Honda Match-up Thread: After the war 2010 AE

So I’ve just made a quick video last night detailing the different ways you can punish any of ibuki’s moves that involves a kunai followup (except the tsuijigoe, not because it isn’t punishable, just because I’m lazy). The video quality isn’t the best, but it does the job.

Just some quick notes about the video:

  • U1 through the kunai must either hit honda’s head or completely miss for the ultra to land
  • The super punish has more room for error. In the video you can see at 0:09 the kunai sort of lands around his ass
  • With the U1 punish through the kunai followup to her dp, the timing and spacing can be very tricky. If you are too far out when you block the dp you might not be able to connect the ultra at all. This is only useful if you think they’ll wake up with a dp.
  • EX Buttslam might trade with the kunai after the hien if the hien doesn’t hit deep enough
  • It should be noted that none of the kunai punishes are on reversal timing (except ex buttslam).
  • The hien stuff at the end isn’t very useful due to the fact that they can just throw out a kunai after you activate ultra/super, and also the fact that it’s a complete guess as to whether or not they won’t follow up with a kunai. I just had this footage still on my computer from a while ago and I’d thought I’d put it up there.

EDIT: There are also a few other things that work to punish the kunai follow ups like lp headbutt and ex headbutt. They do have to be timed late. These punishes also work on LP kunai followups as well as the fierce kunai’s shown in the video

I think you’ll fin it says 4:6 although I still think it’s 3:7.

Because there’s only 2 characters with more health (if you dont wanna count hakan with oil), he probably has the most reliable high damage output of any character in the game, he has an invincible reversal that is always the answer. Though splash isn’t the best move, it has some invincibility and is safe-ish on block. He has a command grab with rly good range… Hhs… Hhs… oh ya, HHS!!!

Edit: before that shit even comes out… I’m claiming Alternate 2 Color 5, das muh shitttttttt

7-3s against the bottom quarter of the chart, he’s like mid-high or mid solid if you only count like the top 20 characters. hell, if you look at only the top 2 colors, he only has an advantage against cammy imo. rufus/abel beat honda and bison and balrog are even. this list is garbage of course, the IPW one was more accurate before this one, and is WAAAAY more accurate now.

Akimo/Hulk green aka Color #5 for me. Color #10 with Alt 2/manbaby Honda is boss too. Is it just me or his face paint a different pattern with this color?

I don’t see how we’re favored against gouken. He has a really good zoning game against honda if they know what they’re doing.

He doesn’t have anything besides fireballs and some okay pokes, like all fireballers its rough to get in on him but once you’re in he doesn’t really have anything besides counter and X retarded unsafe reversal(hurricane kick,ultra) if you just walk forward he has nothing to threaten you with besides half a jab’s worth of damage on a chipped fireball, he makes most of his money off banking you’ll be dumb enough to jump into his mp/hp fireballs and palming you on the way down so the fun starts all over.

all charged fireballs = please ultra/super me
don’t try to jump until the fireball has already left his hands, don’t jump at him if he has ultra because you’re gonna eat 40-50% he also can’t punish headbutts but he can use his counter on the buttslams send you flying away.

overall an okay matchup, he can give you some trouble if you get frustrated but the only way you’ll take any serious damage is if you get impatient and try to jump a fireball, all he can do is guess, and he loses ground on any MP/HP fireball where he guesses wrong and honda just waddles over to him and slaps the hell out of him.

5.5honda/4.5gouken imo, I’m no expert on this matchup and I bet we’ll hear a completely different story once the AE update hits consoles, seems like everyone who sat at mid-low-mid-high became great after Sagat’s reign of terror ended (chun,cammy,honda,bison,rose,dhalsim,guile,abel) so maybe he’ll get the changes he needs to become something that isn’t a shoto minus the uppercut :stuck_out_tongue:
