I’ve been messing with that empty jump low for a few months now and it rarely works because people know that you’ve jumped way too early to hit with an air attack. It only works when they mash stand tech mindlessly, which is rare for good players…
Meaty setups in general I find quite useless against good players, they’ll never mash normals on the first available frames. But they can be good in the sense that you get even more frame advantage, throwing the opponent’s timing off.
Yea i feel like vs good people you need to do non meaty “meaties” and delay it by some frames like a normal frame trap lol. watching momochi do an super delayed cr fp vs jayce the ace at ncr was so sick vs a fierce seismo feint.
As for empty jump lows you’ve gotta condition them to just block on wake up, best time is to use it is during a safejump. Or after an air reset like let’s say crack kick > fmp > jf > empty low.
I only tried it with level 3 so I dunno if level 1 and 2 zonk go under the messiah kick as they have larger hurtboxes and less upper body invincibility. Frankly though there is no reason to use anything but level 3 zonk in this game unless it’s because you want level 1 zonk to combo after a MP. Level 2 is just useless
How have I not seen this combo used before? I’d be quite surprised if no one knew this was possible but I just found this mid screen combo myself.
s.HP (CH) - EX Badstone - f.MP - cr.HP - HP Criminal Upper. 459damage 809 stun.
Turns out that after a ch s.HP - EX Badstone the f.MP is at EXACTLY the right range to hit on the 2nd active frame making it +7F on hit allowing for a combo to cr.HP. This is a fairly noticable increase over the standard of s.HP (CH) - ex badstone - cr.HP - Criminal Upper. which is 437damage 764stun.
@Livegrenade The empty jump cr.lk meaty setup whiffs if done on the first frames possible, nonetheless, it’s useful against stand tech mashing. Same thing with the MK Ruffian, the cl.hp whiffs when done early.
@Ostkatten Pretty much all the meaty set ups I use with all the characters I play arent frame by frame tight, then they’re too hard to do for the small reward you get. It’s still good because standing fierce has active frames up the ass so its mad lenient.
And the notion that only bad players mash stand tech is dumb, its so good in this game, why wouldn’t you do it (Throw have invincibility because lol capcom) , you see players like infiltration and Justin do it all the time. It’s especially good against Cody since he has no combo-able low.
Well if they are in the corner you might as well go full hog and do clHP - EX Badstone - f.MP - clMP - crHP - HP Criminal Upper for 482 damage 830stun and it builds 3/4ths of a bar back. (60meter for clHP - 32meter for f.MP - 28meter for clMP - 36meter for crHP - 20 meter for Criminal Upper startup - 10meter for Criminal Upper on hit (5 for first hit then 1meter for each of the 5 tornado hits.) = 186meter. 1bar = 250 meter. So you spend 1bar and build back 74.4% of a bar.

Doing some experimenting with close MK again. Found if you have the opponent in the corner and do a crack kick then f.MP reset, while the opponent is in mid air reset do close MK it will put you at JUST outside of throw range (kara throws of course still work and simply walking a smidge forward and throw works but just doing a standing throw will whiff.
Unblockable setup I saw the otherday that I hadn’t seen before. AFAIK only works on Seth
EX Ruffian Kick - cr.HP - far s.LK - fj.HP
It’s not frame tight though so if Seth just crouches on wakeup it whiffs he doesn’t even have to do a crouching attack. And most of his normals will move his hurtbox in a way to make it whiff, and a close HP will hit you out of the air, but if Seth just tries to block it then he can’t block left or right.

Also I think the setup I did after the ultra hit infront, havn’t tested it but I’m pretty sure I saw him blocking crossup when I watched the replay back.
I don’t think the Seth could have dp’d it as well as the cr hp was spaced above his head.
