Before this nerf even arrived, we would talk about low-HP characters (like Ammy for example) and how some people were like, low health is bad compared to a character with a lot of health, but more experienced players knew that health doesn’t matter. Sure it’s something to consider, but it’s not that big of a deal when the goal is not to be the one who decides when to block. All the low-health characters in this game are awesome until they get hit, so why can’t Sentinel be among them? What makes the already awesome Sentinel not good enough to be among those low-mid health characters? Sentinel has everything a character needs to destroy and if you’re depending on his health insurance, then you’re doing it all wrong. Be smarter players and learn to kick some teeth in.
…or go back to eleven years ago and MvC2 til you’re ready for 2011 where we got patches that could change the game.
The post is silly. Why is it? Because unlike Amateratsu, or Zero, or Chun-Li, or Arthur, Sentinel has a hughmugous hitbox. Sure ammy has low health, but she naturally ducks under EVERYTHING. You can stand there and she automatically goes under every projectile. not only that she is skinny so this makes a lot of stuff whiff against her naturally.
Other low health charactes make for it with speed and priority. Like zero for example. Zero is really short and really fast. A lot of combos simply don’t work against him because of his small hitbox.
Not only is Sentinel like way bigger than the average character, his hitbox is so big that certain setups and crossups only work against him. He's a bigger target and much easier to hit. Not only that, he's really really slow. You can make him fast, but you can't fly and dodge all day. He needs higher than normal health. He is not some tiney tiny character who is hard to hit and naturally evades stuff because of his hitbox
Im with you on this topic, Im not gonna sweet the change, my sent will be in the back like he’s always been.
But the only thing I can think of that seperates Sent from the other highly versitile low HP characters is his extra large hitbox, and relatively slow attacks.
Small hit boxes doesn’t take away from the fact that Sent has HYPER (not super) armor on m, c.m, and S. Not to mention HSF, which beats 90% of everything in the game, easily, and Harddrive, which is COMPLETELY INVINCIBLE.
And he DOESN’T need the HP. He deserves counter matches, like everyone else. And the fact that his HP is low, isn’t making many of his matchups worse. In fact, I found that people are stupid enough to think that the HPloss is enough to warrant trying to rush him down, while I hit them once cause and they die, cause Sent’s damage is fucking godlike.
Amy, Phoenix, Magneto, Viper, Storm, and Wolverine are all HUGELY represented in the major regions. Sent’s HP never really carried him. Any player using sent as an anchor, wasn’t really getting hammered on, and would barely win a match due to a ton of HP. They won because Sent’s Assist, and Damage are amazing.
I just realized how many people were trying to rushdown my Sent last night online and how it’s probably because of the health nerf. Love the patch now, I wiped the floor with everyone who tried it.
Exactly. Honestly, it’s gonna be a while before we get the real feel of how this will affect him as a whole. Too many mooks are challenging him now, and dying for it.
Dude, this guy has less health then wolverine and he’s not nearly as fast. The logic behind designing characters is that smallers characters are harder to hit and faster, which is why they can take less hits. Biggers characters are easier to hit which is why they take more damage. In that case we should give Zangief 850 HP in SSFIV because he’s such a beast up close.
I know you’re going to go into this super armor/hyper armor thing as the justification. And if this were MVC2 I’d say you’re right on the money. Truth be told, Sentinel normals are SLOOOWWWW. Ever take a look of Justin Wong working Sentinel with pretty much any character in the game? This dude is baiting out those slow and unsafe normals and making Sentinel look like a straight up bitch. A normal can have all the greatest benefits in the world but if its slow and unsafe on block and hit, then you have some problems. Sentinel has to attack sometimes, and you can get messed up for attacking. If he didn’t have armor he’d be unplayable.
Well if Wolverine didn’t have a fucking adamantium skeleton, I’m sure he’d get straight worked by a giant ass robot. Don’t be retarded. Fact is, ONE read by sent, and any character in the game has a pure chance at death.
What sets him apart, is that one read can be made by utilizing your opponent’s speed against him. Read a drill claw in the air? Boom, hard drive, which combos into 700k.
Beserker slash from across screen? Standing mid. 820k.
Not to mention that he’s so user friendly, you have to straight choke to fuck a combo up.
Sorry but it’s completely backwards to give a huge character low health. Also this is no longer Marvel now that Capcom is just changing things. Now I really really really REALLY miss the old days before patches.
900k health for the biggest target in the game makes no fuckin sense at all, especially when wolverine have more health than him.
of all things they could have done (l3 x factor nerf, damage nerf in general), shaving off 400k of his health is clearly the wrong and lazy path, especially when the game was only released less than 2 months.
if that happened, dr. doom would have been even shittier than he was at the end of mvc2 life span.
dr. doom was in pretty much all teams for the first two years of mvc2. theres like less than 3 doom players by the end of mvc2.
When faced with a good Sentinel player, Sentinel’s health was NEVER what scared me. It’s those damn armor moves and I know that if the player is good enough to start his combo after a hit, I am most likely dead. People need to stop crying about the health loss and get good with him instead of spamming standing and crouching H. As Mike Ross once said, “You can nerf the character but you can’t nerf the player” I couldn’t think of a better example than this nerf.
After ranting for a day about the idea of the patch in general this nerf has yet to affect me, sure you cant just bull your way through a whole team and now its actually possible to kill sent in 1 long combo but overall this nerf has only affected the people on the sent wagon.
He is no longer a character that has ZERO reasons not to play him somewhere on your team.
You don’t play as Sentinel, you pilot Sentinel. That’s how it was in MVC2 and that’s how it is now thanks to the nerf.
Actually in MvC3 you can use whatever the heck you want. You are not limited, except for 3 characters and you know what characters are… XD…
Sentinel with this nerf will be way up because noobs with sent will be killed fast and open the way to, learn some fuckin play after learning the easy as abc combo’s, or change the character and still, learn to play. And pro players will not have any problem playing him, they will still play him, only with some tweaks…
So true, I could never get myself to take Sent off my team because I felt like there is no better character to replace him with… After the patch I feel like now I can play those characters that I actually wanted to play and not feel like I’m gimping myself.
High level players do not fear Sentinel and def will not be affected by this. I’m starting to really believe that this nerf was to kill the Sentinel noob train since all of the key elements that make Sentinel so good are still there untouched(armored moves, invincible Hard Drive, OP combos)
Overall Sentinel is still the character that can kill you from anywhere on the screen just by 1 touch, even if the 1 touch is a normal throw mid screen.
Toning down the damage across the board would have been the smarter decision and at the same time the wrong decision bc:
The damage is too high in general with all characters(2 combos to kill almost anyone is just too brutal for a fighting game)
If damage was lowered across the board time up wins would be almost every game since the game seems to be designed to give everyone a chance, so new players don’t need to learn the longest combos possible just to win.
They should have patched some of the real complaints and not just the 3 things they did if they planned on doing anything at all.
