tend to go over cr.LP, so don’t throw it out there recklessly. Your best jumpins for getting in are j.MP, j.LP and empty jump. Empty jump can make her cr.HP whiff pretty hard and can always block the slide.

Her reversals are pretty shit, but I haven’t come around to hit the lab yet and find an option select that beats her ex drill AND her backdash. So far you’re better off doing meaties on her wakeup.
If she backdashes, it’s not a big deal, she’ll be in the corner if she does it too much. Once she’s actually there, you can do a fake xup setup that’s really easy to do (if she doesn’t make use of DWU). f.throw, neutral jump, fj.mk.

edit
Found a setup that beats most of her options besides DWU on her wakeup after oicho.
Oicho, front dash, cl.HP:

  • Catches backdash, recovers in time to block EX Drill, beats or trades with her 3fr cr.LP
  • loses to FA lvl 1, focus backdash, super and Ultra 1.

It doesn’t always work since it’s pretty situational and risky depending how high from the ground Dhalsim teleports, how late and from what side.
Once you whiff with an instant/delayed jump attack, or empty jump in whatever direction, you’re gonna eat an U2.

well he normally doesnt have a ton of time to jump + teleport post fireball. but you are absolutely right i have been hit with u2 like that before. its a mixup i believe you can react to though.

main thing i want to add about rose is just never try to battle her in mid range

Argh, Honda’s cl.HP fails to meet my requirements.

How about cl.hk? does it work against teleport?

@Blueberry‌ nah, cl.hk works the same way as cl.HP. I just used it too close to Sim, I had to take a couple of steps back.

Anyways, I made a small DP FADC punish list
Against all DP fadc forward dashes you can throw, cr.LP or oicho to all the characters who got the universal nerf.
The following list is for backdashes (FABDC) and focus attack release, since these can be much more character specific and u see them now more in play.

Adon / Dan / Guile
FABDC & FA release:

  • nothing

C.Viper / Cammy / Decapre / Evil Ryu / Fei Long / Guile / Poison / Seth / Yang
**DP xx FABDC **:

  • nothing

DP xx FA release:

  • c.jab hits
  • oicho hits

Akuma & Ryu
**FABDC **:

  • s.HK whiffs (only hits if u stand block from point blank range)

FA release:

  • c.jab hits
  • oicho hits

Ken
**HP DP xx FABDC **:

  • Ultra 1 blocked (only hits if u stand block from point blank range)
  • s.HK whiffs (only hits if u stand block from point blank range)
  • HP Super hits

**HP DP (2 hits) xx FABDC ** :

  • Ultra 1 hits
  • s.HK whiffs (only hits if u stand block both hits from point blank range)
  • HP super hits

HP DP (1 or] 2 hits) xx FA release:

  • c.jab hits
  • oicho hits

Oni
**FABDC **:

  • EX Headbutt hits
  • s.HK hits
  • Super hits
  • Ultra 1 hits
  • HP headbutt blocked (only hits when u stand block from point blank range)

FA release:

  • c.jab hits
  • oicho hits

Sagat
FABDC:

  • EX buttslam hits (180 dmg)
  • EX Headbutt hits
  • s.HK hits
  • Super hits
  • Ultra 1 hits
  • HP headbutt blocked (only hits if u stand block from point blank range)

FA release:

  • c.jab hits
  • oicho hits

nice shit man always on point with this tech
i am still sleeping on these punishes i keep hitting jab too late :frowning: on the dash forward ones

when you say “on release” so this means they are doing DP, FA - level 1 - dash forward right? im assuming if they are taking the time to charge level 2 its no longer true blockstring between the DP and the FA so you could do hands, headbutt, ultra, whatever right?

also for ken i saw that super hits his FABDC, maybe you just missed it but would EX headbutt not punish it as well seeing as its even faster?

No, it means they DP and immediately thereafter ex focus attack.
On all characters from the list (except Adon / Dan / Guile), you can throw out an oicho or a 4fr normal to interrupt the ex focus attack.
You won’t even give them the chance to let the ex focus attack hit, so there’s no point in talking about backdash or front dash after FA lvl 1.

As odd as it sounds, EX Headbutt gets blocked, but super hits.
This image is from my original post. It shows all options I’ve tried on Ken:

Nice work Angerus!

It’s the super’s forward movement, it’s faster. It’s the same reason why after fierce hands against some characters crouching jab into super will combo but crouching jab into ex headbutt won’t(yes, I know there are some fat characters that get hit by ex headbutt too, they get hit by super too).

ahh ok makes sense  thanks guys

any tips on approaching Adon? I find i have to turtle super hard and play guessing games during his strings. i always seem to win for some reason and still have no idea what the hell im doing. blocking jaguars and punish with u2 has helped tremendously though! i kind of treat him like blanka, walk and block slow as hell and stick out jabs. jumping seems like a horrible idea unless you can take him air to air.

No real plan against Adon.
You can try and AA Adon’s Jaguar kicks with s.MK or s.HP, but do keep in mind that this will probably only work against air jaguar kicks.
The first hitbox is a grounded jaguar kick (where he yells ‘Jaguar kick’), the 2nd is the air one (where he’ll make a random shout).

I’ve never tried to do s.MP as a late AA against air jaguar kicks, but that might also work. I usually use s.MP preemptively and AA lp headbutt if he manages to get around that.
If Adon makes a mistake, you can’t really punish him hard. There are no character specific combos that work on him other than the basic bnb.

Ultra 1/LP. Headbutt on Reaction to Jaguar kicks/teeth and jump back HK/HP to beat crossup-happy Adons. Other than that I just sit on the life lead and let them kill themselves.

sounds like a good matchup for double ultra

what do you think about oni-honda? slow fireball recovery makes him easy to jump on. all in all he just seems slower and easier to break and walk back than the rest of the shotos. always takes me a few games to get used to his shit though, can never block xup slashes online in time

Hi Im interested to main Honda and new to Honda , I main several charge characters
Any tips against Shoto and other Projectile character, especially Ryu
Fight against Ryu is Hard as Hell, especially with high PP above 2000.
Thanks.

is there a super reliable way to get EX hands after cr.lp-H hands? trying to learn these 30+hit combos. Now im just doing LMH and then plinking mp+LP. can you just mash it out during the animation of the first HHS?

You can but it’s rather unreliable and u need to time the mash if you’re planning to do it that way.
If you mash too early during the hands, you’ll get extended L, M or H hands instead.

Hhs to ex hhs. u may press the kick button to count the hit and then mash the buttons

Anybody manage to get any games off good Poison players? That match feels brutal, mostly because her fireball game is so strong. I haven’t gotten a chance to play any good ones offline yet, but online anyway it’s a huge chore to get near her. Against Guile, at least you can bulldog your way in with patience, but not against Poison; she can just throw fireballs too fast to walk down. Even if I get a read on when she wants to throw a fireball, that’s not good enough: if she chooses to throw a HP one, she just recovers in time to block the jump-in or even anti-air (or worst of all, juggle after the HP fireball hits me out of the air). And throw in the fact that EX Fireball is basically not blockable on reaction online from like half-screen, lol.

I’m thinking that U2 is probably the way to go, as it can reliably punish her jaguar kick on block, as well as all blocked rekkas if close enough, and U1 is pretty hard to land against her amazing fireball recovery. Although maybe wultra is the way to go?

Anyway, I’m looking for any kind of tips you guys might have. I’m going to a local this weekend and am dreading have to face a good Poison offline…it’s definitely the matchup I’m most scared of right now (at least Sagat and Yun I have experience with).
