he does a c.lk u2 OS, that’s the reason ex cu comes out on block and the ultra vs ex ground pound. seems rather odd tho, why not doin it with s.lk?
He’s fucking it up, he does it correctly with s.lk at ~0:34. He’s really bad with this motion…there are a lot of matches where he jumps up, gets EX CU, etc.
Also, it is possible to OS it with a jab and not get EX CU, you just need to have perfect timing. For normals that are special cancellable you have to delay the command input, but Fei Long and Yun users do it a lot against backdashes (cr.lk ~OS qcf LP - on hit/block standing jab comes out, on wiff lunge or rekka).
What I really like and stole from him is the cr.lp buffered MK Ruffian, that shit is godlike. I’ve punished wiffed stepkicks from Ken with it and felt like a boss. I’m not really confortable with the motion though…a lot of times I don’t do it fast enough and get the Ruffian anyway and sometimes I do it too fast and either hit MK while it’s still in downforward and also get random jumps. I really wish Cody had better walk speed to play footsies.
c.lk xx EX criminal upper beats ex karakusa btw.
do it with c.lk xx mk ruffian, c.lk comes out at the same speed, but has longer range. you don’t have to buffer the mk ruffian fast, just do it like a regular combo but do mk ruffian ( HOLD MK) . the result is, if c.lk connects/is blocked, mk ruffian comes out. if c.lk whiffs, mk ruffian will not come out.
The reason he wants to use st.lk is because its not special cancel able, aka the unsafe ruffian does not come out on block/hit. Only u2 comes out on wiff
He’s referring to my last paragraph.
Cr.lp has a better hitbox and more active frames so it’s better to use it in the situations I’m referring to. I usually use cr.lk for punishes and whiff punishing.
Not sure if it’s know or not, but I found an unblockable on Akuma and Oni.

If you OS Ex Rocks, you get major punish on backdashes and reversal LP shoryu, decent punish on backwards teleport (I was unable to make rocks autocorrect for a forward throw, since it’s a really weird jumpin, I don’t think you can time it late enough for it).
Also, on a somewhat related note, here are the characters EX Ruffian goes under: Zangief, Hakan, Seth, Gouken, Gen, Abel, Sagat, Vega, Balroga, T. Hawk and, obviously, Akuma and Oni. There’s probably room for some extra shenanigans beyond the usual safe jump off EX Ruffian on these characters, needs exploring.
PS.: Don’t buy eletronics from China.
Momochi actually pulled that out on RF in SSD. Good to know that it works on so many characters though.
Is this a safe jump on 4+ frame reversals?
Momochi’s setup was slightly different. He backdashes and wiffs a standing jab after backdash. I tested this a lot in training mode and the best result I got was simply a jump in that makes Sagat’s reversal options wiff, I’m not sure if I’m fucking it up and it should be an unblockable/tricky crossup or whatnot. Also, Sagat’s wakeup timing is slightly slower, so normal safe jump setups don’t work in him.
Also, maybe I wasn’t clear. What’s show on the video is only worth doing against Akuma/Oni, because they can’t block/escape it unless they’re aware of the setup. It is not a safe jump at all (which I define as a jump where you land in time to block any reversal options), it just so happens to make reversals wiff. Unfortunately, you don’t go through the other characters that are easy to perform unblockables on (Viper, Cammy, Fei), but maybe there are other setups against them.
It’s not worth doing on anybody else. The list of characters I posted is just to indicate the characters against whom the EX Ruffian behaves differently, in case someone wanted to mess around with it…usually you land right besides them, but against these you cross under them and land on the other side. After EVO you’ll try to find more stuff off of this.

He’d have won EVO had he sticked to Cody.
Wow. I never thought of counter hit st.hp into ultra 2. God like reactions by momochi.
As I posted in the other Match up thread, I might be the most person on earth who has experience in Gen match up . My friend (The Gen player) found this glitch while we were testing some stuff in training mode yesterday.

Cool stuff  Alternate 1 ftw.

I think that has something to do with ur dashing / distance in the video. prolly wanna test it myself. but if it’s for real - nice find and WTF?!
btw, the best matchup knowledge comes from playing that character ^^ (I kinda like “mained” gen at the end of sf4 and in the beginning of ssf4)
I agree that playing the character helps you a lot for real. But really, after playing against Gen all through vanilla and SSF4 and now in AE (Although I used a different character before)… You still learn SO MUCH about the character so I think that with a few practice sessions I should be able to play him :clapdos:
Momochi Cody.

I think Sasaki is a little bit better than Momochi since it is evident that he knows his matchups better in general. Momochi seems to use his raw skill at the game and then improvises depending on the situation.
I don’t know if this is already known or not, but I recently found that Cody’s backthrow safe jump doesn’t work on Hakan. It whiffs completely. Idk if this has to do with Hakan’s hurtbox or if hakan just wakes up faster than other characters?
I don’t get it, I watch these videos and these codys are free to pressure all day, when I try it I get blown up by random DPs and focus attacks.
