Did a set with a friend of mine who learned abel a little bit a few months ago, and we did a first to 10, I dont do so well in the beginning, but I make a huge comeback.
I begin to make my comeback about halfway through the 2nd video and all the way to the final 4th video.
Couple of notable things there, st.fierce is a good poke against able, will stuff and/or trade with wheel kick and cod.
cr.jab xx HHS, cr.jab xx EX Buttslam works on standing abel, can be debatable if the bar is worth it or not (I think it is, because it scores a knockdown, not untechable, but still a knockdown none the less)
You can bait out breathless with a safe jump (early jump in mp, will cause mp to whiff) after an untechable, and be ready to ex headbutt it.
Also I do believe that all versions of buttslams are unsafe against breathless, if you whiff it anywhere on screen, can be punished by breathless…
Only case when it will beat breathless, is if it is a reversal and has armor breaking. Also note, do not try to cross abel up with buttslam when he has breathless, breathless to me seems to push abels hitbox backwards, so a lot of stuff that would cross him up, will not, thus allowing breathless to connect.
But those are just some of my findings, if I’m wrong on anything, oh well… I’m a scrub, I dont have a console of my own to play on =/
Yo carltwo I must’ve been smokin something, I totally forgot about COD. I’m starting to think that EX headbutt is your best escape option. To be fair I haven’t played very many good Abels but if they guess right twice or thrice and/or you guess wrong just as much the match is pretty much theirs. Here’s the kicker though: Honda’s oicho has more range than tornado throw. So I guess there’s something there to be taken advantage of.
My first char was dhalsim and i was getting bodied by abels before i switched to honda. When i switched to honda, this able that always destroyed me said that there was something about honda’s hitbox that prevented him from using some of his mixup options. It must’ve been something pretty integral too because I find myself winning sometimes lol.
Something about crouching honda can’t get hit by maybe the standing fp after step kick dash? i’m not sure. i don’t find this matchup to be in abel’s favor although i will admit it is almost even. honda’s hard pokes do really well in this matchup.
THIS MIGHT BE wrong, but i think only FIERCE hb can be punished by COD? im not sure on that. Getting a knockdown on abel is huge. I dont really feel as if he has a strong wakeup game and honda can really keep the pressure up. There is only one good abel in my scene so perhaps some of what i’m saying is just mind games i’m not sure. but it sure as hell ain’t guile/sim/chun
abel can punish all headbutts w COD. he js has to be blocking standing. if he is crouchin then i do believe that mp/fp are punishable.
and ive been pretty lucky to catch abels w their step kick, i can usually squeeze in a lk buttsplash. after landing it 2x ive found that they stop tryin to do it js to get in and using when they are already in my face (which is probably worse aha)
sak ive actually havent had too many problems with. if they js sit there and wait for u to come in dont jump js headbutt mid range. i havent had sak punish me. either their reactions were horrible or she js cant punish that. i keep her in the corner pretty cake. js be patient and dont stick too many normals carelessly if she has meter. she can combo into her stupid ex tatsu off of almost anything into her mixups
and dudley has a horrible wake game against honda. esp w/o meter stocked. yah he can do cross counter bt better dudleys ive noticed dont use that. js aim for a knockdown and conserve meter for his jump ins if u cant anticipate or arent in range to punish w normals
that’s true but abel’s command grab is invincible to throws so he’ll just snag you out of your whiff animation (your hitbox becomes MASSIVE, I’ve gotten smacked by balrog’s s.hp from like 1/2 screen or slightly more)
of course ochio having a better range helps though, and this would only happen if you both try to throw each other at the same time.
I take back what I said earlier, its 5/5 if he has souless, 6/4 with breathless, banking on LK splash or EX headbutt becomes unsafe as soon as he hits 50%, so you’re forced to eat all the mixups or gamble eating 35-45% trying to get him away from you and dealing 15-20%
also breathless makes his hitbox weird as hell so sometimes you’ll think you’ll go over him but remain on the same side, I really hate that
another note, I believe he has to be blocking standing to punish EX headbutt, so abuse that if he doesn’t know yet, but he probably does, but he’ll be crouching a lot to block your s.hks and c.hps.
also: what are everyone’s opinions on c.hp? i know it has stupid startup time and not so great reach (slightly less than s.hp) but it does massive damage, especially on a counterhit, anyone care to share their uses? personally I’ve only been using it to tag blanka electricity besides just sticking it out randomly when I think someone’s gonna walk forward on me.
just started learning honda…I play against some pretty good guys, and I seem to do better when I don’t even bother using butt slam. Is there any practical use to this move or is it best to just completely avoid it? It just seems too gimicky and punishable (kinda like Dudley’s thunderbolt actually)
Butt slam is far from useless. After butt slam you are at a prime distance for cross up, jab hands. You can empty jump Ultra 2 from the same distance. Even walk-up oicho if you like to take risks. Some normals can combo into slam so you don’t have to spend it for EX slam (which I personally use) but it’s character specific. It’s a good situation anti-air, for example it stuffs characters jumping back and if you wait until a character crosses you up auto-correct butt slam is a decent anti-cross up. You definitely do not want to abuse it (e.g. against grapplers especially) but if you can space it right it can make for some good baits. Example: MK butt slam blocked (-2 frames), opponent goes for throw (3 frame startup), you use EX headbutt to beat throw.
Well since your a know it all you should try posting something constructive.
Alot of people have picked it up here and are posting information that even though might be known, is still showing signs of people caring and wanting to get better.
I am trying to learn Honda after getting Blanka to B rank. I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to deal with opponents that constantly run away.
The problem is that he’s very strong in some areas while being complete ass in others (i.e. “balanced”). I’d gladly trade -30% off headbutt damage for an anti-air normal.
I’m starting to feel that Honda is gonna get nerfed. I know Capcom should focus on buffing other characters instead, but I think they’re gonna do something to him. I just hope it’s something that doesn’t hurt his matches against projectile characters. (ie reducing his damage on HHS).
Its funny that everyone who does not play Honda, complains about his damage output in Super…
Yet, in vanilla, he did more damage and he had more health, and nobody complained about him back then…
