Yeah I usually do the badstone - zonk charge thing myself. Sometimes it bites me in the butt though when I accidently let go of the charge and get a zonk when I didn’t want one. The worst is when it happens after a focus hold - dash. I’ve actually seen that happen to Sasaki and Momochi once or twice (ever.)
Yeah, it’s really smart, something I actually took note of to do more in shoto/fireball match-ups. And I know that feeling lol, It’s like I try to release zonk during my dash to cancel it out but instead i let it go a little too late and whiff zonk out of nowhere. I’ve had a few times where I forget to tap the button to throw the bad stone upon picking it up and accidentally just holding it till lvl 3.
-cries- So I should be whiff punishing cr. MK with cr. LK…FML FFS SMH…
My footsies are an embarrassment. I have serious work to do before ECT5
Something I’ve been meaning to share that I dunno if many of you know: You can charge zonk during the round start countdown. This also works for charge characters (as most people know) and Balrog’s TAP. There is enough time to charge Cody’s Zonk all the way to level 3 before the match even starts. This is actually quite helpful as many players like to open the round with a fireball as it’s a relatively safe range for Ryu/Sagat/Gouken/Akuma to throw one. More experienced players of course don’t do it all the time but having level 3 zonk charged means that you can punish the fireball right away.
I had a brain storm on a way to try and help make the safe jump a bit more consistent for the manual timing after a LK Ruffian. I know that the safe jump is very very well known already I just thought I could find a way to make it a bit easier to setup. I hope it helps.
While not entirely helpful persay I created a video to show all of the errors Cody has (other than Ultra 2 hitting an airborne opponent and then the opponent recovering 16F before you do which I’m not 100% sure is actually an “error”)
I also tweeted this to @Yoshi_OnoChin (Ono’s twitter) and @TheComboFiend (Combofiend’s twitter) and sent a message to Combofiend on www.capcom-unity.com with a link to the video asking them to forward it to whomever is responsible for dealing with fixing this kind of stuff in AE2013
By far the most difficult video I’ve ever made lol.
Found a safe jump specifically against cammy after ex ruffian,
After ex ruffian ender, backdash > quick FULL crouch > jf whatever normal
Cool thing is that it’s also a safe get away from the corner when you put yourself into the corner after ex ruffian, her autocorrect dp will get blocked
@Eternal Good stuff! You could also have included that sometimes (have only tested on Sagat while practicing reactions) the dust of U2 will hit, and also the first pipe-hit, but then Sagat can block the rest. I don’t quite remember, and I don’t have an xbox to test it atm. It could also have been that the first pipe hit whiffed, the second hit, but the third he could block.
Check out this setup. I won’t get to my xbox in a couple of days, but I’m curios to know, is this an unblockable against Sagat?
EDIT: It seems the link isn’t working regarding the timestamp, but I mean the setup at 34 seconds.
It’s not unblockable, I tried the setup and different timings to get it to be unblockable but it didn’t work. Sagat can autocorrect dp you out of the setup. I’m assuming he just did it to time some sort of safejump which then again wouldn’t work unless he did it as soon as he recovered from an ex ruffian where a jumpin/crossup wouldn’t touch sagat
Ah, too bad. Thanks Seikano!
I watched Mike’s video and I don’t know … I use different OS against Sim.
His backdash is slow and he can teleport both ways. That is why I usually use slower normals on his wake up.
After ex ruffian you can back dash stand jab j. hp for a crossup hp, reversal dp whiffs, and if you mess it up it’ll hit in front so it’s kind of a mixup if you get it the first time I guess.
But does anyone have any setups for like a passthrough in the corner? I’ve done it twice on Vega with blocked ex zonk fadc forward dash, was wondering if theres other characters this works on, done it on Dan too now that I think of it.
The following info is pretty dry, but I thought I’d post it anyway since I found my notepad with all the damage/stun values for the whole cast…
There are a fair few characters for whom Crack kick > EX CU won’t fully juggle with all the CU hits, either mid screen or in the corner. The standard damage/stun is 290/430, which applies to 22 of the 39 characters. Here are the non-standard ones:
290/430 (mid) 270/400 (corner): Blanka, C. Viper, Evil Ryu, Ken, Ryu, Seth.
290/430 (mid) 250/370 (corner): Cammy, Gen, Rose
290/430 (mid) 230/340 (corner): Dan, Rose
270/400 (mid) 290/430 (corner): Rufus
270/400 (mid) 270/400 (corner): Makoto, T. Hawk
270/400 (mid) 230/340 (corner): Yang, Yun
Rose is in there twice because she seems to juggle in different ways depending on the timing. Rufus is in the only character who juggles better in the corner!
Fuck Blanka. It’s like he was designed specifically to make Cody’s combos not work properly
ExZonk fadc only goes through Vega when he is blocking low so you get a surprise (crossover) hit.
GroundedSF: Good to know, thanks!
Was experimenting with OSes earlier today. (something I always forget to actually work into my game lol. I tend to just play everything by ear and forget about OSes and around half of the very safe jumps/unblockables I’ve actually found on my own. Not good for competitive play for sure but whatever.)
Anyways I dunno if this OS is well known but in the Bison matchup OS HK Ruffian does a good job shutting down a bunch of his options. NOT ALL but a bunch. For example you do back throw safe jump OS HK Ruffian Bison’s options look like this:
EX Scissor kick - trades (I think Cody can get a MK or EX Ruffian after, not sure.)
EX Psychocrusher - Trades
EX Devils Reverse - OS beats this clean
EX Headstomp - OS Whiffs Cody recovers first (early enough to punish with cr.LK at least)
Backdash - Caught by OS
Teleport - Bison escapes and recovers 5F before Cody
All things considered having it beat or trade (In Cody’s favor) with 4 out of 6 of Bison’s reversal options is pretty good. Especially since 1 of the 2 left Cody can still punish. Basically only good option Bison has is teleport and there are other OSes to specifically target that to make him hesitant to use it.
Here are a collection of meaty set ups as well as a Cody playlist im trying to build up, and a playlist of my own cody vids.
This is by far my favourite, and probs my favourite setup Ive ever found (and Im a very set up player in every game I play) I like this one so much its an actual mix up as opposed to most meaties which consist of “Yeah! I get an extra 2 frames of advantage!” And then you continue with you normal block strings, you dont actually do anything with the extra frames. This is an empty jump low meaty, meaning you mix the up and get a combo out of it (without spending bar and hitting 2 one frame links and a two frame link that is).
Here are two other pretty standard meaties, the MK ruffian one is really easy to do though.
These are the playlists I was talking about, I dont know if its possible to let other people edit them, but you can suggest vids and I will add them. The playlist is meant to be a mix of tutorials and tech videos, I want to avoid clogging it with combo videos and character specific stuff:

Heres my own personal cody vids, as of making this thread the only vids in it are the three below but if you see this thread in the future there may be more.
There, its in the right thread D:
