I just went to my home depot and picked it up ($4 as expected). I’m thrilled with the results, dashing and moves just come out a lot easier, seems to take less effort which is perfect.
I went with 1 HD spring + 1 Sanwa JLF spring (oem). The only question I have is concerning the e-ring / clip. Did anyone else’s e-ring get loser after removing it for the first time? It stays on but it spins now, lol. Hopefully they sell this piece in case I snap it off in the near future.
so props to OP for this, just picked up my springs and tried it out. if you play as a charge type character i strongly suggest this mod. I main blanka and second vega and there is a huge upgrade with these springs.
i went with 2 home depot springs, and one other home depot spring thats thinner but taller and it sits in the middle. i love it. ill post pics in a minute, gotta find my fire wire cable.
also, its worth it to take the trip for the springs, cause i also grabbed some more electrical tape and zip ties, some extra solder and cleaned up the inside of my SE stick. i love home depot.
In the pic below, the two home depot springs that are the “standard” are on the shorter ones. the additional home depot spring i added was the taller one, so 3 springs total. i love the feel of it now.
i kept the original JLF spring and put 1 of the smaller springs you show there in, and it felt stiffer, but i went back to my Happ stick because it still felt too loose and I feel as the throw on the JLF is too much.
I did see the other taller one you mention there, on the left, when I was looking through the pack.
I think tonight I’m going to try and do what you did, put all 3 of those in, and see how it goes. I play as Balrog as my main so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
If you have used Happ before, how does it compare to a happ stick after those 3 springs are in?
I have, i have a MAS stick that uses the happ. I can say that the stiffness is almost the same but the stick feels different because of the ball top. Stiffness is about as close as ive gotten to a happ stick in a JLF, which i like. I like the ball top better than the bat though because, for me at least, ball tops bake it easier to do the F D DF motion.
Gl with the spring mod, hope its what ur looking for.
Don’t even bother trying to get that clip off the Madcatz stock stick. I took it off to get a spring when I modded the SE I sold. It was a pain in the ass and I broke the crap out of the joystick.
you can get the e clip off, yes it is a pain, and also at home depot you can buy replacement e clips if they do break. they are called “C clips” and they are in the lighting-electrical section. same as where you would buy electrical tape.
you can also get replacement e clips or “c clips” at hobby stores that sell real R/C cars. these clips are used to hold the mini shocks and gears in place on the cars. just ask and im sure the people that work at the hobby store would be more than willing to help you.
only thing i can suggest to help remove the m@d |<atZ e clip is to use a very small flat head screw driver.
So you left the original JLF spring and added 2 more springs, right?
And the 2 springs that you added, were they the same size or one smaller than the other? Also, These are the springs from Home Depot that cost $4, is there a specific name/brand i should get?
My bad for all these questions, but I’m trying to make my JLF feel close to my Masstick too.
JLF spring with one home depot spring. Just a tad stiffer which is great.
For those with an Madcatz SE, try the stock Madcatz actuator with your JLf for this spring mod. I think the space within the actuator is a bit shorter. Which compresses the springs more and makes them stiffer.
If anyone else tries this (using the Madcatz actuator), could they report their result? I’ve been swapping springs out in different combos all day. Wanted to see what others thought.
also did the mod today. im using the sanwa spring and 2 of the home depot springs. it feels much closer to the competition stick i’m used to. thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences and knowledge
I jus did this mod today and I used 3 of the thick short home depot springs that were pictured in this thread and it feels really really nice now. just need an octo gate now.
