Home Depot Springs for extra tension on Sanwa JLF

Yeah I just switched to 1 HD and 1 JLF spring from 3 HD springs, its ok I guess. waiting on 2 Seimitsu springs though.

my problem isn’t the tension i think its the throw of the stick. I feel like the square gate has a short throw for some odd reason. Im used to happ sticks thats probably why I feel this way.

Ordered an octo gate as well to see if I can feel more comfortable with my execution.

I have these springs lying around LS-32, LS-56 and a spare JLF spring…besides the “ultimate mod” (don’t feel like taping the actuator) what can i do with these springs to increase the tension on the JLF

happ sticks have WAY shorter throw than a JLF…

octo gate will only make up, down, left, and right even longer throw… :frowning:

Ummmm how is the Home Depot spring on it’s own? I lost my JLF spring for my stick a long time and I kinda wanna go back since I’ve been using the Madcatz SE spring.

when i replaced the stock SE stick with my sanwa jlf from my other hong kong stick, i just used the spring from the madcatz and grouped it with the one in the sanwa stick. Getting that c clip off was a pain in the ass to do. I ended up destroying it. E clips are much nicer to deal with.

I also used the microswitches from madcatz stick. When I examined the pcb from the sanwa stick, it had chips in it which makes me understand why the connections were soldered to the switches themselves rather than using the connector plug.

The dead zone is a lot smaller with the madcatz microswitches as well, which is nice. It helps me do my FADC >> ultras much easier.

I did this mod but without a HD spring… my home depot doesn’t carry them. I purchased a pack of 2 half inch springs… kind of long and had to cut it down to around the same size as the JLF. I couldn’t add the JLF spring with the one I got. It works really good, it might be a tad bit stiff but will do till I get an LS-33 spring. Good mod, thanks

getting the e-ring off is a bitch, any tips :x

Get the thought out of your head that you’re going to break it, and pull lol. I used a small flat head screwdriver.

It was hard to actually put that stupid E-ring back on. Hurt mah finger :frowning: hehe

start with a flathead screwdriver, then pull off with needlenose pliers… that way you don’t lose the e-clip…

check out the JLF ultimate mod video on Youtube, the guy shows you how to take off the E/C clip easily.

How are you guys twisting the springs together? I’m trying to get two of the HD ones and the JLF one but can’t get the e-ring back on that way.

Anyone have any pics of the springs before going back on the actuator?

i found a very easy way to get it off and on. i use a very small flat head screw driver. move the clip as far off as you can. there should be just a tiny bit of space where you can fit the screw driver in at the middle part of the “c” and just twist the screw driver.

to put it back on, i use pliers. pretty much just squeeze it back on trying not to damage the actuator.

So I finally got the springs to twist. But now I feel what can only be described as a bump in one of the directions and it changes every so often. Is this the springs or is it the e-ring?

I wasn’t able to fit 3 springs together and be able to maintain a straight spring (if that makes any sense). 2 was the most i was able to fit together.

Well I was able to fit 2 HD springs inside eachother then the 3rd one i just pushed together with the 2 combined springs from the side. then slid the actuator through all 3 of them.

you might have to redo the springs… that bump is probably the springs binding… they will pop a bit… i’ve heard of people having this problem if the springs aren’t just right…

That’s what I figured. I’ll take a look at it in a little bit.

Got the bump out. The tension is perfect. My question now is is the tension using the JLF spring with a LS-33 spring, as shown in the video on page 1, the same as the JLF and 1 HD spring?

I didn’t get my JLF in the mail yet so i don’t know what this stiffness is all about. I did go to an arcade today during lunch with a co-worker. I played on one of the Street Fight Machines and the stick felt pretty nice. Didn’t really play long, but what is the main problem with the JLF that people have to add springs to it?

Also if i were to add a spring or mod it. Would it be considered cheating if i use it in tournaments?

sloppy with a long throw…

springs tighten it, but you still have the long throw, especially with the octogate…

ok well i went to Home Depot today and did the spring mod… i got to say it’s feels a bit better then stock… but i didn’t even twist the springs together… i just put the together and it worked great… well i have 2 TE sticks… one’s is a square and octogate… and it dont feel like there’s long throws… to be the moves are alot better… not too sensitive… but square gate seems to be easyier now then octogate…
