this made my day. gen is looking better than honda in ssf4 ae.
in vanilla, i always thought that gen was as good as honda. theres no comparison between gen and honda in ssfiv, but right now gen is looking better in ae. but like i said, i think honda might still be better in the long run.

Honda didnāt get āGenādā all his tools are pretty much the same but do less damage (outside of LP headbutt) his basic gameplan is still the same as far as we know.
Honda didnāt have that many tools to begin with, but instead had a big damage output which is now somewhat gone. He also lost most of his meterless ground AA with the jab headbutt nerf (and the standing fierce nerf). There are even talk about his HHS being nerfed soā¦ But enough whining from me. At the end of the day, iām still going to play the chanko stew monster!
I want to reserve judgment for when I actually play the game, and not write Honda off yet, but the reports coming in are looking bleak. Maybe I was too optimistic before. Bleh.
philly just got AE the other day and from what i saw with honda was the followingā¦
headbutt AA(without meter) either traded or got beat which we all know
hand combos are still there but the game seems to have a delay or something when you go from jabxxhandsā¦ im not sure if its true but it definitely felt different.
ultra two sucks now the start up is assā¦ range is fine but the fact that you can jump out of it as soon as u see it makes it like dirty bull ultra with rog.
didnt get a chance to really test out ultra one invincibility but it just felt the same over all.
dmg nerf is very very noticable its do-able but damn it sucks.
jumping medium punch is next to worthless. the range on it is like getting hit with a elbow drop from a baby.
vanilla honda was so much better than what they have done to him. ill still use him cuz i love the character but you really cant jump with him at all and people can jump on you basicly all day unless u have meter. AA hardpunch works but it trades way too often to be truly effective
Thanks for the rundown on AE Honda. It seems like all reports coming in are exactly the same. Mike Ross officially dropping him was the final nail in the coffin for me.
damage on headbutt nerf makes no sense especially when it only applies to the far headbutts. who the fuck uses close headbutts aside from the ex version and lp one as anti air (which is gone now).
from close range, handslap combos are always a better choice over headbutt combos.
besides, far headbutts are highly punishable by pretty much everyone and against characters that canāt punish it well like guile, ryu, akuma, sagat, they have projectiles to keep you in check and can anti air on reaction.
one of his character titles is āHeavy Hitterā. Come SSF4AE DLC release, it should be changed to āHeavy Shitterā.
I was playing AE at PZ in houston with their slightly laggy cabinetsā¦ still did fine getting up to the 6 winstreak cap with honda, learn to play guyz.
Sagat is going to be a pain in the ass like in regular sf4, but at least we can headbutt over low fireball for better spacing now.
I think Honda vs Yun is 5-5, will try out my luck vs hsien changās when I get back to Austin.
Seems like now we have to really master lowforward -> ex. hands combos to maximize damage, and show people where hondaās damage really lies.
Iām not dropping honda. But in AE im playing with other characters just to feel out the changes. My main gripe is that the nerfs didnāt just make honda ass but he just feels so damn boring now.
I agree with M.Ross to a point. I agree that Honda seems dull without good damage and whatnot, however the nerfās didnāt make him seem boring. Itās just going to take some work and time to figure out now what to do in the matchupās. I admit I hate capcom for these nerfās and they go screw themselves, but Iām going to TRY to stick it out with Honda. I know Thegreaterforce didnāt say he was dropping him completely and is just going to look around for a bit, this is just my thoughts.
I tried honda today at MGL. The damage nerf is noticeable and anti-air headbutt is gone. We just have to work harder. Hands dont seem any different to me.
Ok getting back into the matchup topic, WHAT THE FUCK am I supposed to do against Rufus?
After playing a very good Rufus online(and with no lag or next to none) I feel like I canāt mount any tipe of offense, I can try to turtle(I guess Iām not good at turtling and I donāt like to turtle at all) but if he gets a knockdown basically itās over. I tried to just block and OS tech but he started to do instant dive kicks. I tried to read his offense and started to AA his instant dive kicks with LK buttstomp mixing it up with ex headbutts, but then he started to mix it up with higher dive kicks and beat my attacks. I tried then blocking and jumping back with HP or HK to beat his kinda high but not that high dive kicks, he started to combo me out of my jumping startup frames. I even tried focusing and back dashing but either the backdash came out as a dash(because of the crossup) or he hit me out of the backdash. Then I tried blocking/teching againā¦
I could win rounds and even some games, but it felt like I was always in a guessing game with all the odds against me. I have watched vids and read lots of stuff about that matchup. But I have never felt so helpless in this game before(well, maybe against vanilla sagat sometimes) and it felt worse because I THOUGHT I knew the matchup, but clearly I donāt.
-I NEVER try to tech throws. I would much rather eat the 120 damage from a throw then a full combo from Rufus.
-You need to try and keep him out from the very start of the match, because Rufus does indeed excel at pushing his advantage once heās inside. Takes a few matches to get to know a Rufus player imo, once you see some of his patterns you can go for more carefully timed EX-headbutts. If he blocks the ex headbutt, youāre pushed back far enough that you can continue trying to keep him out.
-I try to keep rufusā out mostly with st.hp (can trade/beat dive kicks if timed properly), jab to counter his cr.hp, and SOMETIMES LK buttslam, but if you miss this youāre eating a full combo.
Gief in AE is retarded. That grab range is dumb as shit and very annoying. Never in my life has someone grabbed my st. fierce and roundhouse. And Iāve never been grabbed out of ex headbutt with his U2 until now.
What nerfs did they do to his hands? I was able to link hands to hands. Also, what are the frames on his U2 now? I had a Yun jump out of it after cr.jab.
