Hahaha, your right your right. I was just super hype and hyping up Momochi in the moment, they both played super solid. Unfortunately Snake Eyez was eliminated by DRS MCZ Chris. Jayce must’ve been nervous because I’ve played him alot using Cody and he also plays Brian Jeon tonsssss who also plays Cody.
My god Adam is my boy! The night before I was helping him test his setups on Rufus, I was super skeptical saying “Ricky wouldn’t do that ricky wouldn’t do this…” and jeeze, everything he said Ricky would do he did and he punished accordingly. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to pull it off…what you say is true Eternal, they both are very salty at times.
Tmo Momochi vs Infiltration is going to be the last match of winners bracket. send him yo powahz
Yeah but lets be honest, your Cody and Brian Jeon’s Cody compared to Momochi’s Cody is like Mike Ross’s blanka compared to TSRAI’s. Solid but Momochi and TSRAI are just on another level with those 2 characters. Def think nerves played a bit into it and made him second guess a lot of attempts to punish he should have gone for but was likely worried it was safe.
Yeah I definitely do know that, I experienced it yesterday lol. But I wasn’t saying that our Cody’s should’ve helped him win but, Jayce normally punishes the unsafe things we do that Momochi was doing as well, I was just clearing that up since you said he might’ve had inexperience in the cody MU. It definitely was the nerves and lack of player experience, I don’t think Jayce has ever played Momochi or at least his Cody ever. In pools he wanted to play him before their stream match but didn’t get the chance to, before I got to play Momochi he took Cody and Viper to the training room and practiced nothing but the momo combo and things like cr.lk > HP CU > fadc > st.jab > cls.mp > cr.fierce
I’m excited for him today although I predict him using Ken against Infil
Bsida’s Ken vs Laugh’s Ryu was a cool match. Def made Ken look a lot more slept on and overall solid than people give him credit for being since he doesn’t have Akuma’s vortex or Ryu’s zoning people just kind of forget he still has really good mixups, pressure, and speed in general.
Yeah he’s really good, drs chris was there to back him up too. i felt so bad for chris king vs chi-rithy, would get so close and then just get steamrolled in the end. the vega cammy match just looks so terrible.
If done on a wakeup opportunity yes, on block no. The stand tech attempt would grab Cody out of the cls.MK. If it is done AFTER the cls.MK is blocked then yes but it’s unlikely they’d stand tech given the distance.
Guys, could you help me out. I remember seeing either an unblockable or safe-jump setup on DeeJay, but I can’t find it anywhere. Does anyone know about this?
I have been going to a few tournaments and I didn’t want people to study my setups haha.
Also thought Capcom wouldn’t like Cody so much if they knew he had unblockables against a good portion of the cast.
Yea, thats me. I thought I could have played so much better against Laugh but it is what it is. My match against JFuerte was kind of weird, I didnt give him any room to breathe the first game which is how I won, but he just got too much momentum the next 2 games and I couldn’t adjust. Anyways was a great experience, my first major playing as Cody. Met some cool ppl like Seikano and Momochi, and had a fair amount of casuals and money matches.
I took the liberty of recording your match from the twitch stream and uploaded it to youtube for all to see.
From my own personal breakdown I’d say that some of the issues you had (IMHO) are:
Unsafe zonk guesses early on.
Dropped combos (mostly the big one where you got chained s.LP instead of cls.MP after the dizzy, but there were a couple others.)
No followups to crack kick (This is a big one that I think you could easily fix with practice.)
Not OSing your cr.LP / LK with MK Ruffian when using it as a poke.
Not focus dashing (you get about a 30% increase to your dash distance by doing a focus attack canceled to dash right away instead of a regular dash, even more if you karaed the focus with s.MK or s.HK)
Things you did great:
General blocking
Spacing during mid screen footsies. (Assuming that your standing up to make Ryu’s cr.MK whiff was intentional then you had amazing spacing sense :P)
pressuring with f.MP and staggering your cr.LPs
Sigh… just when I think I can’t find anything else stupid about Cody that Capcom fucked up on I find something else.
Cody’s chained s.LP with knife has no proximity block hitbox
Cody’s knife throw has no proximity block hitbox
Cody’s badstone while charging is the only chargeable fireball that doesn’t have a proximity blocking hitbox while charging.
Capcom should be hiring you to work on quality assurance
I had one of your other bug finds affect me in a match the other day - trying to punish a whiffed tatsu from Akuma with knife crouch hp resulted in me getting hit…
That sucks. There has only been 3 GOOD bugs I’ve found so far though, b.MP can’t be counterhit, s.MK with knife has better hitbox positioning (but bigger hurtbox), and Badstone loses it’s counterhit property 7F before the move becomes active. (E.G. you can only be counterhit up to 22F even though the move has 29F of startup)
The bug fixes alone will go a long way towards making Cody a better character assuming that they actually FIX them.
Airborne crack kick (fixed in SFxT)
proper crouching knife attacks
Able to charge badstone and release it when you let go of the button instead of waiting 20F till the next charge level
Badspray having 20F extra recovery because they forgot to set the interrupt frame properly (fixed in SFxT)
This is pure gold!
Momochi has got that match up down. His spacing is amazing: he puts himself in a spot where cr.mk will only hit Cody if he is holding back (triggering the block animation when one of Ryu’s move would come out), except he puts his stick in the neutral position and whiff punishes any cr.mk.
I always wanted to implement this in my game but it’s nigh impossible online but it’s so good seeing that it actually works. Also, I guess it only works on a scared opponent who would not try and walk in Cody’s cr.lk/f.MP range.
That was like right after I was 3-0’d by Momochi, who then 3-0’d Julio, then 2-0’d Mikey (XsK) haha. I remember Mikey asking Momochi what he should’ve been doing more and Momochi told him to watch his spacing and actually throw more c.mk.
Another genius thing he does is that he always keeps his charge after badstone, like 1:15-1:18, you can tell he does it from mid-range all the other times because after he throws a stone he does c.lk or crack kick for footsies or to resume pressure.
Take a look at my brand new Eight Arc Mikey was using. 8)
