hey guys just played about 15 matches against a fuerte and lost 8-6. I honestly didn’t really feel confident in any of the matches even when I won. I felt like it was a contest of who could be more random. Below is a playlist of some of the matches any insight would be appreciated. A lot of times I just tried to jump away on wake up and got caught by meaty splashes, slides, and tortilla bombs.
I’ll add, try not to get hit with a focus attack (when you eventually start to jump). If the player knows what he’s doing, Goukens combos hurt like a mother. Empty jumps are your best friend. And as always don’t become predictable.
I recorded a video with some online matches against Vipergoomba who is a really good Gouken player. Hope it helps.

Thanks, I know I lost a couple rounds just due to not punishing fuerte’s mistakes and poor execution. I usually don’t drop short jab hands but haven’t been playing a whole lot of honda lately. I also chose U2 in the match in case i had a chance to do a random setup for it but never found myself with enough meter to do anything.
there’s a big group of things that punish headbutts in the tutorial video (first post)
as far as new characters go I believe cody can punish mp and hp headbutts with his ultra(450 damage!) and I saw Sanford punish one of Mike Ross’ headbutts with Sagat’s ultra 2.
Maybe one of these days I’ll just go down the list of all the characters/ultras added in super and post it here, man me having no job has turned me from a lurker to someone who actually wants to contribute now
on another note, didn’t Mike “our lord and savior” Ross look sharp against Daigo today? I think I saw him do FADC through a fireball to oicho twice, I’m jacking that fo sho
edit: seems like c.jab aswell as other pokes are really good in this match, kinda hard to tell because it looked like Daigo was just spamming sweep the first round, but Mike definitely looked very strong in round 2 with the c.jabs and that max range(?) oichio in the corner.
hey guys, i was gonna start a E.Honda Challenger thread where people can request matchups against hondas, but i was afraid of getting flamed. so i’ll ask here.
i play a bison and im thinking of going to a tournament next month. as you guys probably know honda is pretty good against bison and i was wondering if anyone who knows honda vs bison well could play a few endless matches with me for practice. my PSN is on the left. I’ll check this thread later and add anyone interested, thanks in advance!
I’ll play you, I’m not too great at bison but I feel like I’m decent enough at the match up, at the very worst we can learn it together provided we can get a green/yellow connection.
edit: I can also play a pretty basic chun li (my alt for guile/sagat/dhalsim/abel) so I can help with that if you need help with that matchup, I believe its 5/5 like bison vs honda but some say its rough for bison, maybe I just walk into too many S.HKs
cool i’ll add you chun practice sounds pretty good too. thanks for the reply. i also play cammy so i guess i can give you some cammy practice, but i wont be using her for the tournament so i probably wont be using her much.
Lol, thanks man. Mike Ross REALLY played that match much differently than he did the first time he meet Diago at Evo. Guess he really started preparing for this. Big ups to him.
Wish he would have prepared for that Sim match up to. ha
I have some comments to add to this matchup thread, and I want to see if any high level Super Hondas will agree with me.
I am having problems with high level (10,000+ BP) Abels, Ibukis, Makotos and El Fuertes. Anyone else? I think its related to the crazy mixups that all of them possess.
Characters I don’t have problems against: Sagat, Guile, Chun Li and Dhalsim.
possibly just don’t play enough dhalsims/chun lis/guiles, if you’re playing online that’s pretty understandable as half the guiles let me ultra them through their sweep or try to rush down like retards, that or you play some crazy style of honda the world has never seen.
as far as mixups go, just gotta block/tech/jump/reversal your way out, lots of brain-dead mixups in this game, its kind of annoying (cammy/rufus/abel/guy to an extent)luckily cammy/guy suck vs. downback but rufus/abel are considered bad matchups because there isn’t a whole lot honda can do about these mixups besides guess his way out, and they have either 700 ultra setups + divekick traps or an ultra that punishes all your reversals + they do like 200 damage per command throw (here comes another mixup) or like 300 with a stepkick–>s.hp–>cod–>c.hpxxwheelkick or airgrab combo (more mixups!!!) :(. Just be aware of your options and don’t be afraid to pop someone with an EX so long as they’re not safejumping you. worst case is you burn a meter and are freed from it all, best case is you spent a meter smashing them for 160-200 and they get to try to get back in on you, that or you get taken for a ride by abel, still sometimes you’ll get lucky, and that’s all you can really hope for sometimes.
edit: if you’re not sure how to go about these matchups, the best advice I can give you besides reading posts in this thread or fighting the matchups yourself is, keep those fuckers out, do whatever it takes to not get knocked down/dived on/dumb slut in your face spamming s.mp to sako combo you to death because you thought she would throw (youtube search:marlinpie)
if you have to hold upback and they aren’t good enough to punish, so be it
Hi I’ve been lurking around this thread for quite some time and felt like adding to it now.
Blanka’s Matchup
I personally feel that it’s 6-4 in Honda’s favor.
Preferred Ultra: Ultra I; Allows you to punish blocked blanka balls (All types).
If you’re having trouble with a short ball throw be sure to always be throwing out a c. :lp: with a buffered HHS.
I can not emphasize this enough as many blankas love abusing short ball throw or electricity. Having the jab out there ensures you punish them before they recover.
Watch their EX bars. EX Up Ball is the only ball with invincibility on start up so be sure to bait them out accordingly and punish with a :hp: headbutt.
If blanka has no bars it’s pretty safe to throw out a meaty c. :mk: into headbutt or whatever prefered combo you like.
Beware of Blanka’s j. :hk: It’s angle makes it almost impossible to anti air without an EX bar. Very similar to Vega’s j. :hp:? I forget which jump in it is. However, if you’re fast enough to catch it you can use a :hp: headbutt to force a trade.
Be careful of frame traps with electricity don’t always attempt to mash tech throws otherwise you’re going to eat it!
Be sure to condition your opponent by walking forward a bit and then blocking the ball. After awhile you can shorten the distance you’re walking to hold a charge for a headbutt and bait the ball out.
Beware of U2! It can punish blocked headbutts. I’m not sure about EX Headbutt though.
Blanka’s can punish :mp: and :hp: headbutts with his slide.
That’s all I could think of from the top of my head if you have any problems or tips with the advice above and I’ll clarify it!
