abels only OS is with ultra, AC exhb works just fine until then, which is a large portion of the match. Once he has it honda is forced to do what all OS’s make honda do, block
edit: oh sorry, slaps beat me to it.

just want to say this is probably the best match-up thread i’ve read so far, most of the tips are well thought out of and gives a lot of information/suggestions. Gives me ideas for Blanka against some of the characters i have problems with as well.
anyways… not sure if this is mentioned but i figured Blanka is similar to E.Honda in many ways… against Boxer and sometimes dictator who kinda relies on charge moves to punish… i often try to look for when they walk forward… once they do, HB is generally safe… obviously you have to beware of those who walk a bit and immediately crouch block, but even under those scenarios just gotta be more careful and read their walking patterns.

There must be some kind of secret to performing an auto-correct headbutt because I rarely get that off (against certain characters anyways). I have an easier time with auto-correct Ultra I than the headbutt.
Wake up EX block beats all option selects.
Seriously.
If you just wake up and block it can mindfuck the people who put you on pressing buttons. Getting your EX headbutt beaten out by a “psychic” EX SRK/Messiah is scary. I’ve played some sets recently with WestAB (Akuma) and iNerd (Chun/Cammy) and they option select everything, but when you just block their demon palm/dive kick/j.hp etc. their pressure becomes a lot less terrifying. Just block and tech throws and stay lame.
Shoutouts to iNerd and WE STAB for being gdlk.
All in the timing, start motion before they cross up and finish input after they cross up. You can do it quite late, and in most situations the later the better so you use HB invincibility to go through their attack.
Back on the sim matchup, Mr. SNK when you played Champ at Dev did he use U2? This mu is driving me bonkers, I know I can counterpick but I really really would only like to go to that as a last resort. Going to keep pluggin away on this in the meantime.
auto correct ex hb: dont even change direction just hit all 3 buttons as the attack crosses u up
playing sinister x often enough has made me realize that the matchup is 5-5 i take more chances however headbutting through fires and its a guessing game with which attack to use after neutral jump or jump in but once your in, its like CHRISTMAS

not great play but in tournaments its about winning
Thanks for reply and video. In the very first round thats pretty much how it goes, we trade, I try to guess a fb here or there and work my way in and score dmg playing my wake up games. But once he gets U2 if we are even thats when the trouble begins. I will see about getting a video this weekend or coming week. Everytime you jump in on him when sim has U2 is a guaranteed free U2. The sim just has to know how to TK it and time it. (7 active frame grab that ignores trip guard). If I have a large enough life lead before he stocks U2 then I can generally pull out the round, but if he has lead and I have to come to him, its a whole different ball game.
I like the empty into U2 to grab his AA. When that happens I cannot stop grinning. =D
understood when getting in you have a few options FA dash neutral jump fierce or jab if he cr fierces. Of course if your half way there over shooting a butt slam wouldn’t be the worst thing to do
I think what he meant by “well timed jump-ins” was to dance in and out of the area where ryu’s fireballs can be punished by jumpins, a decent example of this is the daigo vs. mike ross at evo (the first 20 seconds or so)
watch at 30-35 seconds in, ross does a mk jumpin and immediately gets stuffed by dp- even after he counterhits daigo. I was just thinking about how many times this happens to me when I do jump ins with early mp to ryus (hitting above him for counter hit), does srk beat the trip guard on block… and on hit? I kinda stopped doing mp to ryu because of it, but maybe im just timing something wrong.
it just depends on where you hit him, standing ryu is kinda tall and sometimes he can recover+throw a DP out before you land and jabxxhands him, kind of like crossing up zangief or T-hawk, I always get SPD’d even if I hit, so I just stopped crossing them up
Adon.
… wut?
Have any Honda players here ever had any problems with a Vega? If so, can you tell me what they were doing that was causing problems?
I totally understand if you don’t want to answer though.
I personally haven’t found a way to reliably anti air izuna drops. At full screen I punish with EX headbutt, but when I get crossed up, I try to get auto correct buttsplash. Which can be unreliable at times. This is coming from a person that has mained honda for a few weeks now, and have only played a handful of vegas.
Ex hb beats Iz. drop clean. Late HB’s all day. If you block the claw and not the drop punish with st. hk
i still say FA every non ex wall dive, im also going to start FA’ing every seth/sim limb attack and dash in if i cant counter st. FP them
Ya, but if you focus, they can just grab u… (its actually what most of the good ones are looking for) If its ex rainbow ball that’s 1 thing, but i’m not touchin focus against a good vega
A good Vega will do the double slash as soon as they realise you’re fa’ing .
Any other tips? I’m trying to go straight to the belly of the beast to sort out my problems with this matchup.
J.HK can stuff headbutt as AA if timed right, vega has stronger pokes than honda. Other than that, vega isn’t a huge problem, he hits like a girl.
i seem to have…somewhat playable connections with england soooo why dont you just play me or tamana
