Ok I’m going to write up some tips on how to stop C. Viper’s common tactics. This match up is insanely slanted towards Honda. A high level Viper can adapt (anyone can) to these things and tricks to use in this match up so nothing of course is a guaranteed win. I also have a video linked here to the stream to the matches I’ll be talking about. (If anyone knows how to pull it to youtube let me know, I’m not a tech guy)
This past Saturday I played Flash Metroid in a money match to test out my thoughts against a high level Viper. I feel I was also able to show what NOT to do as well in the second match. I was labeled as “Some Dude” . A few quick things: Flash most likely was not taking it serious in the beginning which is why I was able to test out/show things in the first match. It was only for five bucks. After the first match I really didn’t even want to go again because I felt I may see him later in the brackets that day, so in match two I really threw out whatever not sticking to any gameplan at some points doing things to show what NOT to do (miss timed AC jab HB) I’m just a Weekend Warrior at this, with a family and job and school so I didn’t want a high level player to “download” my play style super quickly if I was to see him later with a lot more money on the line.

Match 1: For the first 12-14 seconds I held down back and just let Viper chip/cancel seismo. After this Viper started cross up shinanigans, I first went with low jab hands, showing that you will eat fire to your face. I missed AC timing on HB on the cross up kicks until the end of the first round. When your are in the corner if Viper does Burning Kick above your head, its a free Ultra 1. You AC if its a cross and use it faster if its just in front of you (like in the video).
Notice in the beginning of all the rounds except one, he lead with sitting and chipping with seismo. Honda has enough health to eat that chip and still face her head on if you are patient. On most jump ins I jumped at a range to hit with standing strong and not deep mixing between jab hands and jab ochio throw. I also played very patient in potential reversal situations letting her EX seismo and then punishing. There was also a butt slam I used at the wrong time and he missed the Ultra ( I should have been dead).
Match 2: Notice in the beginning of rounds I no longer held d/b. I instead lead with HB and lost the def. adv I held. Also note that short butt slam is a terrible option to HB on her burning kick cross ups. So always use a well time HB to stuff that.
(AC are not luck. If you are holding a charge as they jump over you input the motion finishing as they cross through the midline of your character. ex. Your on the left holding d/b (left). A Viper jumps in from the right above your head, as she crosses over the midline of you, input the HB as your normally would finishing just as she corsses that line. You HB behind you hitting her in the air. This works well against some cross ups and not as well against others, learning which and when to time can really help)
Also if you read Viper seismo patterns, (fake fake, real…fake, real,…fake…fake…real) you can U1 from about 1/2 to 2/3 screen and hit her. This is a guess but an educated guess based on your rec. patterns in the player your facing.
So in summary for the thread:
-Auto correct HB is your best friend against her cross up kicks, using U1 as well if its available. This is the number one thing, if you can time auto corrects at will, you already have alot going for you in this match up taking away her cross up game.
-U1 is prob. better for this match up unless your an absolute monster at 720 set ups.
-Jump back strong beats most of her super jump arcs coming at you
-Cross up pressure her on her wake up if she is meterless, if not watch for EX Seismo
-Don’t be afraid to burn EX HB to put a stop to ground pressure strings and reset the situation
-Mix in Command Grabs on some jump ins
Anything else I missed or you think should ad let me know. I’m really rushing this out so I may have missed some things I’ll add later.
