Thanks for that
Question : When trying to make a .gif out of a video in Photoshop, how can you crop it to make it “avatar-sized” for websites like SRK or Dustloop?
Also, if I wanted to create a .gif with moving .gif images (e.g .gif sprites and the such) how do you go on doing this? I have tried creating a .gif with a moving .gif image, but when I render it as a web device, the .gif image that I have inserted will not move.
Also, I know that this is pretty frowned upon within threads, but is anyone willing to help me out in making my .gif from a video? My Vegas 8 is f’ing up and I can’t convert my video file into an .avi. Please PM me if interested.
Thanks in advance.

I assume it’s possible to crop the frames for animation in the later versions of Photoshop. I’m using CS2, so I know I can still use Image ready. From my understand later versions don’t have Image Ready anymore, so I’m not sure on how to open videos and view the frames in newer versions. Also in regards to moving sprites, you’ll have to look up help in Photoshop search for animations. It’s fairly straightforward once you get the hang of it.
CS3 and up have animation capabilities as long as it is the “Extended” version iirc. Also i would recommend using the mp4 format. When I used to use .avi I would sometimes get errors but .mp4 haven’t given me any trouble.
When making your own gifs from youtube, I would recommend downloading the youtube video using a website such as Dirpy which can download the video in .mp4 and then open it in photoshop by going to File > Import > Video Frames to Layers
In cutting it down to 19.5kb (a very limiting size for gifs imo) I try to keep the number of frams <10 if I can help it. If the video has fewer colors then that helps too because the more colors you have the bigger the gif as well. IMO the 3 main things that affect the size of a gif

Hope this helps.
Kind of a shot in the dark, but you guys wouldn’t happen to know what font is used here:

?
Or perhaps something similar?
Good question Suicidal. Speaking of fonts, where’s a good place to get comic book fonts like the one above or the one Shatterstar has currently in his AV?
So, I saw this .gif and thought to myself, “How in the hell did the designer go about doing this?” More importantly, how do you get an animation inside of the text? I’ve been trying to figure this one out for hours now. Not to mention, it’s a .gif that appears to have no color loss, looks super clean.

Edit: I’m using Photoshop CS3 Extended.
^He probably just set the text as the top layer and made it visible throughout the animation. So in theory the the animation is hidden underneath the text layer.
Make a text layer over the picture.
Type something, probably big in font size
ctrl+click on the small square icon on the text layer(I circled it in blue in the pic)
Click the picture layer below the text layer
Press the “Delete” key
Hide the text layer
Theoretically, you can do this to each layer of the animation in photoshop by repeating the select + delete steps
Example
Just figured out an alternative method.
[]Image layer(s) go on top of Text layer
[]Right click image layer and choose “Make Clipping Mask”

You’re done.

^ Thanks alot, bro.
I wish I would have read this alot sooner, but I was already in Photoshop trying to figure this thing out.
I got pretty much the same effect:

Just did it really quick.
Started with a transparent layer
Applied an BG Color on next layer.
Text on another layer.
Made a selection on the text, “delete” key.
Put image below all layers.
Then went into the animation stuff.
I’ll try your method in a second savaii.
Again, thanks a million.
Hahahaha. Nice.
Glad you figured it out yourself. Best way to learn imo.
looks at vi’s image sad face :<

Having some trouble fellow photoshoppers.
I’ve got a nice resolution before I do a Save For Web into a GIF. However as soon as I choose gif as the out it dramatically decreases file size and resolution, no matter the options I toy around with there. What’s going on with that? The image is a jpeg, about 54kb in size, but I can’t get a GIF about 12kb for some reason. Thoughts?
Need to know who made merdocs av or if some one can help me get that comic effect.
Link to his cable vs sent av is Here!
Here is the comic book effect used in the av. For the animation part, I would think that the easiest way would be to “cheat creativity” and
[]Download the av to your pc[]Open it in photoshop
Imitate effects/animations
:bgrin:
