Home Depot Springs for extra tension on Sanwa JLF

Thanks OP for heads-up. I’m now using 2 of the variety pack springs with the stock spring taken out for the next step up the tension scale.

I had already done some electrical tape additions to the black plastic piece to reduce the throw and engage (tape on the thicker bottom part reduces engage; tape on shaft reduces throw). If you think about it, smaller throw/engage without changing the spring means that you’re getting less effective resistance moving the stick around than the stock setup has! That’s definitely too loose. So I think reduced throw/engage, stiffer spring tension to compensate, and original JLF clickies and pivot action provide the winning combination.

What are the dimensions of these springs?

anyone had any luck finding this at home depot in canada??

dude i just did this, feels way better, i used the oem spring and one spring from the pack(the one pictured above). I have an octo-gate coming on the way. Thanks for the this OP

unfortunately the home depot in Manhattan on 58th street did not have that particular spring assortment … but they did have a smaller 4 spring pack… that contains 2 springs that are the same diameter as the original jlf spring but its a “little” thicker gauge and longer in length… so all i did was cut it down and it fit perfectly!!! feels good so far! ill post a pic when i get home tonight of the packaging and the spring

i bought this pack today, they had them now (but not a couple weeks ago). using the stock sanwa and one shorter home depot spring. not the longer spring someone else was using.

Yeah, I only suggested using that 3rd longer spring and the 2 home depot springs if you play charge characters or like the feel of the MAS sticks, or Happ joysticks. Its pretty stiff, but nice if you are used to that.

if someone wants this pack, we can work it out so i buy em and ship em out to ya. cost of the pack, shipping, and maybe a convenience fee since i have to go a little out of my way for it.

are the home depot springs stiffer then the semitsu ls-32??

The springs in the home depot pack have a little less tension than the stock JLF I think. I don’t remember exactly, and I may be confusing it with the stock Madcatz SE spring (though I think it’s SE > JLF > HD in order of tension). And the JLF definitely has less tension than the LS-32.

What people are doing is combining springs to achieve greater stiffness. There are 4 springs in the pack of the correct type, so you can try different combinations of what you have with those 4 until you get what you want.

Um, sorry I must be dumb. How and where do I exactly put this extra spring on the JLF joystick I got? Can anyone post pictures of where I need to screw or unscrew to add it? Thanks

thanks for the info. I’m located in Canada and my home depot doesn’t have these! I may have to order an LS-32 or if someone wants to hook me up with 2 of these springs pm me.

I picked up the Home Depot springs this past weekend and put in one spring with the stock since it was getting really loose. Good fix!

ahh ok, thanks freshane for the link to that video. Everything is crystal clear now

I did the spring mod myself today. I just added a single home depot spring and its an amazing difference. I can actually dash in SFIV now without it feeling clunky. The stick on the square gate feels so much better. Everyone should try this who is having a problem adjusting to their arcade stick.

great with with homedepot spring x1 jlf spring x1 and the cherry mod. Feels perfect!

Forgot to post this. I took one of the Home Depot springs, dremeled it down and turned my LS-56 into a baby Happ stick. I love the feel of it along with an Octo gate.

Left is a LS-56 spring, middle is trimmed Home Depot and right is full Home Depot. I’d recommend trimming it like I did. I did another one with more tension and it was too hard.

Not really spring related but whats the lowest you can go without affecting the sticks movement? 23-24mm is the normal plate to ball top bottom, can you go lower like 18mm and still have full movement?

I just did this mod. It definitely is worth a try. More tension on my stick is good.

glad people are enjoying my find. currently switched to just 1 JLF and 1 HD spring (down from 3 HD ones) and on a square gate, its great.
