Honda Match-up Thread: After the war 2010 AE

The thawk match is not 7/3 in honda’s favor. Maybe 6/4. If anyone wants to play my thawk with their Honda best out of 10 let me know. IMO a 7/3 match is one that everything that the 3 does is shut down by the 7.

Already did Hawk vs Honda with that Guy on your Avatar, it’s 6/4.

Handsome blue eyed black man? What? Whose he?

Is it just me or does jab hands not combo sometimes on another crouching Honda?

I’ve not tested but i’ve seen the first hit of hands disappear before now.
I didn’t give it much thought before you mentioned it but i have seen some funkyness happen in the mirror match with jab hands.

The first hit of HHS whiffs only if the cr.lp hits deep enough. If you’re going to jump in on the other honda you just have to adjust your spacing so that you’re not going to land right up against him.

I’ve had the first hit of HHS whiff on Cammy too :frowning:

Or learn to c.lk hit confirm into HHS and that will give you the spacing everytime on a crouching Honda.

Anyone have tips for the Dhalsim matchup? I’ve had the pleasure of getting raped (mostly) free by Arturo the last couple weekends and haven’t come up with anything to get some damage on the board. From 2/3 screen I can space out j.mp to beat out or trade with most of his anti air options, yesterday I kept taking the j.mp trade with back hk because it looked like it was slightly in my favor. I just don’t know what to do when he has space to throw fireballs. If I nj.hp over them I either land on the fireball, or land into his cr.hp which catches me. Not to mention he can whiff punish my cr.lp with st.hp from almost full screen, let alone trying to catch limbs with my st.hp.

I’ve won every round I’ve gotten in, but I guess that’s how it’s supposed to go. I just need to have more opportunities to get in, and I don’t know where they are.

Against sim, don’t be afraid to just chill fullscreen and whiff oichos for meter. Fighting dhalsim is all about waiting and recognizing patterns. You do not want to be standing at the tip of his far fierce at all the entire time and if he throws a fireball, jump it early or don’t jump it at all. Most people don’t understand that once the fireball is out, you have to block it or else he gets a far fierce or far roundhouse every time you’re off the ground. And if you’re going to jump fireballs without the intent of hitting sim, don’t throw out a normal so you still have trip guard up.

I found the new most annoying match for honda in SSF4 juri. her standing medium kick beats head butt and when she in your face doing her rushdown she really limits your options. so if any body has any match up tips for juri it would be much appreciated.

Got completely shut down by Perfect Legend’s Seth against my Honda.

Thoughts? I’m not even sure what I’m supposed to do. A couple times he jumped and I punished him for it, but he quickly stopped and zoned me out with Sonic Booms. :frowning:

zone her out hardcore and then hit her once.

If you have the life lead, just let him zone you out and run the clock. He has to work, really, really hard to reclaim the lead without closing in and taking huge risks.

If HE has the life lead, you just have to slowwwwlllyyy work him into the corner and punish his attempts to get out. If you feel that walljump riverdance BS coming, neutral jump fierce it. His forward teleport is garbage and you can do pretty much anything to him if he attempts it. It’s an interesting matchup because it really forces you to maximize Honda’s strengths (in this case, the ability to kill Seth if he makes two or three mistakes) and accept his weaknesses (you need godly patience here because your mobility options suck so bad at around halfscreen). Just be the lamer player and don’t feel like you have to come after him if it isn’t absolutely necessary.

thank you for that but i am really looking for a breakdown of this match because and ways to keep that fiery hoe down.

That happens on C.H. jabxx hhs, I’ve never had it whiff w/o C.H.
on another note cr. mk xx hhs doesn’t whiff at all

Stop doing random HB’s and splashes

-dive kicks beat hb clean once you’re airborne (which gives her an ultra juggle, ex or not)
-her j. mp > splash (again ultra juggle)
-she can punish hp. hb on block with lk. pinwheel (i haven’t checked the #'s but the chip does about the same % of bar as the punish)

  • her cr. hp can stuff j. mp clean like chuns s. mk
  • ex pinwheel on block is punishable by hp.hb/ lp. command grab on reversal (reversal is before she stops spinning) I think you can U1 that shit too
  • cr. lp xx hhs all fucking day
  • any meaty grab beats pinwheel on her wake up (if you know its coming, grab the shit outta her!)
  • HB goes over her lk. fireball like sagats
  • if she jumps AA her!!! EVERY time
  • nj. hp can lose to dive kick, to bait it nj. and wait for her to activate dive kick and reaction hk… the belly beats it clean and looks dope when u do it
  • if you have a life lead and she’s running away, DO NOT chase her, sit full screen with a db charge until she gets impatient… a dive kick IS coming… ex hb or U1 that shit, or if you see its ex dive kick, block it and punish with death

This goes for every matchup… if you can punish with a hb up close, you can punish with cr. lp xx hhs… so do you want to get 160 dmg and either waste 1 bar/ only gain a little, or do you want to get 250+ and hella meter?
Any other questions?

thank you for your input i will mos def use this to dominate this crazy korean starcarft playing hoe down thanks man really.

Don’t listen to freestructive. no j/k

Hey guys, can I have some matchup advice for Adon? Apparently it’s 7-3 on that matchup chart, and it’s very difficult for Adon, but either that’s not the case or I’m not playing right, tips on how to play Adon?

STOP DOING RANDOM HEADBUTTS AND SPLASHES.

-st. hp beats jag kick (the air-slashy thing). That’s probably the biggest issue in that match, because it beats HB at certain spacing.
-try and not block his shit, cause he’s just setting up a 50/50 to either grab or DP. the best way to deal with it is just punish all his jumps and specials before you block it, but if you dont do it right you can eat a lot of dmg.
-DONT JUMP AT HIM. His hk. dp is rly good. Also, adon has a shorter recovery animation than the rest of the cast so normal jump-in setups on him dont work, honda owns him on the ground anyway so you dont need to jump

  • Splash also beats Jag kick, i find it most useful after you get a grip on their pattern of jag kicks in “block strings”. if they nj they’re prolly gonna jag kick, I find a lot of adons like to set up B.S. after you block a jag tooth (wall dive), like jab, jab, strong xx jag kick. Splash that shit
  • Ex hb/ lp hb both beat jag tooth clean with their own respective timings. Be weary of them baiting hb with a lk jag tooth, they either want you to waste meter or do the slow ass lp hb so they can punish. If he’s yellow when he goes to the wall, the kick is going to track to you so be rdy for a free hb or U1
  • any jumping attack with any character beats jag tooth. If you’re 3/4 to full screen I like nj. fierce. if you’re within half screen I like nj. hk. If you have him in the corner and are within 1/3-1/4 screen from him I like j. mp to stuff him right at the wall which leaves you right under him on the reset. Caution: he has a dp, so be smart about deciding to pressure him after the reset. i.e. pay attn to his meter, can he fadc? has he done random dp’s w/o meter? does he just mash grab on every wakeup and reset?
  • st. hp can own the fuck outta jag tooth, but if you press it 1 frame late, you’re gonna eat shit. So I like to stay away from the moves with fat startup.
-Dont give him a free lifelead (this goes against any character)!!! Since adon does have a dp, he can turtle you out pretty effectively. and dp facd u2 hurts, so be smart with jump ins.
-The matchup chart does say 7-3 honda, and I can see the reasons they say that, but I personally believe that any character with a dp can be a serious threat to honda. Dont sleep on fools just cause you P’d on them the first round.
    -Down-back is your friend.
  • EX jag kick is an overhead. If you have a sizable lifelead, I wouldn’t worry about it too much, they’re only getting ~100 dmg for wasting a meter
-In a perfect world you would never let adon knock you down, but it isn’t perfect and people do random shit and we make mistakes so you’ll probably eat at least 1 knockdown in a match. Learn safejump Option select setups that any1 with a DP has on your wake up (shotos, adon, cammy, sakura, etc.).
-Please read this carefully, its important! SafeJump option select EX DP BEATS EVERY REVERSAL HONDA HAS. I repeat, EVERY REVERSAL! It also beats backdash on wakeup. So, what this means is that if they safe jump you on your wake up, YOU MUST BLOCK AND TECH, or you’re just going to eat dmg and get knocked down again, then you’re right back in the same shitty situation you were just in. This doesn’t mean block the jump in and mash O.S. tech, good players are going to bait it and punish you for it. What it means is that you have to block, be smart about teching. Late crouch techs work well, and Late stand techs on reaction to the grab is ultimately the way to go imho, but that requires a lot of practice and good reaction time. A good alternative to teching is block until you see the grab coming and jump back. Dont abuse jump back though, you’ll get punished for it, keep it as a wild card play when you NEED to get out, not everytime you get scared that you’re going to be grabbed. Teching is still better than jumping back.
-Once you get the tech, jump back, or he walks back/blocks trying to bait a reversal, The match immediately goes from his control back to yours. Now play smart and dont get knocked down again

A perfect example of everything I just said: (the safe jump O.S. dp part is around 4:20)
Any other questions?
